Kinda reminds me of a more athletic version of that Chilean basketball player, Sammis Reyes who we thought was going to kill it as TE and ended up flaming out.

Neither did Jordan Mailata play football before he was drafted in the 7th. And this guy is a similar caliber special athlete. I’m not even saying we should draft him. If he goes undrafted though? I’d strongly consider signing him.

Sure - all for high ceiling no floor signings in UDFA. Gotta fill the roster anyways.

Jager Burton seems like an interesting prospect to look at rounds 5 & 6. 9.9 RAS, started 4 years at Kentucky and played for Liam Coen for a couple seasons so he has pro style WCO type experience. He floated between guard and center during his time there and settled in full time at center his senior year. Very interesting guy on paper to bring in to sit for a year to build NFL level strength and learn the pro game

The more I get involved with college coaches, high end HS prospects and some brief convos with NFL guys and listening to the media guys I respect like McShay, Schrager, etc… the more I’ve evolved into really, really appreciating experience in college.

But I’ve also come to realize that you have to be able to weigh that. A fifth year senior and a third year prospect won’t have the same experience necessarily but the junior might still be the better player…

But I think one of the biggest reasons is that you don’t have time to develop in the NFL. Guys that lack quality experience, and I think it’s safe to say ~24ish games, give or take based on position, but two seasons, can really struggle to make it in the League. There isn’t time.

I think it’s okay to take swings, but you want a majority of your roster of young players to have 24ish games experience in college.

So that’s a starting point for me. If it’s close I wouldn’t necessarily throw a guy out. But a guy with far less experience loses some standing with me unless we have a ton of time to develop them.

I have mentioned him as a good later round fit. I am not sure how much he'd need to sit if Allegretti did go down, especially when ruing the ball. . They ran a similar offense to what I believe we will be running. He is really good on the blocking on the move and on the second level. He also has a good base allowing him to handle bigger bull rushers better than some of the other C options with higher grades. He is not solid however I pass pro. That would be where he might need a little time.

I don't know if it matters here but Linderbaum is an ace at run blocking but meh as a pass blocker. Maybe they are generally fine with that out of the center position. Given he knows him so well and because they have so many Day 3 picks, I bet Liam Coen has Gladstone zeroing in on him

With so few early picks and many holes to fill, identifying players like Jager are exactly what they need for later day 3.
I expect the trade back from 71 or 147 to gain at least one more later for pick for guys like him

The Dolphins and Jaguars both have a lot of draft capital starting in the 3rd. 71 would be a good spot to trade back a bit from. Unfortunately, I have a feeling they will stick and pick and take a WR like Hurst there

That's the way some of the card readers see it.

It is so frustrating not to have a true idea or glimpse into what they want. Frustrating and yet so much better than Tugboats telegraphing

Anyone have a view on CJ Daniels WR from Miami? To my eyes he looks like a guy who could come in here and have a role immediately. But I guess I am missing something as he’s talked of as a day 3 prospect

He is a solid possession receiver that makes plays - but was a bit too quiet for me. Very consistent receiver that will be available late, but won’t wow you.

Good size, good hands, reliable receiver. Had some weird yards per route issues, which I blame on Miami’s OC / the fact he exists next to Toney. A willing blocker.

Late round flier? Sure. Relying on him to be a difference maker? No.

I've mentioned the same, I'd guess they want athletic zone run blocking centers -- also judging by Keim's tale of what he heard about what they didn't love about Biadaz, they value smart dudes who are leaders

We can't take a defensive player at #7 and then trade back from #71.

We need a wide receiver that can come in and contribute in Year 1. Guys found in Round 5, 6 and 7 are long shots and usually take years when they do come on.

Without much available on the free agent market where these guys are all over 30 or are slower possession receivers, the time to strike is in the draft.

To me I would look to move back from #7 and take a guy like Lemon and then also be able to draft help on defense at safety and corner.

The one player that really scares me though is not Love or Tate or Bain or Delane or Tyson.............it's Sonny Styles.

I think people are still underplaying the fact he doesn't have a set position to play at the NFL level and his college production last year showed 1 sack.

If he does turn out to be in ILB that's a pretty high slot to take one when looking around the league.

Most teams spend the money on the defensive tackles to anchor the run and fill in at middle linebacker with Day 2 draft picks and free agents.

While I am not sure some of these other players in this year's anticipated top 10-12 picks will be all-pros I am fairly confident that guys like Love and Tate and Bain and Downs are going to be productive NFL players who will come in and play the position they grew in during their college careers.

The last player we drafted that was transitioning to a new position, Luke McCaffrey, still is not there yet going into Year 3.

He has height, decent size, good speed, decent hands...............but he's just not there as a guy that looks comfortable at WR in the NFL like Terry did when he came in 2019 in Round 3.

Guys have to be comfortable in their own skin so to speak.

I would avoid players that may have to go on a personal journey to find out where they best fit and contribute. It's just another unknown to throw on top of the regular draft unknowns with prospects.
