I get the concerns about his age and cost, and I tend to think holding out like this is a red flag, but I’m still surprised to see so much negativity around Hendrickson. Have you watched him play? He is consistently an impact player, and has been for years.

I don't think it's negativity as much as it is fear that we'll end up with the next Alex Smith or Albert haynesworth or deshaun Watson situation which is to say a huge contract for a player who's no longer contributing.

Acquiring players through free agency and trades is always a gamble, sometimes you get trent williams and make out like a bandit other times you get deshaun Watson and it's the worst trade ever.
The best gm's are really good at balancing risk reward when assessing the trade and a lot of us are thinking the risk likely outweighs the reward.

But I don't think there's a single person who wouldn't be ecstatic to see him on our roster next year.

As far as his threatened/potential holdout is concerned…imagine if Terry McLaurin was being dicked around in a similar fashion. There are a lot of parallels between the two players: age, money remaining on contract (none beyond this season), high character individual, underpaid compared to performance within the market, etc.

Would anyone seriously blame Terry if he were treated by Washington as Hendrickson has been by Cincinnati?

With some kind of funny money contract that has all the money deferred to the back half of the contract. I have no idea how they continue to get away with that stuff.

IIRC sites like OverTheCap and Spotrac calculate every player on the 90 man roster at this point, whereas by league rules, only the top 51 contracts count against the official cap as of now. So that could be one source of the disconnect there.

Guesstimating right now but.....I'll say 5 year 300 million deal.

I just checked, and Dak already makes $60 million a year. I’m gonna assume Jayden is extended after his 3rd season. We are going to treat him right.

I bet he makes 70 million a year, at least. Jesus. It’s crazy to think what that kind of life is like.

Dak will count $76M against the Dallas cap next season.

Cowboys are headed to oblivion after pushing his money and hit down the road repeatedly over past 2-3 years.

And again this is a quarterback that has won 2 playoff games in 10-11 years, the same total Jayden Daniels has after a single season as a rookie.

I don’t have a guess but unless something goes terribly wrong, Daniels will most likely be signing the largest contract in NFL history when the time comes, with the most guarantees by a good amount.

You should just stop expecting that right now, or you’re going to be sorely disappointed in our favorite player when the time comes, in all likelihood. Assume he’s going to get all he’s worth, assume he’s going do everything he can to be worth it, and just move on mentally imo. He will not give us a discount and historically, almost no one has in this league at that position in the limelight.

Brady is an anomaly for a reason (and there are many reasons for that, including the fact that he had a wife richer than any NFL player at the time and the Pats were essentially cheating by paying his “health” company to work with the team—under the table money, basically.

Anyways, would it be nice? Sure. Should we even remotely expect it? No. Should it change anyone’s opinion of him when the time comes? No.

We should resign Terry and some others with a high end salary this year declining through the years with an understanding with the player that this is what we are doing.
