The 2025 Free Agency Thread

I don't understand why you'd give such a monster extension to a guy with 4 years left on his current deal.

I get that he's unquestionably the teams franchise quarterback but that's a pretty big gamble, nobody knows what the future is going to bring so why not be a little patient and see what things look like in 2 years and then you have two years to work out an extension.

The positives of doing a deal like this are maybe saving a little money when he cap goes up and the browns can tell you what the negatives are.

His previous contract expired at age 32, now he's locked up until 34. I suspect they manipulated the cap hits in a way that was neutral as compared to what they already were. They also probably saw the writing on the wall regarding cap growth and wanted to lock in at the current rate.

That makes more sense, I thought it was a 6 year extension.

That Allen contract is one of the reasons I'm fine with paying a bunch of money to some FAs or trades over the next couple of years. Once JD's extension comes up, it will likely be around $400 million. Take advantage of that rookie deal as much as possible.

Go get him Adam.
We have a lot of money tied up in two receivers all ready - and a bad defense.

I’d think we will put big free agent money into CB and edge. O’Line as well if there is anyone worth paying for.

I dont know what Fowler is bitching about. He is 30, cant stop the run and had his first double digit sack year since 2019. He is a rotational piece. Nothing more.
Nor do I see the point in cryptic tweets. Kinda 8th grade passive aggressive stuff. Someone disrespected you enough to trigger you to share it with the world, yet not quite enough for you to say who or why? Stop. Just stop.
I hope it wasn't AP or anyone representing this team, I don't think disrespect is part of their game plan. But if it was and Fowlers gonna go this route?? No thanks

Makes ya wonder if he really is being disrespected or is struggling with unrealistic expectations after an outlier year.
My bet is he saw his sack numbers and he and his agent thought he was going to land a huge contract, and peters said “no no no.”

And they are upset. Somebody else MIGHT be willing to pay a ton for him. But ideally he’s a pass rush specialist. He couldn’t set the end against a paraplegic 10 year old in a wheel chair.
