The 2025 Free Agency Thread

I would rather sign Bosa at 29 rather than give up high picks for the 31 year old Hendrickson.

That #2 pick in 2025 is an OT or DT or DB this team needs too badly to pass up.

This defense needs 4-5 adds not just one big trade.

Bosa can't stay healthy. Hendrickson just turned 30 in December. I'd rather have an All-Pro edge player for the next few years while we have JD on a rookie deal than a 2nd rounder who is statistically more likely to be an average starter than anything special. We could get Hendrickson and still draft and sign other more moderate FAs.

We have decent, albeit not great, edge rushers...or at least better than the Chase/Montez duo were. We need a DE who can play both the pass and the run. It was our run defense that was embarrassing.

2nd and Jon Allen for Hendrickson and a 7th?

His big money guarantees over the next three years lines up with Jayden's rookie contract window so that's not an issue.

I'd do it for a 2nd rounder and change. The Bengals are apparently having cap issues, its part of the point why Trey is on the market, so I think zero chance of all teams the Bengals will swallow Allen's contract. It sounds like no team is interested alas as to taking on Allen's contract which is awful considering his age, recent injury history and contract.

Whoa, good to see you SIP! How'd you find your way over here? Were you at the Tampa WC game?

See your point on Allen's contract although Cincinnati needs help at DT and Allen would certainly cost less than Hendrickson... not sure how the math works out though. In any case, a 2nd + something minor is a deal I would do, especially if the additional piece is a pick-swap or player for pick.

Thanks. Yeah I did go to the Tampa WC game -- wild, most fun I ever had at a football game.

Yeah it looks like Cincy is super tight against the cap trying to get Chase long term and Higgins, etc. Beat guys are saying they expect Jonathan Allen to be released, no takers on his contract. Frankly, I wouldn't trade even a 7th rounder for Allen at that contract. It looks like alas the league sees it the same way. Don't get me wrong I'd love to dump his contract off to some other team but it doesn't feel like its in the cards -- but who knows maybe we will be surprised.

For Allen, maybe if Washington eats most of his contract. That is, swallow his contract where Ciny gets him cheap. But supposedly SF asked Washington to do that and Washington wasn't willing.

Dead cap if we release him is $6M so we could retain that amount or a little bit more to get the deal done. It might have been something we were unwilling to do for Deebo last week but more willing for Hendrickson now, especially knowing there's no market for JA. Also to the extent we want to "do right by Jon" (whatever that means) sending him to play with Burrow would certainly fit that bill

I hear you but I'd be very surprised if Allen is packaged to Cincy where its something they want.

Don't get me wrong, I think Allen has had a good career. But now headed north of 30 with some injuries and coming off a meh season, I don't know how much he has left. He did though play well in the championship game. But will see.

All the beat guys seem to think Allen is about to be released. I hope they are wrong but will see. If it was like 2 years ago, we could have gotten a haul for Jonathan Allen.

Call me crazy, but I could see us trading Hendrickson, signing Khalil Mack, and drafting an Edge rusher. You want a rotation. Edge is one of the stronger spots in the draft. It could shake out like that and mix of youth with age is important.

I like the Wagner re-signing, it buys the team this offseason to draft his replacement who wouldn't have to step into the role on day one.

Also as far as DE's go, I actually really like Armstrong on the edge as the #2 guy and feel that if he is paired with a true stud on the other end it will do wonders for him. He was pretty much the main pass rush threat this season and had a lot of close calls, but his ceiling just isn't among that elite game-wrecking level and it showed when being forced into the lead role, but as the compliment player on the other side of a force multiplier caliber player Armstrong could benefit a lot.
