The 2026 Free Agency Thread

I'm more surprised that they kept Johnson than what they did with Hartman. Honestly, Johnson looked pretty bad in the preseason. With his experience advantage, he shouldn't have been throwing all those picks against vanilla defenses even if our wide receivers were poor. I imagined we would keep two QBs on the active roster and then either Johnson or Hartman on the practice squad. Frankly, I didn't fear any team poaching either QB and if they did I figured we could find some all but retired vet or raw college QB who could be just as bad

I somewhat disagree because Hartman lacks the physical tools to ever develop into anything more than a VERY low-end backup. He isn't fast enough to scare anybody with his legs, and doesn't have even average NFL arm talent.

He's essentially Taylor Heinicke with less moxy and better hair. And Heinicke sucked when he wasn't getting lucky.

Was he worth a flier on for one year as a PS guy? Sure. A second year? eh?? Probably not.

If it were me, and we're taking a flier on a 3rd string/PS/developmental guy, I want somebody with a lot of raw talent, that for whatever reason just hasn't put it all together. The thought being, if you give him NFL coaching, you can improve technique and other skills to develop the guy into a good option.

Hartman is so many pegs below Heinicke, IMO. Maybe same arm. But Heinicke was way more mobile, and the moxie isn’t a small thing. Taylor was clutch in some big moments. Heinicke as QB3 would be stellar/ he should just never have been WB1.

I totally agree with QB3 being the perfect spot for a guy with raw talent. A guy like Joe Milton III in my mind is the ideal 3rd string. Huge arm. Wheels. Can’t read a defense and isn’t as accurate. So you let him sit and develop. And I’m not saying Milton will ever develop. I’m just saying, I’d like a guy with physical tools that hasn’t put it all together.

Regarding FA 2026, I think this is the year we go all in. We don’t have a 2nd rounder. We won’t have as bad a schedule next year. It’s our last cheap year with Jayden. I just hope there are some guys available that are worth it.

I really want us to make a push for Rashid Shaheed in FA. He may be the fastest receiver in the NFL and is one of the league’s best return men.

I can see him becoming a 1000 yard receiver with Jayden

There is some talk he doesn’t make it to FA; apparently there is some trade interest from the Steelers. If I were them I am not sure I would bother, but maybe my perception is wrong. I feel like they are one of the many tier twos beating tier 3s and other 2s. I think in the AFC North, you will get a great record doing that.

With the Saints cap hell situation, to your point, it would make sense to trade him and get a pick. He brings a rare skillset that can take any offense to the next level

We can’t afford Terry, a Deebo extension, and more money at WR probably.

A guy a lot of people wanted here just retired on the Eagles mid season. I guess that locker room isn’t a great time right now

I mean, it can’t be long before Garrett Wilson is demanding a trade, can it?

Yeah, I really don’t want to hear about discontentment from the guys who accepted big checks from bad franchises they could have eventually gotten away from. Myles Garrett is another one. Said yesterday after the game “it must be nice” to pass rush with a lead. Buddy, you were almost out, and then you folded. You knew what you were signing up for and took the huge check. You signed the deal with the devil, now be quiet about it.

There’s a lot we will need to solve in the draft and FA, especially on D. We will need at least 1 new CB, a plus EDGE rusher, at least 1 starting safety and a replacement for Wagner

Ravens just released CJGJ from their practice squad, a week after signing him, apparently due to trading for Gilman the same day as that signing, so the question is, how desperate is the situation in our secondary?

He’s a hothead who was toxic in Houston but the Philly locker room handled him. He’d easily be the best safety here.

What I am curious about is can Lattimore keep him in check in the locker room. Lattimore is no leader but maybe he was a mentor for CJGJ in NO

He's coming back from a torn ACL, and he also broke his collarbone in camp, so I'm sure there are questions about physical status and conditioning (although he apparently had a good workout for Denver today). He also has a rep for poor route running, when he remembers his routes, but he does have big hands to go with a big body at 6'2" 225. Not quick or fast, but he is big. With big hands.

One plus to signing CJGJ and/or Burks is that, same as with Drake Jackson, they'd instantly lower the average age of the oldest roster in the NFL. Well, I mean, depending on who they replaced, yeah, but the point stands: we're old.
