The 2026 Draft Thread - Day 2

In isolation I have no issue with taking a center at #71 if he's the best center prospect.

At the same time I will be a bit annoyed at Peters and Quinn over the cutting of Biadasz.

We went through the 2025 draft and free agency period and REFUSED to utilize resources on an EDGE of any real quality despite the obvious need.

Now, we can't go with Biadasz for one more season of his contract and THEN look for a replacement in 2027?

Trying to rebuild this team in 2026 and only having 6 picks means that cutting guys who can play but may not be the 100% ideal candidate for the HC or OC often means lumping it for one year to address more critical needs.

I like Sam Hecht more as was going to mention him earlier. There are many players like this that fit well. I can see them hope to trade back a little unless a particular WR is there.

I just think, despite this being a forum where we discuss things…

We’re all just blindly throwing names out there right now and we don’t pick for well over a full round.
 
By the way, there is a non zero chance Denzel Boston winds up a Giant. Again, they have to draft someone. But that would be a hell of a pickup.

Issue I have with taking a center at 71 is whether they are open to starting a rookie. Taking a guy to sit him for a year is a waste of a good resource. Its why I’ve been thinking more about someone like Jager Burton in the 5th
 
Giants, Dallas and Philly have all done well in the draft so far.

Of all the picks made in Round 1 of the NFC East I think Styles is the most feast or famine candidate.

Most of the other picks seem to me like more of a sure thing in terms of coming in and contributing right away.

But he does have the most upside relatively speaking and Peters evidently likes playing the high wire act with combine/workout freaks.

They swing big on the Linderbaum but they must have accounted for the great depth of this 2026 class.

Cole Cublic, an SEC and draft analyst, was on Sheehan. He sees at least 7 potential starting centers from this group. There’s just no bigtime standout

I totally see this. The only bugger to it could be if they are sold on one of them as being the teams starter this season. Their OL coaches had access to Hecht and Slaughter at the Senior Bowl where they were Hechts coach and Slaughter was across the field from them. Both received extremely high accolades for the whole week. This is the only reason why I could see the 3rd as a landing spot for a C. Otherwise the 5th is perfect with Allegretti starting
 
I think Reese is the biggest question mark for sure. Styles has the highest ceiling, Downs has the highest floor. Crazy all 3 ended up in the NFC East.

I think Reese was drafted by Harbaugh to play EDGE as he is a bit stronger than his size profile indicates.

If you are a guy that the front office projects to being a 10 sack guy in the NFL that is going to take first place ahead of an inside linebacker.

Inside linebacker is not a premium position as it was in the 1980's and 1990's.

Occasionally you come up with a Ray Lewis or Bobby Wagner that early in his career makes an immediate impact and sets the tone for developing a top defense.

But in many cases ILBs don't receive second contracts.

Even guys like Roquan Smith, who was a pro bowler, got traded by Chicago ahead of their fifth year option.

I also think he can be a solid starter at center. He was surprisingly good in 2024 at guard for the first half before he faded down the stretch.

He very much reminds me of Wes Schweitzer who I thought played center well for us when he was called into duty
 
So many good players in that group. 25-65 was/is the favorite/strongest part of the draft for me.
I am a big fan of Jones and Scott. Both fit nicely
 
It's funny. From the early reports I heard the Giants want to position switch both of their first rounders. Reese they want to play at mike and the tackle they want to move to guard.
 
I don't know about the former but I saw where the draftniks were indicating that the OL the Giants took is a guard not a tackle and that's not a value pick IMO at that point of the draft.
 
Reese was a question mark on where he'd be best at. They set a plan for him before drafting him. Makes sense and they can move him around some. Not sure he survives as an Edge

Harbaugh has said Reese is going to be an off ball LB.

While I don’t love the Styles pick due to the positional value, I think his floor is high. The issue is he needs to become a HoF level linebacker to justify the selection.

If we wanted the tier below, we could’ve hustled signed Devin Lloyd for $6M more a year than what we’ll be paying Styles
