That is true. That said, I listened to the Take Command podcast yesterday and Logan Paulsen pointed out part of what made the Eagles defense so good was the coverage combined with the pass rush. There just wasn't much air in the defense. Patrick Mahomes time to throw was 3.2 seconds which is on the higher not lower side. Mahomes didn't have time to go through his reads, but he did have time to get to his first read, his first read just wasn't open most of the time. The Eagles were getting consistent pressure bringing only four AND they were taking away Mahomes first read. Over the long haul its going to be tough for the Eagles to keep a defensive roster that good at all three level. You can have a good D-Line that consistently pressures with only four, but if the back two levels of the defense are average, the QB's first read will be open a lot and they'll have some success because you are not going to get instant pressure bringing four and maintaining lane consistency.

All that said, Garrett to the Eagles would make that defense very tough to go against next year. It would require a lot of quick game and making very few mistakes and only a couple teams will likely execute at a high enough level in a given season to beat that.

I don't know how much Philly should want to chase Garrett.

Like they're gonna have a tough enough time keeping the band together, and replacing what they're inevitably gonna lose. That doesn't really get any easier with Garrett, indeed it probably gets harder. Either you're giving up a bunch of high picks, really good players, or both.

I don’t think Garrett will be traded this year. The Browns cap situation is dire and they would have to pay to trade him. He’s due $19,722,120 this season. If the Browns trade him then they would take on a dead cap of $36,216,220. He’s not going anywhere.

I said at the time that the combination of Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean in the draft by Roseman was a major coup for the Eagles.

Both of these guys were rated higher than where they went and Philly got excellent value.

Myles Garrett? He's 29, almost 30.

He doesn't fit into where this team is overall and where we are going.

By the time we get the rest of the team together and are capable of beating teams like the Eagles in the playoffs, he's going to be 32 years old.

Even HOF defensive linemen like Aaron Donald and Warren Sapp were done by 32/33.

Garrett belongs on a team like the Bills or Chiefs, if they want to make that one big tweak to be better in 2025.

The other consideration is finding another interior OL to replace Sam Cosmi while he rehabs from a serious knee injury. Given when he got hurt he may not be available until the 2025 season is already underway.

So, once again the offensive line comes into focus as a key area for improvement top to bottom, including finding some interior depth.

Watching that Super Bowl, my first thought was the Chiefs offensive line, especially the tackles, were not starting caliber NFL starting players and were nothing but tackling dummies for the Eagles defensive linemen.

Rule #1 in this league is protect your franchise quarterback.

Finding guys to play safety or running back are priorities far down my list.

The only counter to that I'd offer is, we are not that far off from being capable of beating teams like the Eagles in the playoffs. After all, we beat Tampa Bay and Detroit in the playoffs, but more importantly, we beat Philly in the regular season.

So, while they are better. They are not beyond our target range. In other words, I wouldn't concede defeat to them next year.

Well, we were lucky during the second Philly game that Hurts went out injured early on.

Let's be honest - Kenny Pickett almost beat us.

I would say that Detroit was the perfect foil for Washington because they also heavily depended upon their quarterback and skill players on offense to keep them competitive, with half of their defense on IR.

In that game Jayden Daniels handled the pressure well and Jared Goff did not, and in the end that was the big difference.

When you have a top tier quarterback, and I can think of Green Bay with Aaron Rodgers as an example, you sometimes have the tendency to value your talent more than you should overall.

Daniels can win games almost by himself at times, but we can't let that divert us from the other statistics from the 2025 season that showed big holes and our eyes/vision of what we saw at times with Jayden having to run that many times during the season.

Don't disagree, but I will quibble that we saw that those games did demonstrate that we could compete with Philly's D... even if they also proved that our players need some stickum on their hands to prevent fumbling.

It feels like we're only weeks away from discussion of tanking next year so we can compete with the eagles for years to come.

I'm glad the team doesn't have the same mindset as the fans, when quinn came out in his introductory press conference and said it's a recalibration and not a rebuild most people blew that off as coach speak but he and peters meant it and had every intention of being competitive this year and they were.

Next year with the right pieces there's no reason we can't compete with the eagles.
Sure they'll still be more talented, that probably won't change for years to come but the more talented team doesn't always win and we proved that many times this year.

I think the pushback you're feeling is that because of years of awful seasons, many Redskins's natural form has become Eeyore. I don't think that's you, but there is a pervasive defeatism that eminates from some of our fandom. It's something that gets group-thinked into even more negativity.

So, I just want to say that I reject defeatism. I reject throwing in the towel before the first punch has been thrown. I reject the idea that we are really a 5-12 team that just got absurdly lucky.

At the same time, I acknowledge this team does need to get better and that it needs to infuse more game breaking players on offense and defense. We made it incredibly far using try-hard guys who played above their historical means. So, improving our high end talent is a good thing. However, that furious effort and will to win matters. The team we have now has a lot going for it and we don't need to dismiss it or entirely blow it up. One truly awful playoff game (in which we still competed better than the Chiefs were able to) does not undo all the good this team did and is.

Always looking for impact. Does the player coming in via trade, FA or draft, bring everyone's game up a notch or 2. How does he effect a group. Does he shift opponents focus on the group. Garrett is a no-brainer to me. He checks every box you have in looking for an impact player. And bringing a guy of his stature to this team will just infuse him with such drive, he would play like a new player. He has a minimum of 3 years left in the tank for game wrecker ability. BUT, does he fit into our overall plan? Only one guy knows that.

Taking some time watching the NFC Championship and I am floored at watching Chris Paul. If you haven't yet, take time to do that vs Jalen Carter. We might have quick answers while we work on developing younger talent and waiting for Cosmi to come back. I get his history, but players can grow and learn with a new system and then it clicks. We need a mauler at G to improve our run game. We need guys who can displace players and get to the next level quickly.

I am also looking at a 2nd Corner and is there a shot at a game changing WR. I am on record as I would look at trying to DK Metcalf. A pipe dream, but with Seattle in cap hell (a bit) and the thought of DK in a Kliff offense structured to cause mis matches, just brings a smile to my face. I have no idea if he would reach the Commander level, but a 6'4" 230 lb 10.3 sprinter in this offense at the WR spot just seems like it would be unfair. Oh and he is 27.

This is going to be a long spring for sure and so many more options will come up as the time keeps marching. All of this could change immediately and someone who we had no thoughts of being avail could show up. I love that it seems in most cases that AP has great patience. He has a history of being involved with getting big names IF they fit. So in the meantime, I am going to play fantasy football and hope for the best.

i think the jury is still out on that (whether cooper dejean is better than Sainristil). Sainristil stats are MUCH better and he was playing a new position, and didn't have anywhere near the caliber of players around him to support. Sainristill, IMO, will be a perennial all pro in a couple of years.

This is wild hyperbole.

It’s okay to take a step back now that the ride is over and be honest with where we are as a franchise.

As fun as the season was, the facts are we won a lot of close ball games, including some against meh teams.

We way outplayed our talent level which is awesome for what Dan is building here. But you cannot count on that year in and year out. It’s almost unbelievable what this team did with the roster they had.

The roster needs a lot of work. That’s not being Debbie Downer, it’s just facts. I fully expect AP understands that and will do everything he can to bridge the talent gap quickly.

No doubt that Dan expected the team to compete every week - that’s culture. But he wasn’t born yesterday and understands talent and how vital it is to sustaining any level of success in the NFL.

Agree, and it’s probably safe to say Philly will take at least a small step back. It’s rare to repeat such a great season and keep in mind they were pretty much completely healthy down the stretch. Not sure they were even missing a single player in the SB? The odds are against repeating that kind of luck with injuries.
