I am glad they resigned him. He did a good job for us.
 
Jalen Holmes hopefully can be kept at DE where he has played most of his career.

We tried putting him inside at points last year and he just wasn’t a fit there vs the run.

Ron Rivera was SO BAD that even Mathis couldn’t develop into a capable starter or backup on the DL despite being a #2 pick.

The only thing I didn’t like about the Kinlaw signing was the rich figure for guaranteed money for a guy that while solid has not been a standout as of yet at this level.

Still trying to figure who was going to give him $30M guaranteed to compete with us for his services.

We should have enough against the run on the inside now/

It’s a head scratcher of a contract. He’s locked in here next season as well at a cap number of $18.4M. Which seems high!
 
That team is going to be so thin even more so if they re-sign Hendrickson. I do understand the impulse to keep the core together, but that core hasn't got it done for several years now. They really need to hit on the draft to help that defense.
 
We are the equivalent of Miami as to the DTs -- Going like 45 million a year for Allen and Payne was a cap debacle. While I am not as down on Allen as some here, he's been a good player, but not worth that contract, Payne though the bigger problem, decent player, not nearly worth that contract, not even close.

The Vikings doubled down on the Allen contract, will see how it works for them, though today's 20 million is the equivalent of like 14-15 million years back when Allen got his original contract.

As far as Hendrickson goes, feels like Cincy is going to retain him. Will see.

I just don’t see how they can afford him. I mean, they COULD, but I don’t see how you tie $150 million a year up in 4 players unless you already have a young, talented team filled with cheap players that you have drafted. Which, isn’t the case.

I might be in the minority here, but I’m still in favor of a Hendrickson trade. To my eye, and understanding that a team can catch lightning in a bottle, we don’t look like a Super Bowl roster without him, and we do with him. It looks like the kind of move that could put a team over the top. Especially if we get to keep our 1st this year.

Not sure I agree at this point--trading for Hendrickson shortens the window, especially considering how deep this draft is in DL.

I'm not in favor of trading for Hendrickson given the picks we have already traded away. But you are getting a proven Pro Bowl calibre player versus an unkown quantity.

If we are on the clock in the 2nd round and the Bengals called and offered Henrickson straight up for that 2nd rounder I would pull that trigger in an instant. My pause is they will want (much?) more than just this years 2nd and then I think I keep my picks and use them on an edge/DL and depending how the board breaks I'd be fine going Edge and then DT with the first two picks.

Maybe--but Hendrickson was a 3rd round pick himself. So while I agree with the premise, on paper, those don't always work out--we've seen that time and time again. I think it's vital at this point of our roster building to hit on draft picks. We need that cheap, young talent.

We need Newton, Sinnot and some of our later round picks from last year to step up as well.

I think Newton showed some good stuff. Think he will be at least a solid starter and maybe more.

Sinnot is a concern - big offseason for him. He's kind of the point, Keim made the point on his latest podcast that if someone offered us a straight swap Sinnott for Hendrickson that would stealing, but Sinnot was a 2nd round pick last year. Draft picks can turn into Jayden Daniels or they can turn into Chase Young.

But we do need picks like Sinnot and McCaffrey to at least become reliable role players - can not afford those picks to bust.

Hendrickson’s original team passed on extending him and he only became a star after changing teams. We need an impact DE in the worst way and I would be on board w our 1st for Hendrickson, a 3rd and a 4th
