So, I hear you and generally agree, I just don’t lean too much into a “younger for the sake of getting younger” mentality. If, say, we sign Likely but he gets hurt… is Sinnott a better choice to be our starting F over Ertz?
Of course, that’s also why I mentioned Blough still giving Sinnnott/Yankoff chances (even if we do re-sign Ertz as a backup), though that should be at least partially dependent on how they look this offseason - I want them, or some other depth guy we bring in, to have that opportunity to shine as you said.

With that said, I’d still much prefer a younger guy with upside fill that role. I’m just saying if we don’t land a guy like that (or we do but they get hurt or struggle throughout the offseason), Ertz might not be a bad insurance policy.

I believe there are a number of FA TE's that can give us more opportunity than the going on 36 year old TE coming off a December ACL whose speed had noticeably diminished

“Overspending” is a tricky term given it’s sort of the nature of FA. And, not that overspending should be the goal, but I sure hope they’re willing to open the checkbook (including “overspending”) for a quality TE. IMO, we have to give our young QB a viable pass-catching TE. We can mitigate the problem with a quality, pass-catching back and better receivers, but we can’t just roll w/ Bates/Sinnott/Yankoff.

Yeah they better have a TE plan in place, a FA target is perfect as there are numerous ones that should fit the bill,

We can go a little cheap and still have major upgrades. That does not however mean dumpster diving for players, more like the under or misused second tier players

Fant and Dulcich would be big boosts to the TE room for relative peanuts. I don’t know that Likely and Okonkwo are so much better than those guys

I was surprised when they fired Bobby Johnson. I predicted they would cut Biadasz as the extension of the coach on the field. They were likely not happy with his line calls and calling protections

I imagine they want more of a road grader in the run game at center? Biadasz wasn’t a liability, but he wasn’t pushing any piles, either. The interior run blocking was not a plus.

I wonder if this is also a good time to start over at center because all the protection calls and such are changing anyways with the new offense. So his experience the last two years with Kliff was no longer a factor.

I think it’s more the football IQ piece of it. This line struggled quite a but vs upper echelon defensive teams like the Seahawks, Vikes and Packers

I didn't realize he was an issue in that regard.

Well crap. Our OL is now a Need unless Wylie starts at LG and they think Allegretti has better football IQ.

Do they think he contributed to the run game being so inconsistent?
