When we talk about "locker room guys" something to keep in mind is that one of the likely reasons AP & DQ wanted locker room guys on this roster in 2024 is because I don't think it was expected that this team was going to win as soon as it did, definitely not to the extent of getting to the NFCC. The old adage of "you have to learn how to win first before you start winning" right? I think going into this past season there was a lot of effort to make a big culture change, get rid of as much dead weight as possible and for those leftover from the Rivera era, you have to show them what it means to have a winning culture, what it means as far as preparation, focus, commitment, mindset, taking care of your body for the long haul of the season etc etc....basically all the things winning organizations do that build a solid foundation for consistent winning not just catching lightning in a bottle for random isolated seasons and then reverting right back.

Sometimes the locker room guys are what is needed to get the ball rolling in changing the actual culture of the team and you do it likely in seasons where the team isn't expected to win a lot of games because the intangibles, they bring off the field, especially the ones with championship experience will be lessons that stay with the rest of the players far beyond when those initial locker room guys have left the team and in turn you now have an entire roster committed to that system and is passing that knowledge down to every new crop of players that join the team.

It's been something sorely missing from this franchise for a long time because under the Snyder era veteran players were basically signed to grab & go.

We have the need. We have the money. He wants to compete for the Super Bowl now, and so do we. I’ll be very surprised, and somewhat disappointed, if we don’t make a run at him.
 
Two 1sts and whatever else you need to throw in for Myles Garrett. Also, it’s crazy that we are now a team that these players that want to compete for a SB might come to.
 
I'm "fine" sending 29, since we need an edge rusher anyway and he's the best in the business.

I would be hesitant to throw too much more at him. We still have a lot of holes and so unless these are late round picks we will be limiting our ability to add talent thru the draft.
 
a no 1 Allen and Payne-that would pay for Godwin and Higgins too. Okay, one can dream
 
IF all the boxes check off about his character for AP and DQ, which I think they have been from his general media attention. One of the first things I would ask would be how would other teams look at dealing with him each week. There are only a few men in the league that are the focal point of opposing teams. On our defense, it would immediately become him. And rightfully so. Does he improve our team and take us a step closer to the Super Bowl? I think he takes us 2 steps to be honest.

Outside all the great bells and whistles that would come with getting him, he is one that would force me to take a look at my plan that I have in place for long term success and see how I can change things to make this work. The real decision becomes, is that going to require to much change? Risk/reward. Its what AP is paid to determine. I would be really surprised if we don't make a real run at him. Who doesn't want to get on the Commanders Train right now? Plus, he saw it this past year, who knows if that sparked anything for him.
 
I would feel better about signing Mack in Free Agency if Garrett cost us more than a 1 and a 2.

I could see throwing spaghetti at the wall with Garrett like your suggested offer.

My gut is they might go after one of the high profile FA's like Higgins, Ward or Stanley but Peters wont go hard at a bunch of them. Look for players a notch below them, more hopes get filled before the draft.

I think you are correct but I believe beyond that one high profile they might sign Mack for one year. Makes more sense than trading away too much for Garrett with an even greater salary cap hit.
 
If a one straight up wouldn’t do it Id see about doing some pick swaps with the browns if possible too. They have 9 picks this draft so maybe we could make something work. I just don’t want to see the eagles get him. I know they’re possibly losing sweat at DE. Sure they may not have the space, but if anyone can figure it out I’m sure howie can.

I'm most probably the exception here, but I really didn't see where Ertz was all that. Yes he had the name and acceptable catch rate (64%.) He was zero threat for YAC and caught less than most. No defenses had to account for him and it's not like he was a blocking phenom. I'll give him credit for bringing a veteran presence to the field. IMO linking him to a player like Wags is a disservice to Bobby. I think I would have let Sinnot grow with more reps and I'm not gonna cry if Ertz has played his last down here.
 
If they think Sinnott is ready to take the next step, or like, they wanted to do something like trade for Pitts/draft Loveland, then if Ertz isn't brought back that's fine.

BUT 7 TDs is tied for 4th among TEs, and he had the 11th most yards among TEs at 654, and his 38 first downs was 9th most.

He was a huge red zone threat and great at moving the chains, his 38 first downs is 4th on the team (besides Jayden, BRob, and Terry). Ultimately, I agree that between the 20's his value is really only in extending the drive (but that's a big "only") but once we were in the red zone and especially near the goal line he was deadly. Overall he was probably a bottom half of top 10 QB. I think his skill set, while limited, is great as a safety blanket. If Sinnott doesn't take the next step, I'll gladly take what Ertz brings to the table.

If you have Garrett on the DL, you can run approach FA the way we did last year, with guys like Armstrong and Fowler and Wagner and draft late in the 1st/2nd etc, and still field a very good defense. I feel like it would be a lesser version of having Daniels on offense. He elevates the defense as a whole.

People get obsessed with explosives, and, I understand why, but, What you are desrebing, 4th in TD, 11th in yards, 9th in 1st downs, that is a top 10 TE. Who is also a great culture guy, was huge in clutch moments, isn't going to be expensive, and REALLY wants to be here. How is that not a no brainer? And then, if you want draft a young explosive guy to develop alongside Ertz, that's fine.
