He played as a stand up OLB at both the Ravens and last year when he went to the Chargers. If we do play more 3 down looks he would be a stand up backer in base. Whether he stands up or puts his hand in the dirt he’s going primarily be setting an edge and rushing the passer.

Assuming it’s just a national guy referring to his previous position, not really putting any thought into whether he’ll be more of a 3-4 rush OLB or an even front rusher. Should’ve just called him an EDGE tbh it’s the reason that designation exists. But guessing he just didn’t think about it. Oweh will technically be playing both in our new scheme anyways

Though if they really wanted to screw him they could probably hold him until cutdown day. If he isn't owed any bonuses until Sept 1, they could just carry him right up until then, and then we'd basically have a Terry situation on our hands. Very much not ideal.

Part of why I'd still be trying to land Jennings if we could. Or why the odds on Tate are creeping up.

I'm honestly starting to think they are going to hold him until very late. Hopefully cooler heads prevail and they realize that this is not a good look in any way and may end the great business relationship we have had with them

What relationship do we have with them? We shipped off Brian Robinson to them, but that's about all I can remember cooperating with them on. With how much they needed depth at RB, I wouldn't place too much value on AP's past greasing the wheels. Neither team owes the other team anything. Cutting Aiyuk would be helpful to us, but the 49ers have no reason to care about helping us.

I just looked him up. He went to prison for a couple of years for gun possession and getting into trouble but he looks legit and so does his story. Mr football in Texas of all places so you know that he must have been good. Took over for Shady McCoy after he left school. Trained Trevon Diggs amongst others mentioned below. Got a full scholarship to Purdue. Here is a little more:

I’d say definitely not, but it’s an interesting suggestion. They are desperate to resolve their cap situation, and Trent had them backed into a corner wanting a contract re-do.

I'd want a lot more. That is an enormous contract to swallow and like I said before I think AIyuk's bust potential may be higher than his boom potential. Right now, I almost look at him as Noah Brown plus baggage.

There's no way we should give up a draft pick to get him - and that's why I keep saying it's not a guarantee he ends up in Washington. SF wants him gone and if they find someone stupid enough to give up a draft pick for him, they'll probably work out the contract stuff one way or the other.

It's a risk no doubt. But it's also clear that his beef was with the Niners. He also realizes this is his mulligan, if he pulls this crap again he will effectively be Antonio Brown with few if any options moving forward. He's not crazy enough not to understand this.

I expect him to be cleared medically and to play very well for us.

I actually am aware of him. He is a well known coach.

The video didn’t do anyone any favors.

As a coach, I think some things should be kept private. This is one. He didn’t show off any of his coaching ability and Bill didn’t look great in the drills. This is one that should have stayed in the vault.

I completely agree.

Something else which Galdi brought up, and I kindof knew this but it wasn't really forefront of my mind: the last time Aiyuk played in an NFL game was October 2024, when he got injured. He's also 28.

That's a long long time time ago. (in a galaxy far, far away?)

There is no way we know his health status at this point. He SHOULD be as completely recovered as he can be at this point, given he hasn't played in a year and a half and would have had the ability to just rehab. But we don't know what that looks like. Is he diminished? How much? In what way? Burst? Cutting? Top End speed? Are they the same as they were? No idea.

But we don't know that. We don't know his mental state, because he's been absolutely weird the last couple of years.

Is Aiyuk now what he was before he was injured? There's literally no way to know.

Which is why I (and many, many, many) others have said he's essentially just gravy. He can't be trusted to be an answer. Maybe he IS the answer. If he returns to form, maybe he is the guy. But you just can't bet on that.

I really thought Jennings had been signed. Based on my google search this morning, he hasn't been. I think they need to go out and do that. Apparently he was difficult going into 2025, and the 49ers added $3m of incentives to his deal. So maybe he is a difficult guy to deal with, similar to Terry. And maybe that's why he remains unsigned.

I'm getting nervous we're not going to get Tate in the draft. Going into this year with McCLaurin + Burks + DBrown + Jefferson + McCaffery + Lane scares the poop out of me. As I said before, I don't even consider Aiyuk in the conversation, if he's here, fine, it doesn't change my opinion.

If they added Tate to the group, that would make me feel A LOT better. But that's far from a guarantee.

At least if they signed Jennings, the WR2 position is filled by SOMEBODY at least temporarily.

If we were going to get one, it probably would've been better to package Payne and/or some other players although we aren't exactly stocked with trade bait that would tempt teams either.

I think they would be foolish not to bring Deebo back. He's not the solution but he can help bridge the gap until we settle the position in the draft. I don't think we get Jennings but would love to be wrong.

Last year's FA WR group was ultra weak as well.

Jennings would put the team in a great spot moving towards the draft. Without him (or a Doubs/Pierce) we are in an uncomfortable spot of needing a WR2 on more than a one year contract

I am a little shocked Deebo wasn't signed with either Dyami or Jefferson.
