The 2026 Draft Thread - Day 3

Ohio State DE Caden Curry, he's a bit undersized, with Bain like arms, but he played real well for OSU this yr.

1st team all big ten, 11 sacks, 16.5 TFL

Would be worth a look on day 3

Agree. If we don't take an Edge at 7 or 71, there are a handful of guys who would be solild options at 145.

I would be really surprised if we don't draft a safety at some point in the draft this year. At the end of the day, both Harris and Martin are not under contract after next season and Reavo, Butler and Owens are not starting caliber players.

The safe play would be taking a safety at #71. I did an analysis recently and when you combine it with the depth of this safety class, you have a really good chance of finding a Day 1 starter. Furthermore, while the modern safety is expected to do a bit of everything, it is generally easier to find a guy who can play post safety well the earlier you pick.

Now, given the depth of this safety class, I think we will see future starters come out of rounds 5-7. Happens every year anyway and some of these guys really come up in a big way (Curl, Hufanga and Lake as examples). Obviously, hit rate is going to be meaningfully lower and the guy you take is probably not going to be a defensive contributor in year 1

If it were me, given Armstrong expires after next season, if a good EDGE prospect were to fall to #71 (Moore, Jacas, Lawrence, etc) and I thought he'd be a day 1 contributor as a rotational guy, I'm taking that guy given the way EDGE salaries have exploded this season and taking my chances on safety later in the draft. If that guy is not there, I'm probably defaulting to a safety at #71

With these 2 guys, and Howell, this is turning into the Draft of the T-Rex Edge.

Lorenzo Styles Jr.? Just based on measurables and pedigree he's be worth it on Day 3

Virginia RB J’Mari Taylor…..day 3 prospect so let’s ignore any weaknesses….

Analysis

By Lance Zierlein
NFL Analyst

Overview

Despite lacking ideal size, Taylor is a three-down back with proven production. He runs with compact power and elite balance. He’s excellent on short-yardage carries, scoring tough touchdowns and gaining more than is blocked. He “fields his position” with solid vision and open-field burst, but when defenses slow his feet, they slow his processing. His lateral elusiveness is average in the hole and after catches underneath. His willingness and talent on third downs should create an opportunity as a complementary "thunder" back capable of handling a three-down backup role.

Strengths

  • Logged 418 carries for 2,208 yards and 29 TDs since start of 2024 season.
  • Presses the line deep to coax linebackers into traffic.
  • Sustains top speed to run away and hide in the open field.
  • Delivers right shoulder like a battering ram to thwart tacklers.
  • Sniffs out creases to punch through near the end zone.
  • Can line up in the slot or out wide to mismatch linebackers.
  • Squares and anchors versus blitzers and mirrors post-contact

"Receiver Eric Rivers, who timed 4.35 seconds in the 40 at the combine, sat on that mark and, more importantly, practiced to that speed during drills. Teams complimented Rivers for his speed, explosion, and the fact that he caught everything during pro day. They also commented that Rivers has really helped himself in the predraft process. He met with the Washington Commanders, Atlanta Falcons, New Orleans Saints, and Jacksonville Jaguars over the past two days."

A late round gem on Day 3 at slot TE. Meet Jaren Kanak from OU.

Did Allen have a medical issue that I didn't hear about? I was not a fan of his but he was expected to be a first rounder. Now he is in the day three thread with no testing numbers

I’ll admit I put that tweet about him in this thread just to be cheeky. Total lack of measurables may turn him into a day 3 pick in an extreme case if teams have lots of questions that go unanswered in visits, but who knows.

Jager Burton sure has some good numbers for a center. 6’4”, 312 pounds, 32.5 inch arms, big hands, 4.94 40. I don’t know if he’ll still be around at 147…

What’s the point when you can go find a Jacob Martin or AJ Epenesa in FA for $5M as a solid rotational backup?

I’d punt on EDGEs if we don’t grab one at 7 or 71. Just a very low hit rate for a Day 3 pick to become a starter, never mind an impact starter.

I’d use the Day 3 picks on TE/C/S, deep non premium positions in this class that may realistically unearth potential starters.

I get your point but this is an exceptionally strong and deep Edge class.

That said TE, IOL, and S are appealing. There has been decent hit rates on DT and LBs as well on day 3. It will be interesting to see how our young LB's are viewed by Jones.

On Day 3 I'm BPA even moreso than in the 1st 2 days.

To DWinzit's point, if Edge is as deep as they say, there could be some sleepers (like Curry) who could be options.

Curry comapres favorably to former OSU DE Jack Sawyer who went in R4 last yr and played in all 17 games with Pittsburgh.

That said, if there is a higher ranked player at a different spot I'm good with following the board
