The 2026 Free Agency Thread

Just a quick point, and maybe it's irrelevant, but I listen to Keim also, because while I don't think he gets a lot of scoops, I do think he puts things together really well, and is well informed. Maybe it's a distinction without a difference. I like Keim.

I think the main point about Keim, in the debate you and I have had over the years, really comes down to this:

Keim is not trying to be Schefter. He is not focused on being first with every story. A good example was the Ben Johnson situation. When it started to look like those interviews were not going well, or that it probably was not going to happen, Keim began talking about that on his podcast. Then a couple of days later, Schefter reported it more directly.

That, to me, is Keim in a nutshell. Like I have mentioned before, I was on a Zoom with him years ago when he was doing one for Twitter followers, and he was asked about this exact subject. His explanation was that protecting sources matters more to him than being first. He said he cares more about being informed and not being wrong than about winning the race to break news.

He also said that when he mentions certain names in podcasts or articles, there is usually a reason for it, even if he is not stating it outright. He used Antonio Gibson as an example. His point was that he heard the team really liked him, he was not going to spell that out in a way that could expose sources or interfere with the team’s plans. Instead, he would mention the type of player they were looking at and reference names that fit and throw Gibson's name out in that context.

That is why I tend to take some of his name-drops seriously. For someone like me who follows free agency and the draft very closely, too many of those mentions have lined up with what later came out for me to view it as some sort of educated random guessing. Not every time, of course, but often enough that I think there is usually something behind it. And honestly, Sheehan has not been bad on that front either in the small rare doses he does it. For example, when both he and Keim mentioned interest in Fields before that draft, it later came out that there really was interest.

Another example was when they were looking for a quarterback in Ron’s third offseason. Wentz was not really being discussed, then Keim brought him up on a podcast, and shortly after, it happened. There have been a number of cases like that. Now, it is completely fair if you do not buy what Keim said in that Zoom and I gather that's the crux of our disagreement.

But I am going to keep throwing his stuff on here because while some might agree with you, I know there are plenty interested. So like anything people can take or leave it but I've been making posts like this long enough to know that at least some people are interested.

It's going to be very interesting to see what Philly does with their cap the next couple of years--in three years, they have 13 players on their roster roster and $295m allocated to the cap.

He’s absolutely right. Hopefully we actually build the offense!

Agree. That's what the Bears have been doing, their defense isn't hot, but they keep putting resources in helping Caleb shine-develop.

Judging by what's being heard from beat reporters and national reporters, I think you will be dissapointed.

As much as I want Peters to spend and as much as I like him as a player, I'll rip Peters big time if that's one of his big spends but I'd be more than surprised, I'd be shocked.

You can't IMO have three O lineman with close to 20 million-30 million salary, that IMO would be crazy. In a vaccum i'd love it. But alas, the cap doesn't work in a vaccum. IMO you want to spend that kind of money on an edge, CB, WR -- not a center and that goes double when you already have or about to have two of the most expensive O lineman in the league.

I think there is boderline zero shot they sign Linderbaum.
Are you including Cosmi in this, his contract is fairly reasonable especially as the cap grows.

I also think our appeal to the wider FA pool might be somewhat over estimated, Linderbaum might just be a more realistic option.

Okay, now that we're seeing some big deals getting done let's shock the world (or at least the board) and get Tunsil done!

You can do it, Peters. You can, too, Laremy!

I think people are going to be disappointed in the lack of center signing. On the commanders YouTube page, Andrew Wylie said in an interview “I’m excited for his opportunity” in regard to Allegretti. I think he’s likely our starting center going forward. We may see them bring in someone from the draft or maybe a no name from FA to compete or sit as depth. Just my opinion based on what he said.

Yep i include Cosmi. 20 million cap hit this year then its 19 in 2027 and 19 in 2028.

Tough for me to come up with a team with three 20 million plus players at that spot. If Tunsil and Linerbaum get what some expect that would mean 75 million on the o line on three players alone. That would likely mean 90 million to that unit on the aggregate. I would assume by a mile it would be the most in the league.

Keim in his podcast today flat out said they won’t pursue Linderbaum. So if they end up doing it it will be some rare in Keim’s face happening.

i get your love of the player and the thought behind it. If this were the early 90s pre free agency I’d be all in. But no way I’d pay 25 million for a center with all that this teams needs.

What else would he say? “Oh, shit! Not Allegretti! That guy can’t block my grandma with a walker!” I mean, I wouldn’t read too much into this.
