The 2026 Draft Thread - 1st Round - 7th overall

Same coach on hand size, “I’m not even going to comment on that, this isn’t a dick measuring contest.”

That’s a good thing. Also a good thing that if it were that this guy is not an edge.

Pocket depth and set on the DL. The goa is a clear pockets some use the umbrella, some set the width with guards and depth with tackles.

They are going to change the way Campbell sets technically and spatially to help him.

I mean, what else are they gonna say? Sorry we picked a total bum at 4?

Coaching is a much different skill set than scouting and player selection, for very good and important reasons. I take all their comments on that sort of things with a massive grain of salt.

You can. That’s your prerogative.

I do not. This wasn’t a media session. These guys are very candid. As are all of us. But you’re pretty against anything and everything I post so I can’t say I’m shocked 😆

Short or tall height wise. Long arms or short arms. Big hands or small hands. Good athlete or not a good athlete (this part is unknown but there are some concerns).

To me each item isolated isn't the be all and end all. But all of them? That's why if Bain doesn't test well, assuming he tests in his proday, it brings me back to the Ryan Anderson draft.

I wish I could find the article that Laconfora wrote at the time, it was full of quotes from college coaches among others about who gives a crap about Ryan Anderson's measurables, he's a football player, the tone setter of that defense, a baller.

Now Bain was a better college player than Anderson so its not apples to apples completely. But in short, if Bain has a meh proday than to me there are too many red flags.

Ledyard took some heat on twitter at the time saying Anderson is the outlier on so many things how can it not work against him? lol, he got a lot of hate for it including from Ryan himself.

I simply don't know about Bain. You are sold on him and that's cool. I just don't know but I'd feel better if he shows something in his proday.

I’m not sold. I believe in his production and more importantly the way he came about it.

But I’m not sold on any rookie. Too much there.

I guess im sold that Bain will be, at minimum, a good football player. So to some extent you’re absolutely right.

I’m not sold he’ll be better than Styles, Tate, Downs, Love, Reese.

But ya, I guess to some extent you’re right

Cool. And don't get me wrong, I like your enthusiasm for him, because if they take him I feel better about it that some who I like their takes believe in the player.

Even though I push back some, I remain neutral on Bain, not really negative.

I am not like the dude here who trashes Tate -- and that's fine too -- to each their own. But I am feisty about Tate because I think he's a good player and haven't seen anything compelling on the other side of the argument.

But as for Bain, there is plenty compelling that pushes back on my concerns. So I remain on the fence.

I think you and I are similar with Tate and Bain.

I think I’m higher on Tate than you are Bain but it’s not by a landslide.

I am mostly neutral on Tate but more positive than neutral.

So I get that.

LOL not true, although I can see how it’d come across that way. I’ve always enjoyed your posts and write ups. I learn a lot from your X’s O’s type discussion. It’s not my strength as a hardcore football fan. Team building and contract type stuff is more what makes sense to me in a very amateur way. We seem to be on opposite sides of the fence on a lot of that stuff, but doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy your viewpoint. I’m even looking forward to your developing aneurysm as *cough cough* remains unsigned for awhile longer.

I’m sure they were being candid and believe what they’re saying. Their expertise is in other areas in my view. Think what makes coaches great is their ability to get the most out of a player, regardless of what skills they have. Maximize the talent and put them in position to succeed. And GMs can consider things like arm length and Spark score and all that to choose the best talent.

I was REALLY trying to contain myself on the 3/4 of an inch comment, and all the small hand size stuff.

Too easy a setup. But now that you got an actual quote about this not being a dick measuring contest, I think I can just move on without the junior high humor.

Oh, Ser Arlan of Pennytree.

No Tight End would have been safe....

EDIT: KDawg I failed at moving on without the Junior High Humor. Sigh.

It’s most interesting because we let our guard down and just talk at these things. There are SO many things said that I would never repeat to anyone. But you get a feel for a lot of stuff in this business just from these convos.

They don’t typically pull punches.

But the Campbell quote guys are… in their realm of expertise.

There was more to it. Talking about set length and depth and how they’d like Campbell to work. But not once was it mentioned he had tiny t-Rex arms.

Honestly no coaches believe in that stuff. The prevailing point of view is that the longer you go defying the odds, the more unlikely it is that those things are an actual issue for you.

Of course, the caveat is that if you survive SOLELY off of traits and have bad technique, you’re going to be in trouble.

That’s kinda my point though. Of course it wasn’t mentioned because it goes against their core beliefs as coaches: He has great skill, I can fix him.

Where as I see stumpy dumpy guy that’s been exposed at the highest level of play because he’s just not equipped for it.

Maybe the Jets can draft Bain and then we’ll get treated to a hilarious T-Rex fight twice a year. Those would be fun reps.

I think Warren is a freak! I think he goes early to mid 2nd. Love to have him in Washington but we don't have a 2nd round pick. Hoping for Downs at #7.
I've seen a few recent mocks that have him going mid-late R1

Hopefully we can fill our needs in FA which allows us to go BPA, there will be good players at 7, maybe up 10 which would be ideal if we could trade down a couple of spots.
I kind of think we will see what we saw back in 2024 as far as FA signings so to some degree we will be able to do what you are saying here, Canuck. AP needs to build a younger roster and hopefully he stays away from trading middle round picks away.

Hopefully, if the guys they want at 7 aren't there, they can trade down a few spots and get a 2nd or a 3rd and still get a player they want as much as one of the top 10 guys. And hopefully they are right.

We need to get lucky at least once, so why not this draft? Like the opposite of the dumb ass Forbes pick.

I like Denzel Boston a lot and think if we could trade back to #15 w/TB and get their 2nd (#46) selecting Boston at #15 and then grabbing a S with #46 like Haulcy or Warren, I'd be down with it.

Somebody would have to be willing to come up.

I’m just speculating, if somebody wants to come up, it’s probably for a player we should draft.

The one which comes to mind is Love. If he falls to 7, it’s possible teams might want to come up and get him.

I’d just take him.

The scenario for teams trading up at the front of the draft is mostly for premium positions, most notably QB.

Qb 2 is most likely a late first round pick. Not 7.

So I think we’re sitting at 7 and picking somebody.

Right now, but many times the QB2 ends up going from a guy who everybody thinks is a 2nd rounder to a guy who goes top 10 in the actual draft.

Nobody thought Daniel Jones was going top 10. Nobody thought that Penix was either, but they both did.

Ty Simpson would have to have an incredible Pro Day with the slight possibility of him moving up into the top 10. It'd be hard to crack it though. He's projected to go in the late first/early second right now.
