The whole concept feels a little whacky to me, and I'm not even convinced they truly believe in it themselves. The whole "WR by committee" narrative seemed to surface only after they failed to land Doubs and Pierce. That's when Quinn really started talking it up.

And frankly, this isn't a front office that has exactly earned the benefit of the doubt when it comes to putting weapons around Jayden. So when they pivot to an approach that looks unambitious on the surface, I'm not going to assume it's secretly brilliant. Until they actually show me they know what they're doing at that position, I'm going to judge it for what it appears to be: pretty meh.

My gut is that Jayden still makes lemonade out of lemons, largely because his legs give him an escape hatch when nobody gets open. He's special enough to keep the offense functional—and probably good—even when the supporting cast isn't.

But Peters isn't an idiot. I think he knows this is unfinished business. My guess is they finally make a serious move at WR next offseason and get it done.

Agree I used to think its slam dunk he's signed, now I don't purely because of his odd meltdowns on social media -- he's basically telegraphing he is a bit of a nutcase and going after the Jayden feels like the obvious kicker. Diggs please.
 
I hope with all of this talk about the team was interested in Aiyuk, it means this

A. they want to add to the WR spot.
B. They will sign someone.

The vibe I got from those covering the team was that Aiyuk was much more in play than Diggs. If that was the case, hopefully all of that changed now, I presume it has to and Diggs is in serious consideration. Heck even if Aiyuk's personality was fine, I'd still prefer Diggs. Now its an even bigger joke to compare.
 
Shit talking the 49ers where it was unclear all that had happened behind the scenes.... forgiveable in my eyes because we were left guessing how poorly Aiyuk had been treated.

Shit talking your best friend... publicly....because he didn't go after a drunk fan, ON VIDEO, for the world to see... that's some seriously warped thinking.

My real dilemma here is that if I concede that Aiyuk is crazy, it feels like I'm agreeing with Kyle... which makes me a little nauseous...

I was one of the biggest supporters of the signing. As I had said if you limit yourself to high character guys you get beat by AJ Brown. Wide receivers in particular tend to be this way and I figured all this noise would stop and be forgotten when he goes for 8/93/TD. I figured it was all just a ploy to get SF to move.

But now that he has attacked our QB this is no longer San Francisco's problem. It is a problem here for a team that IMO was going to sign Brandon Aiyuk.

He may be old in NFL WR circles, but he had 85 receptions for just over 1k yards last year. That would have been tops on this team by a good bit. In fact, 85 receptions is more than Terry had in 2024 and more than Terry has has in any season of his career exception 2020 where he had 87. My point is, he was still getting it done last year, so even if he is old, he would be a plus to this receiving corps.

Now, the off field stuff, that’s a different story. If Peters and Co. don’t want to the drama he brings in, then I’m perfectly fine with them not signing him.
 
I have been leery of the signing from the onset not because of the craziness, but because of the layoff. All the enthusiasm and seeming inevitability wore me down, but even then I argued no more than a one year deal because you can't know what you're buying.

This may go down as the shortest tenure in Redskins' history. If, we decide to pass, Lynch and Shanahan may have wound up doing us a favor because if he had been a June 1st cut I am almost certain he'd be on this team right now. I still think there's a not insubstantial chance we sign him if he's ever released just because I think Peters held on so long his options have all but disappeared. Still, I reluctantly agreed to hop on the bandwagon and am fully okay with stepping off.

Boy has Aiyuk misplayed his hand and misjudged his worth.

Fair, but on the other hand, think of the QBs that Terry had to survive before Daniels rookie year. Was the best of them Heinicke?
 
Count me as someone who initially thought Aiyuk was just playing games with the 49ers. Sure, he was being intentionally outrageous and inflammatory, but it looked like a somewhat (mis)calculated means to an end.

But this latest stunt calling out Jayden completely changes things...and they've unfollowed each other on socials, so this seems like an actual rift more so than just buddies talking trash.

I think that leaves us with two options...

Either he’s so unstable right now that he doesn't realize or care that he's shooting himself in the foot by attacking the one guy who would vouch for him to our front office.

Or, the entire thing was contrived from day one, and he never actually cared about playing for WAS. He just saw his relationship with Jayden + the team need at WR as something he could exploit for his contract situation. While that might not be "crazy," it is incredibly dirty business.

Either way, the vibe has totally soured. Dude either completely lacks impulse control, or he used his friendship with our franchise quarterback for contract leverage without ever really wanting to be here.

Washington could use more help at receiver opposite Terry McLaurin -- and that might be in the form of the 49ers' Brandon Aiyuk. Even if he is added, there will be questions about him. However, the offensive system -- with a wider variety of routes and using more two tight end sets -- will help regardless. And there will be questions about the secondary. But perhaps the biggest concern is that with a new system on both sides of the ball -- and first-time coordinators -- how quickly can they play at a level needed coming off a 5-12 season? Eagles

The Eagles' overhaul on offense will certainly add some much-needed flavor and should lead to more receivers being schemed open and more lanes for Barkley to barrel through over time. There could also be some significant growing pains, seeing as it can take players a full season to acclimate to a new system. Can the defense carry the day as the offense acclimates? The Cowboys' offense looks ready to roll and, as the Eagles know, their new defensive coordinator, Parker, has a chance to be special. The Cowboys' defense has some adapting to do of its own, but this feels like a season where Philly could take a step back while Dallas hits its stride. -- McManus

Since the Eagles put to rest the fact that no team had repeated as division winner since 2003-04 last season, Philadelphia is the pick to win the NFC East this year, too. Yes, there is change with the Eagles -- no Brown, another new offensive coordinator -- but this is a group that knows how to win. The closest challenger will once again be the Cowboys. Washington and the Giants are improved but also are working in key changes in coaching and personnel. -- Archer

The Cowboys? It's weird to even say that considering how putrid their defense was last year. But Dallas has an explosive offense and a new defensive coordinator who, if he's even competent, should be able to get something out of this Cowboys defense. He actually has some pieces to work with up front, too. Really, there is probably a realistic path for all four teams to win the NFC East this season. It's a sneaky tough division for 2026. -- Raanan

Commanders

The division will be a much tighter race than perhaps many anticipate. At this point you'd still have to go with the Eagles simply because they've been the class of the division. But they have their own questions and always seem on the verge of collapse (only to always recover). But their roster is so well constructed that, entering camp, you'd have to say them. We also know last season was the first repeat winner since 2004 (when the Eagles won four in a row). However, Washington will be improved and a threat if Daniels stays healthy. Dallas has an explosive offense, so if its defense improves, then the Cowboys can dethrone the Eagles. The Giants have made lots of changes, but they have holes and more questions than the other three teams -- and are perhaps a year away from taking a big step. -- Keim

Not that it makes any practical difference, but I think people are misreading this quote. Aiyuk said, “Five [Jayden] gonna text me talking about ‘you’re on my team now, you follow my rules.’ [pause] Boy, I’m a grown ass man. . .” So it seems Aiyuk was attributing the “my team my rules” line to Jayden and the rest was his reaction to someone trying to rein him in like that.

The probable sequence of events: Aiyuk took offense to Jayden laughing at that fan, Jayden reached out as a friend and future teammate to recommend he cool it, and BA flipped.

Scot McCloughan on Sheehan, I know some don't care for him, that's cool but i like him.

A. thinks this team will be good next season as long as Jayden is healthy but also thinks its a stacked division

B. Likes Quinn a lot, as a dude and coach. Likes Peters as a dude, he's known him over the years, but doesn't vouch for him one way or another as an evaluator

C. Loves the Styles pick, thinks it was a no brainer

D. Says Aiyuk's character issues were evident in college, too

No team is going to have mostly elite players, you need to have a lot of players that are simple fundamentally sound, disciplined on the field, and have the trust of their teammates that they are sticking to their assignments. How many times do we see on game film after the fact that when you have mediocre lined up next to elite, the mediocre often times gets the elite player wrongly blamed for a play breaking down because mediocre is not doing their job and elite has to then make the decision to try help AND do their job at the same time. If that happens enough, then there is a trust issue within the unit that needs to exist in order for plays to be ran efficiently.

Having solid contributors around the elite players allows the elite players to go out and show why they are elite.
