Jaire has been significantly less healthy than Lattimore, and with things that aren’t just hamstrings. He’s had real ass injuries and looks like he’s on the downslope. He played 7 games both of the last 2 years. I don’t think there’s a ton of hope for much more than a one year rennaissance.

But, your point is well taken about the contract and draft picks. I’d rather have Lattimore, but not if you throw in the cost difference and the draft picks.

But, Jaire wasn’t available during the season last year. We had a legitimate chance to make the SB and needed a CB. We were aggressive and took a shot. That’s exactly what the Eagles do. And we’ve all been wishing for that kind of GM forever.

I think this year will define the Lattimore trade. If he’s super solid this year and plays 12 or 13 games and we make the playoffs, we got some value. If not, we took a shot and missed. That happens. At least we are taking shots.

The funny thing is I didn't even intend to be critical of the trade or at least not overly critical just looking at it in hindsight and saying damn that one kind of sucked didn't it or at least so far it does.

You're right this year will tell for sure, if he stays healthy and plays at a probowl level it wont matter much what we gave up.

I just dont see how you can see the alexander deal while noting the similarities between the two players situations and not think patience would have suited us better while also noting that its ok we took a shot.

If we had given up some draft picks for alexander last year and taken on his contract it very well could have been lattimore who was released this year and signed with the ravens for peanuts.

All i was trying to suggest is that right now (especially after the alexander signing) we have a little egg on our faces for what we gave up for lattimore, hopefully the narrative changes this year.
 
It's hard not to feel critical of the trade.

Lattimore was signed presumably to get us over the hump and into the playoffs. He wasn't healthy enough to do that. He sat out almost all of the regular season games post-trade. When he came back, he was understandably rusty. Now, it's fair to say that he was coming back from injury, playing in a brand new system, etc. but the reality was if we traded for him to get us into the playoffs (thankfully didn't need him) or once we were in, then the results were at best mixed.

This is a new year and the slate has been cleaned. Lattimore can still make us glad of the trade and honestly, our DB play was so shaky before his arrival that who knows... maybe he really made a big difference in Tampa and Detroit even though we felt he underperformed.
 
This won’t be the last ‘questionable’ or controversial move Peters makes. We may as well get our minds around two things, a) that there will be head-scratchers, and b) it’s perfectly reasonable for fans to question moves as they would with any GM. Folks are free to provide counter-arguments when his moves are questioned.
 
Yep. It's even possible that it was a good move with a bad result.

I'm hoping that it ultimately turns out to be a good move with a good result.

I think that in retrospect, you are probably right. I'd rather have had the picks and the salary cap and Jaire, if we were deciding today.

The difference in my sentiment is that the decision to trade for Lattimore was made during the season, when we were trying to make a run, and Jaire wasn't available. For so long, I'd watch teams, and especially rival teams in our conference, take big trade swings. Like trading for AJ Brown, or moving around in the draft, or just generally be aggressive, while we had our feet stuck in the mud. Sometimes those traded or signings don't work out, Like trading for Jahan Dotson, or signing Bryce Huff. The team saw that we had a chance last year, if we could fix the secondary, and they took a swing. We were one game from the Super Bowl. I don't think it was a bad decision, even though so far, it looks questionable. And Lattimore, while he really wasn't good, was miles better than BSJ. I just don't think we make the NFC Championship game with BSJ outside.

And, I think Jaire might just be cooked. If he wasn't, he would have been signed by someone for more than 4 million. How much did the other FA CB's sign for in the offseason?

Also, I think Lattimore is a better scheme fit. He's a big, physical CB that can man up bigger WR's and can also make plays in the running game.

All of that being said, If Jaire rebounds and Lattimore doesn't, then your take is going to look pretty good.

Pretty weak response to a couple decent rebuttals to your point. You’re still allowed to have your opinion, but it’s not like people threw tantrums at what you said lol. Nobody can disagree without it being ideological about Peters? You’re that correct?

I'll start to worry when I see an Archuleta or a Haynesworth.

So far though they are actually finding guys who fit. That is at least a good starting point and something that Snyder and his minions never did achieve.

I think it was the "cry if you want to" comment that forced my defensive posture more than anything else.
 
It’s interesting to me that nobody has signed Von Miller or Jadaveon Clowney. I wonder if they play at all this year.

They both probably want a big paycheck and nobody is giving them one yet.

They'll probably sign for 5-10M each at some point.
