The 2026 Draft Thread - 1st Round - 7th overall

I don't think our front office talks to the media about anything they are going to do, with one exception: I think they very purposely put out information on the Terry negotiation so they could control the narrative a little and all the information wasn't put out there by Terry's dumbass agent. But apart from that, I just don't believe they tell anybody anything. I could be wrong. That's the basis of my skepticism for any type of a read or definitive take from anybody, including Schefter, who gets more information than anybody.

It’s all good, and thanks for the compliment. This is just one of those areas where I think we tend to talk past each other a little.

My work is very press-centered. I was even an assistant press secretary at one point. And, ironically, I have my own frustrations with the media too — there have definitely been times when they have made life difficult for me and for my clients.

That said, there are absolutely ways for reporters to get accurate information even when the main person at the center of the story is not speaking directly to the press. In fact, the main source usually is not the one talking. More often, it is the people around them. My clients rarely speak directly to the media, but they speak to other people, including me, and through those conversations reporters can often get a very good sense of what the client is thinking without ever talking to the client directly.

You generally seem to agree with that point when we talk about it in the abstract. But then when a specific situation comes up, you go back to the position that if the main source is not talking to the media, then there is no way for reporters to know anything. From my experience, that is just not how it works. I know there are other ways because I have had to operate in that world myself, and I have seen it play out plenty of times. And like you, I have followed Keim forever. Years ago, I was even on a Zoom where Keim explained this exact dynamic to fans, and it was exactly what I have been describing.

So I will let it go the next time it comes up. But that is really the rub for me in these debates. It is not about whether you like Keim or whether I do. It is about a very basic media reality that I deal with all the time. In the middle of these debates, it sometimes feels like you are implying that this is not how things work, when I know from direct experience that it very much is. That is why I can sound sensitive about it.

But no hard feelings at all, and sorry if I come off snippy sometimes. It is all in good spirits.

Tate/Downs
Love
Styles/Delane

I'm weary of the players who see a jump after combine/pro days

Tape doesn't lie
Same players for me - way different order.

For talent:
Love
Delane
Styles
Downs
Tate

For draft preference:
Love
Tate
Delane/Styles
Downs

Well if nothing else I think day one of the draft will be a very good indicator of what we really have at GM.

Here's an ugly truth that's been brought up here recently...Front Office might really be gunshy about reaching for Needs over better talent. And then we're stuck with crap for Jayden. I only have 2 WR worth a 1st rounder, and one has large injury questionmarks. So it's only 1 guy.

It's really hard to justify taking that guy at #7 overall when interior grading might have him in the 20's in a normal draft year. Will the front office fight that struggle?
Agree, that’s the defining part of this draft for me.

Drafting for need with the #7 pick. No thanks.

If Tate is available and we pass on him I'm not going to be happy unless they take Love instead

I think I’m going to be fairly disappointed in this draft. Delane is going to be a very good corner but the 3rd best corner in the division and we’ll take a 3rd round receiver like Hurst who odds are won’t do much as a rookie

I’m really hoping for Sarratt at 71. But I agree. It’s Love, Styles and Delane for this team’s board and it’s going to wind up being Delane.

I would be disappointed with Sarratt too honestly. I want a safety/nickel but think that’s unlikely if they take Delane.

I want an impact player at 71. I think Sarratt is an immediate upgrade.

I like guys like Prysock, Igbinosun, Kilgore, etc., but I think Sarratt is being slept on.

Regardless. We need impact at 71. I’m not married to anything in particular there because I have no idea who the BPA will play out as.

But if we don’t go receiver at 7 or 71… I hope Peter’s has a plan.

Wonder if there’s a trade down at 71 that could net BTJ. I doubt it. But, I can dream.

Not to mention that if we’d drafted better, we really wouldn’t need to consider going overkill on a CB at #7 overall. Yes yes, BPA and all that. But I’m sorry, we’ve spent two 2nd round picks at CB over the last two years. We shouldn’t need to use #7 overall on another one at a streaky position just to solidify that room. You can never have enough CB’s as a rule, but this roster needs help all over and we’re using an inordinate amount of limited premium capital to try and get that room right.

And this is old business and neither here nor there, just a mental thing as a fan—but there’s also the psychic damage of the Forbes pick in 2023 lingering. We should already HAVE a 1st round starting CB on a rookie deal. So it feels even worse even though you can’t take that into consideration at all, of course.

I think AP needs to find a way to sign Jennings if we don’t take a receiver at 71

This is a big reason I am so meh about it. A 1st, 2 2nds, a 3rd and a 4th is my count since 2023. Adding another 1st to it, especially a high first, feels so bleh for a room that wouldn’t even be the best in the division

This is a huge problem. Thing is, Delane is very likely the true BPA at 7.

I’m not sure I pass on Tate if Love is gone but I think we’re going to and we’re going to take, imo, the best player on the board: Mansoor Delane.

But man, have our drafts sucked. Under two different regimes. It’s just sad.

Yeah, definite BPA probability there unless some really shocking things happen ahead of us in the order. Just such a shame that our previous picks haven’t been hitting at a rate that gives us more options. Very disappointing. The premium picks from 2024 rounds 2-3 not showing up is one thing. But to not have found any mid-late round gems yet either (beyond a serviceable 7th round RB, which if it was a pokemon card may be “uncommon” but no more valuable than that)…it’s pretty terrible. Last thing we all wanted when we hired the extremely qualified and hyped Adam Peters.

He needs to start building his resume now or we’re going to be changing course under the next “Adam Peters” type in a very short year or two.

Meh... He doesn't really do anything for me (other than probably cost way more than he's worth).

Id honestly rather take a risk on Diggs, Allen, or Hill. I understand the issues that come with Diggs and Hill... but on a one year deal, that's better than overpaying for a mediocre WR IMO

Edit: If Jennings is willing to sign a 1 yr deal, I'm much more interested... but I suspect that option isn't really on the table
