I am really surprised that Peters' calculus was that with this many holes we were going to be outbidding the Raiders and others that were basically starting over from scratch and could spend ANYTHING on these early signings.

Center is not the premium position on the OL and I would not want to be paying a center more than my left tackle.

If I am then I am probably not getting very good pass protection on the outside.
 
Lots of kickers taken from Rounds 5-7 jumping around training camps in the NFL each year.

The hit rate on kickers is probably lower than quarterbacks :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

You sound like you just want to address the issue through the draft by any means and I feel like that's how you start reaching for guys you know aren't that good just for a position of need, which is only setting yourself up for failureI.

I didn't list our only positions of need. That's how you took it. Everyone else has seen my stance on this from the jump. We already have Luke, Lane, Dyami, Burks, etc. If they don't have the potential to be any better than them then I don't want them

I went with what you said.

Never have I said pass on better talent for a receiver.

You listed positions you believe can be the BPA, you are now saying you don’t think the receivers are good enough. That’s fair. I can’t agree, but opinions are opinions.

I think the issue is you’re higher on what we have than I am. I think several receivers currently available are day one better than McCaffrey and Lane. And maybe Burks. And possibly even Dyami and Jefferson.

Will they be on the board at 71?

No idea.

There are a few corners, centers, guards, DTs, edges, linebackers, safeties and tight ends I like, too. Even a few quarterbacks.

Not necessarily for 71. But there’s a lot of talent left. And still a ton of starting potential out there.

We’ll see how things play out. I’ll probably post my thoughts in the thread closer to our pick.

Agree. I don't know how based on what they have produced to date on offense that McCaffrey or Lane at this time can be counted on to be regular contributing receivers in this offense.

George Allen would be proud that we have good kick and punt returners in our receivers group but in today's game we need more than that.
 
For what it's worth, the Athletic has us taking Stribling in their Day 2 Mock.

On one hand, a 3rd rounder is more likely depth this year and we need depth at corner more than depth at receiver.

On the other hand, I’m recalling Jeremy Green’s opinion that the receiver class is insanely deep, whereas corner falls off a cliff in the 2nd.

On the third hand, Luke and Jaylin were developmental types, and there might be more polished guys available in the 3rd. If Peters sticks to his high RAS theme though, you’d imagine it’s more likely to be a guy that needs work (again).

If I had to guess, just based off meetings and such - they hope Stribling, Hurst or Brazzell are there (but they’re not), and 71 goes toward either corner (Stukes, Scott, Everett, Igbinosun?) or safety (Wheatley, Kilgore?). Wildcards - TE (Raridon) or IOL (Dunker?).

Jake Moody was drafted in the third round!

Obviously he wasn’t worth the pick, but I like the idea of riding with him for a while, he could have a good long career ahead of him yet.

I only included guys I thought might be available and reasonably expected to get drafted in the neighborhood of 71 ... AND who they've reportedly met with / talked to at least once, didn't see anything about Commanders contact with him.

Edit: FWIW, neither he nor Chris Brazzell, who I also looked at but expect to be gone by the end of the 2nd, have RAS scores available, although I have seen an unofficial 9.90 estimate for Brazzell.

Chances are they will either select a non WR or trade back due to the board not falling well for them.

There are only a handful of receivers that could fall that are worthy of 71.

After 71, what's the chances of getting one that is ahead of Lane, Luke, Burks or any of the others on the roster?

No one has any idea until we get closer. The board can always do something crazy.

True. He needs to be prepared for other means to get a receiver though
 
I really don't want Ted Hurst--questionable hands. We already have a Chris Moore at home.
