What I never understand about these scenarios are why these guys don’t have a deal in place the second you trade for them, and the trade being accepted is contingent on that.
Are you waiting to see if he’s a fit? If so… why did we trade for a guy without knowing? I find it hard to believe due diligence wasn’t done.
It’s not just this scenario. This thing happens too often. If you can’t guarantee he’s going to be here and I am giving up assets, then I can’t trade for him. No matter how desperate.

The Giants did this with Burns (a missed opportunity, I was really disappointed we weren't more aggressive there, but different that's a different topic). I think it has more to do with Tunsil had 2 years left as opposed to one. Burns was entering his last year and got a massive deal from the GMen. Peters openly saying in the presser yesterday that Tunsil is the best LT in the game leads me to believe this will the negotiations will be short and a huge deal.
But along the topic of the draft, LG becomes a glaring need now. Paul is an awful run blocker and needs to be upgraded. I could see our 3rd rounder go to OG, if not a FA. Unless they still think Coleman is a guard.
Along those lines, I like to look at later round sleepers, and I guy I really like at guard is Keylan Rutledge. Might need a little refinement in his pass pro, but is a big, strong, athletic mauler, that can be overpowering in run assignments. I’ve seen him anywhere from late 2nd to 5th round. Think he is a decade long solid to stud guard in the league.
Guys like this always feel like they rise out of our reach as the process goes along and the media catches up

It would be far worse.
Losing a guy to free agency and then not having your high 2nd and 4th round picks because of a player who is currently on another roster would be criminal negligence.
Luckily as has been stated we dont have to worry about that scenario because he's still under contract.

We have the money to pay Tunsil largely out of cutting Lattimore in the offseason and moving Payne.
Lattimore hasn't contributed much here and Payne is one of the most overpaid defensive linemen in the league, something that Peters and Quinn inherited from the previous regime making one last poor decision before they were sent packing.

We have him for the next 2 years regardless. He is under contract for 26 and the franchise tag could be used for 27. Not great. But it is possible. Also Tunsil will be pushing 34 at that point.

It's funny how we all talk about the fact that he is under contract for 26 so we can count on him, that is of course unless he goes with the same thought process that Terry went with this past off season.

I really don't see how paying Tunsil is an issue for the organization. If it is then you have to look at the owner and ask what his commitment level is.
Washington has underspent the cap significantly the past 2 years and we have signed NO ONE the past 12 months to an extension with any real financial bite.
I was always in favor of eating up early years cap monies to secure higher profile free agents rather than trading high draft picks for players.
We didn't go that way and that's OK IF Peters and the front office make it work now.

Tunsil has a body of work in the NFL where he is not going to play out a one year deal with no security.
Trent Williams didn't with the 49ers. Lane Johnson didn't with the Eagles.
Tunsil has already shown himself to be a player a couple of level higher than Terry McLaurin.
If I am the owner, I pay him now. I really don't see why this is an issue.

They should have held Terry to his contract last offseason. How did extending a 30 plus WR work out for us this season?

Oh I'm with you as far as paying Tunsil. I think he has proven he is a good asset to have, however after the team gave into Terry and extended him I feel they have set themselves up for this to happen again in the future.

McLaurin is a different player. He is not a franchise player at WR. He is no Jefferson or Lamb or Nakua.
Tunsil is legitimately a top 3-5 player at his position and we traded high picks to get him. So, in that regard our investment is already that much larger in what I think we can all recognize is a better player.
I would have traded McLaurin, good vibes from 2024 be damned.
Again, though, just like with Hartman the team was trying to keep Daniels with those he was familiar with.
But I don't see the best coaches in the NFL do that IF the player is not worth the investment.
McVay didn't keep Cooper Kupp. Shanahan has moved on from some pro bowl caliber players in San Francisco.
Reid traded Hill right after they won a Super Bowl and after he had been Mahomes primary WR his first 2 years in the NFL.

Agree. Not saying we shouldnt sign Tunsil. We should. Just saying we have his rights for at least 2 years regardless.
