I think there’s some sense in bringing in an older vet that’s a quality route runner, particularly for Daniels - a guy that’s savvy and will be at exactly the right place on time, much like Ertz. They don’t need to be able to get wide open, just give Daniels the trust that he’ll have that initial window off the break.

Obviously we could use a guy that can stretch the field too (and I think they’ll try to address that as well), but it’s not easy to find one guy that can do both. I think we might bring in a younger, less proven guy for the latter (maybe late in the draft?).

Another facet I’d like is someone with good spatial awareness that’s used to playing with mobile qbs - ie a guy that’s good at getting open after a play breaks down.

And then of course there’s the blocking element.

I’m expecting adding a couple/few guys that can check at least a couple of those boxes with some differences to their game. We’ll see.

Sweat is elite in run defense. Something this team needs badly.

He's not elite at anything. His PFF run defense grade last season was 69.3. IMO Sweat without Williams and Carter next to him is a complete JAG.

PFF considers Payne elite ffs. They are a clownshow.

I generally like PFF, but their run defense grades are questionable--both Jalen Carter and Jordyn Davis were in the 50s this year. I find that very hard to believe.
