The 2025 Free Agency Thread

Calais albiet old might be interesting.
Was this the guy where either Bruce or Jay said something like “we could have gotten him, but we got these two schleps instead?” (Paraphrasing…)

I wish we would do something to fix our line. Jayden wont hold up for many years unless we fix it
They said last year before the season they were higher on the OL than the fans. I think they’re still higher than the fans.

I expect we’ll see some movement. But I just don’t get the sense they feel it’s as much of a need as we do.

Not that I necessarily agree, that’s just what I am getting based on actions and comments.

Yes they did, and this is concerning to me.
I totally agree with them on one aspect - fans tend to simplify the OL problem, especially fans of this franchise with the HOGS engrained in the lore of the team if not the direct memory of fans.

Scheme, playcalling, and preparation definitely can make the OL look better. That's true. However, I do think you need at least one guy who is a blue-chipper or nearly so. I thought Biadasz might be that guy at some point. I like what they put together on short notice too.

I do think you're right, I expect they will make a move in the draft for OL and DL, at least one for each, and that may be the main moves they make for OL. If it plays out that way, I will certainly still trust that the plan works out. The key for me will be doing a better job with the run game this year, which is where my concern will be; I don't think Kliff is dedicated enough there, and I think that will always put our OL on their back heel which can be pretty tough. Coleman in particular just looked really bad on a few key plays down the stretch; it was hard to tell where to lay blame for it, I just hope we see improvement. That alone could make a big difference.

KC Joe Thuney to Bears for a 4th. 32 yo

"Despite winning the "Derrick Thomas Award" from the Chiefs as the team's most valuable player, Thuney is being shipped away for a fourth-round pick."

A true bargain at OT will be Jaylon Moore from the 49ers. I got a gut feeling that AP signs him in free agency not because he's an inexpensive signing but because he fits what we do and replaces Lucas.
He agrees with you

this helps

Joey Bosa released by chargers. Any interest? is he hurt a lot? Seems surprising

He had a $36m cap number and only $11m dead cap hit. That’s probably the reason he was released more than anything.

In 2024 he played 14 games, 2023 9, 2022 5.

He hasn’t been healthy.

Peters knows the Bosa’s though. I’m sure a phone call will be made. I’d be surprised if anything materializes because of the availability issues but eh, you never know.

Yeah, Joey Bosa has had lots of injury issues, but if he's relatively cheap I could see us giving him a 1 year contract to see if he can stay healthy.

That was Vinny,. Takes me way back because I among others wanted Calais. We even had one of Calais' college coaches on staff. He was a surprise faller. One of many dumb moves by this FO.

Keim's FA podcast this morning. Some takeaways. Most are obvious but he seems plugged in so for what its worth.

A. WR. He mentioned Slayton and Kirk. He said that's not per se what he's heard but either seems to fit. Expects Zaccheus and N. Brown back. Not sure about Dyami. He doesn't think they swing big again for a D. Adams type.

B. RB he expects them to take one in the draft.

C. TE. They want Ertz back and Bates. Thinks Ertz is back not as sure about Bates he expects some FA competiton. Like Logan Paulsen, Keim is always super polite but they both come off skeptical about Sinnott's development and feel that they should try to add a young TE.

D. DT. Thinks more of a 1 technique run stuffer type will be acquired. He's optimisitc (I assume that means the team is optimistic) about Newton. He played better as the season progressed. Because Newton is a 3 technqiue type he doesn't expect them to swing back in FA for another type ala a M. Williams.

E. Expects an edge to be signed. Thinks they are getting no takers for a trade for Jonathan Allen so he's likely to be released.

F. Thinks Wagner is likely back and they have some optimism that Mcgee could be his successor

G. Thinks they should add a corner

I am surprised he named Zaccheus as being brought back right away like that. Noah seems an obvious resigning that I hope comes before March 12.

It sounds like Slayton is beginning to get more buzz which stinks because he'd be a great fit. How strong is the Kirk/Kliff connection? We will soon find out.

I expect to hear of the expected Ertz signing any day now.

I see Bates and Dyami getting paid big in FA, they are receiving buzz.

Any mention on the OL by chance?

No obvious leanings toward any Offensive Lineman in FA?

Beat me to it DWinzit

I think he as all the way back with Vinny.... and maybe the Zornstar?

But yeah, two picks after Fred Davis, and one right before Mr. Comb

Our drafting had been repulsive for 2 decades plus. I’m am trying to just look forward now, with our new regime because when I look back, it’s just hideous.
