FWIW, John McClain a long time Houston reporter on with JP and BMitch said as that trade was being announced essentially that Green is not good. LOL

They said Bechton was a flop as well and Philly turned him into something useful. I wouldn't put much stock into it, as the Eagles often find ways to make things work.

he was drafted highly and is still young so I don't wanna crap on Green...but the difference, imo, is that Becton, like Ereck Flowers for us, was a highly drafted tackle prospect that was moved to the inside. I think there is less chance for an upside with Green.

Agreed… look at the Texans last year, drafted the safety from USC Calen Bullock and he started day 1 and had a very good rookie campaign….
 
The thing is, the Eagles have such a good o-line coach. If anyone can coax the best out of a player, it's him. We had that once in Bugel and then Hannifan. Right now, I think we have an average o line coach, but I don't think we have one that really levels up a player.

It seems a bit odd sign a 3 tech DT who has always been a penetrating pass rusher and then ask him to be a space eating run stuffer when that seems to be something he sorta sucks at.
 
At 6'5 it's distinctly possible that Washington could use Kinlaw in a hybrid role - playing outside at DE on early run downs and then moving inside on third downs.

From what I was reading Kinlaw has remade himself to a degree in terms of body conditioning and strength, something he was asked to do in San Francisco and evidently was too immature as a #1 pick to do.

Seems he gets it now and at 27 is entering his prime.

Peters was in the front office that scouted and drafted him. I would trust his judgment in regards to the player until proven otherwise.

Give Keim's pod from last night a listen. He spent a fair amount of time talking about Quinn's Seattle defense that used what he termed an "elephant end" in numerous situations. They basically moved a DT out to the Edge, using him to rush and set the edge all at the same time. Keim theorized (while stressing that he has NOT talked to anyone in the org about this) that Kinlaw might be used in a similar way here. He also noted that this staff never signs a guy without a plan for how to use him and that Quinn has pointed out to the media that we might not use a guy in a way he has ever been used before.

He also stressed that this team has had tremendous luck bringing in guys with whom they are personally familiar. While everyone remembers that Peters came from SF, we should all remember that our D-line coach, Daryl Tapp, was the Assistant D-line coach in SF for the whole time Kinlaw played there.

If you listen to last night's Blind Pig pod, you will hear me talk with less than glowing enthusiasm about this particular signing but that was before listening to Keim's pod.

The thinking seems to be (this is people on the outside trying to rationalize the signing) that he is not going to be used inside as a run stuffing DT - but more as a 5 tech or even 7 tech in base as a big edge who will set the edge against the run. A 4-3 under front as base with Kinlaw as the 'elephant' DE.
 
And here I was just downgrading the talent on defense in another thread partly because of the loss of Chinn.

Harris isn't the same kind of player. I think he will be better in coverage than Chinn was.
 
It’s not the end all be all but his PFF scores leave a whole lot to be desired. Only 1 int in his career. This will be his 3rd team and a struggling Saints secondary decided to let him walk. Maybe all the chips haven’t fallen yet and he’s just depth
