Wonder with the Seattle connections -- Carroll and Quinn consider Lockett. I know he's not at his peak form but at the same time I figure he can be had at a reasonable price. Seems like he fits the locker room type they want.

Lockett was far more than just a productive pass catcher, however. He was also beloved by teammates, coaches and fans alike, and three times his teammates voted him the winner of the prestigious Steve Largent Award, which is given to the player or coach who best exemplifies the spirit, dedication and integrity of the Seahawks, making him one of three players, along with Russell Wilson and Mack Strong, to win that award three or more times.
"Man, I can go on all day," quarterback Geno Smith said when asked about Lockett. "We'd be here all day talking about Tyler Lockett. He means so much to me. Just to see an NFL player of his caliber to have the humble demeanor that he has and the selflessness that he has and just the way that—a thousand-yard receiver consistently, the consistency that he's shown and the leadership that he's given to DK (Metcalf), Jaxon [Smith-Njigba] and all those guys in that room, it doesn't go unnoticed. He's one of my best friends. He's a guy that I played against in college, so I knew exactly what he could do all along. Just being around him, his family, his wife—he's soon to be a dad—he's a special guy, a special person, and a special player."

Lockett also made a big impact in the community, leading to him twice being the team's nominee for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award, recognizing the work he did both in Seattle and his hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
From his clutch catches late in games or on third down, to his spectacular toe-tapping grabs, to his numerous long catches on deep balls, Lockett was a playmaker in every sense of the word. That, combined with everything he meant to the team as a leader and to the community, made him a player universally loved and praised. Arguably no player coaxed more glowing praise out of Pete Carroll than Lockett, with Carroll, at various times, calling him "such a great player for so long," or "phenomenal," or a player with "extraordinary savvy," or a player capable of "masterpiece" performances.
(y) It only makes sense that he heads South and reunites with Coach Carroll & Geno Smith on a 1 year deal.

He said the charm of Washington is many think they have a generational QB and he wouldn't have to move far from Baltimore.
Ok, but Baltimore also has a generational QB and he wouldn’t have to move at all.

And KC has possibly THE generational QB. But you do have to live in Kansas or Missouri.

NE doesn’t stand a chance. Maye MIGHT be a good QB. But it’s really cold and the team stinks.

lol, the weird thing about both players is I can't think of "star"players more allergic to signing autographs and talking to younger fans. I've been to camp many times, many days over the years. And those two almost never engage with fans at camp. They stood out to me on that front because so many players engage big time. Although I've head once in a blue moon, Allen would but I've never seen it at any time I was there. Guys like Terry for example, can sign autographs for over an hour and never really skip doing it ever. I don't care about it for myself I don't collect autographs but my kids did back in the day.
Really interesting story, but maybe to balance this a bit, I heard this anecdote on the radio today; I think I knew this before but had forgotten:

Grant Paulsen was saying, he gets the business decision to let JA go, but he just wanted to tell people JA was a good guy in his dealings, and he gave out a couple of quick stories. One was basically that JA called into the show's producers and told them that there were not enough fans in the seats, so he personally bought a bunch of seats for a Cowboys game and wanted the show to sell the tickets.

I mean, that is a pretty cool story, I thought. Grant also said that he was a Virginia guy and implied that he cared about the team. I have definitely gotten a sort of "tired" vibe from him since the Harris change. Who knows.

Jon Allen has been one of our best players and a good leader. He was probably a little overrated and overpaid, but I always liked the guy. I remember an interview he gave at the end of the 4-13 season, you could see the losing hurt him. I am surprised by the news of his departure. I can only think the team believes they can get better value for the money, especially considering we have another great DT costing a lot.

Everybody is talking like Payne is gone too, but I don’t understand why. He was probably the best of that vaunted Young-Payne-Allen-Sweat line. Of course, I was surprised to see the rest of them go, so who knows? I had high hopes for that group, sad to see how it turned out.

Assuming we are making room for big signings, I would be thrilled to have guys like Hendrickson, Garrett, of Stanley. I am a big believer in the idea games are won and lost at the line of scrimmage.

I wouldn't be surprised if all the losing and disfunction did wear Allen down. I think once he saw the team actually doing something he tried as hard as he could to rally and that's why he was able to come back despite having a season ending injury. If I'm right, the reason they didn't restructure the deal may be partly because the coaches and Peters remember Allen in the first half of the season not selling out, not giving his all, and just being dominated/ineffective too much of the time. It can be hard to keep the motor going after years of failure. It's possible Allen's didn't buy in and he didn't even realize it.

And yes, Jon Allen had been one of our best players. He was one of the few who seemed like he wanted to win. It's not impossible that he lost some fire last year. Rivera's last year, the whole team through in the towel and decided not to care. Once a player does that it might be hard to get their edge back.

Baltimore cant afford him though.
I was just reacting to the report where the 4 teams in for him were the Ravens, Commanders, Chiefs and Patriots.

If that report is true, the Ravens might be trying to see what his value is and match a contract.

Shrug.

Yeah I saw some of that too, but I have no clue how the Ravens or the Chiefs are planning on signing a guy who'll likely be asking for between $20 and $25 million per year when they have cap spaces of $7m (Ravens) and -$6m (Chiefs) unless they're also planning on either letting a bunch of other guys go or doing a ton of restructuring.

The annual salary number doesn't mean much without knowing term or guarantees.
That's true but if Cincy is guarantying that amount then I don't know why he isn't wanting to stay other than wanting to get paid more $$$.

But you don't know whether they're giving him big guarantees or significant term so why speculate?

So the Bengals are somehow going to give Chase a new contract of likely $35+m/year while also giving Hendrickson a $30+m/year contract and looking to sign Higgins to a likely $20+m/year contract?

Doubtful, it's the Bungles after all. They are probably just going to try to keep the cheaper 2 of 3.

Yeah, the Bengals are known for trying to low ball on guaranteed money. I'm sure something like that is going on.

Allen has been nothing but a leader and class act his entire career with us. Y'all bitching about him makes no sense. Sure, we over valued him, but he's been voted to top 100 by other players, which is the only list that matters, so acting like he sucked is dumb.

It's kind of sad that he asked for a pay cut to stay and they still said no. I'll remember him well.
remember his public tantrum 2 years ago?yeah, pure class. lol

when he finished another terrible year with some of the worst coaching we've ever seen on this team? Yeah, pretty sure most of us were throwing worse tantrums. So I guess you think Miles Garrett is classless now too. Gimme a break.

It surely wreaks of BS.

If these numbers were real, it will be interesting to see what AP is willing to spend. Especially with a Garrett deal where you are also giving u draft picks. Perhaps they start looking and Landry at least as a backup plan.

If AP did pull the trigger on Hendrickson and Stanley, I tend to doubt they will be looking at any other top end FAs. I would expect a couple 1 year prove-it contracts and second third level FAs then sit until after the draft.

He basically played a full season 4 out of the last 5 seasons. TEs tend to miss time. Heck we are talking about Ertz. His durability in the last 5 years doesn't come close to matching Engram. Last year was an outlier for Ertz as to durability.
Wow, I didn't realize he has been the healthy. That's not like the old days when he was with the Giants, he couldn't stay healthy and dropped a lot of passes
