I'm not getting the logic of recreating the gaping hole in the secondary to fix a hole on the DL. No disrespect intended sir, I just don't think that move would be one Adam Peters would/should make.

I hear you. My logic is... Daron Payne has been a disappointment and I think it'd be nice to upgrade, but his stock is still pretty high. He's considered valuable. Marshon Lattimore might get his act together, but he's an injury risk and struggled in his limited snaps here. It's possible that via the draft and free agency, we can plug his hole without a cap hit.
But I can also see the logic of wanting to keep our resources versus weakening our "strengths."
I do not think the Browns could afford to pay those 2.

Really? I'd imagine Miles is pretty expensive. You may be right though.
He is at about 19 million- Payne and Lattimore are a bit more than 40 million- Cleveland has the Watson problem.

You don't trade for a guy like this if you don't want give him an extention. Miles will elevate the play of every single play on this defense. We seen what Quin can do with an elite edge rusher in Parsons. If this is possible we need to make it happen. This is the type of player that makes a top 15 defense a top 5 defense.
Garrett’s contract has a bunch of void years they added to lower his cap charge, he’s also got really low base salaries with most of his money coming in a big lumpy roster bonus paid out early in the league year.
It’s not team friendly from a cash flow perspective and the Browns will have a lot of dead cap to deal with even if they designate him a post June trade.
The Browns are a mess from a cap/contracts perspective.

The hole on the DL is much more important than the secondary. Anyway, I think they can get it done without trading Lattimore. Maybe the dumb Browns like St Juste!

I say go all in for Garrett and give up the 2 1sts and big extension. He is elite, a difference maker at a premium position of need, and would elevate our defense big-time. We would be ready to compete for super bowls for the duration of Jayden's rookie window. I hope it works out.
And if he ends up in Philly, they are going to be a real PIA for all of JDs rookie window.

The Browns are in a pickle with Watsons contract and they currently have no illusions of contending for the next few years. They will want draft picks above all else so as to develop for the future without getting hampered by huge contracts. No way we can compete for MG given our current draft status..
I wouldn't be even mildly surprised if something like that happened even if it wasn't us.
It wouldn't be unprecedented it happened with osweiler.

No doubt that is what they would do if they made the deal.... I'm simply stating that it would be a very bad move. Our two biggest assets right now to improve the team are draft picks and cap space. A deal like this would be expensive on both fronts, a bad move for a soon to be 30 year old player when we are on the front end of our contending window.

I think we can offer that more than any other contender. Patriots, Raiders have more space, but their picks are way too high to deal for a 29 yr old player--plus, they suck. I could see Detroit being a player, same as Minnesota. My main worry is the Eagles, but they do not have the cap space right now to add Garrett and then the rest of their roster. If I'm the Browns, I am looking for a way out of the Watson contract as a rider on this trade

Isn’t improving the team exactly what we would be using the assets for in this case? Arguably the best DL in the league in his age 29 – 30– 31 seasons sounds pretty damn good to me for the next few years!

Imagine that we add Tee Higgins, Charvarius Ward, Khalil Mack, a 1st round OT, 2nd round RB, and then can trade for Myles Garrett. How many teams in the NFL have a roster better than that? If we can be aggressive in FA and the draft, AND have a chance to trade for Garrett after June 1, I almost don't think there is a reasonable price too high. We should outbid the other teams and jump on that.
