Regarding out 7th round pick, I’m just saying, we could have used it to have Aiyuk here through the entire offseason, if he is our plan as the primary outside receiver across from McLaurin

Nobody (including the Commanders) wants to trade for Aiyuk because they don’t want to inherit his current contract. Wait till he’s cut and then he’ll come here on a much more team-friendly deal.

What if all that leaking to Keim and others about Delane was to ensure a team desperate for a corner would trade up for him and let Styles/Tate/whoever drop?

Yup. Thought about that also. Everything is possible. That's why these teams have to maneuver just like the fans. A lot of them had their heart set on Love but chances are he wasn't going to be there so you had to find other guys whom you liked.

I meant to add Randall to the Delane topic also. It was leaked how much we liked him and the team right up the street grabs him ahead of us in the same round we pick an RB. Maybe we were going to pick Randall


On the other hand, maybe we were going to pick Allen anyways but didn't think he would be there since he had a higher rated slot for most scouts. I think that we did like the duel threat that Randall posed though and he was another Clemson guy which our team is close to. Again you have to like more than one player because they may be gone

Well that is one way to look at it. The other is he was the last good one left.

I posted before our Allen pick stating I liked Gulbin a little over Parker and Coogan so I am good with him. I am just saying he was the last man standing out of a lot of good C's in this draft but who knows.

I am very happy with getting someone late that is legit for a position of need

He has an NFL skill base and body - now we see if he can pick up an NFL playbook and develop. We will see a lot of him in preseason I would think

And if he can’t, at least not to the level where you would feel comfortable with him as a #2 in 2027, then you draft another guy in the 5-7th rounds next year and keep trying until you hit on one.

I love having Mariota as the backup QB while JD is on his rookie deal. However once he’s not on a rookie deal, you need a cheaper backup QB. The best way to get to that is to draft them and develop them. Or else you’re not going to get a good player unless you pay more….

I would MUCH prefer to have a developmental QB than trade a pick for a head case WR who hasn’t played a game since late season 2024.

If Aiyuk gets here somehow, great.

But he can’t be part of the plan. And he should t be part of the plan.

as I said in another post, he’s going to be free in September. When that happens, sign him to the PS. Kick the tires. See if he’s worth a roster spot and can play. And if he can, bring him along and elevate him. If he can’t, cut him.

That’s actually the most low risk thing we could do with Aiyuk and I’m personally rooting for that option.

I am good that they drafted the Greek. He was the only QB they brought in a top 30 visits so they definitely know what they are gettting.

This should leave us with a solid QB3 then QB2 over the next four years minimally on a cap friendly contracts. Gives us consistency insurances.

No one gets it all right. But Schrager was so convinced this team was in love with Tate. And then Josh Taylor fan who got a job with some news outlet recently also goes he knows its Tate. Don't mind swings and misses but the fact that they were that definitve will be something I'll remember next time.

Mel Kipers view on the draft is about as valuable as mine. He lost his fast ball years ago - and he never had much of a fast ball to start with.

I find it difficult to hold against Schrager given that Tate went 3 picks before we picked. I'm pretty sure we wouldn't have taken Tate, but if the board played out where Reese went to AZ, Love went to Tennessee, Styles went to NYG and the Chiefs traded up for Delane - we would have.

Given that - I don't hold it against him. Mock Drafts are really, really stupid. It's extremely hard to account for trades, internal team thoughts, etc.

They're good because we can get an idea where these guys typically slot based on all sorts of inside info - but it's such an inexact science.

Can’t speak for anyone else but for me, I’ve heard it stated numerous times that the contract can be ripped up and reworked as part of the trade. So it’s not that I don’t understand it, it’s that I’m under the impression that the current contract is irrelevant. Maybe I got that wrong?

Its technically not irrelevant its just that aiyuk can tear it up and make it irrelevant if he chooses to.

Many have suggested he'd be stupid to do that and many have suggested that he'd be stupid not to because nobody is going to honor it anyway.

At this point it seems that all parties involved are being stubborn and nobody knows who's going to break first.

Should at least be entertaining if aiyuk decides to show up and try to be a distraction.

Thanks. Yes, that’s what I thought was the case… And I’m assuming that those are the only conditions under which a trade would occur. So I agree that no team would want to take on the current contract, but I don’t think that’s what’s actually on the table.
