if it takes 2 firsts to get Garrett, I doubt we do that. If it takes one? There is no question Garrett is a better player than anybody you are picking at 29.

As far as taking on Watson’s contract, or parts of it, he is $70m against the cap for 2 or 3 years. The Browns can deal with that debacle. If it was 20m/year, maybe. But $70? No way. And we’d need to cut him immediately because you can’t let that cancer step foot in the building.

2. G Trey Smith, Kansas City Chiefs​

Smith's 78.8 PFF overall grade in the regular season ranked 11th among all guards, and he will still be only 25 years old when free agency opens. That's a good combination for a big payday, given that multiple players at the position signed deals at or exceeding $20 million per year in 2024.

The complicated element when projecting a contract for Smith is the reason he fell to the end of the sixth round in the 2021 NFL Draft: He was diagnosed with blood clots in his lungs. On the field, he is every bit of a prized free agent. Factoring in his health is the key question.



We could shift to LG when Cosmi returns and actually can kick out to tackle if needed

Problem with this article is that, yeah, we could get $63.5M more money this year, but all those extensions will add more money down the road, when you will have to resign Jayden to a big money contract. Besides, this FA class is not filled with studs. I’d rather keep some cash for down the road.
 
Not to mention that no specifics (math) are included in the extensions. I need a little more to deal with pop-ups and ‘next’ buttons.
 
Things will get interesting next month. Last year they replaced most of the entire roster. I wonder if they will purge even more of the Rivera team. I'm expecting either Allen or Payne to be out the door. Possibly a replacement for Robinson at RB. Will Quinn want to get that DT from Dallas who is a FA? Miles Garrett is going to also be a possibility.

Hopefully a 1st rounder is enough to get Garrett. Then they can focus some on the OL in rounds 2-3 and pick up a RB later in the draft.

Almost feels like a no brainer to me to cut Wylie and bring Morgan Moses back on a 1 year $5M deal. Even at 34, he is as or more durable than Wylie, is a much better pass protector and offers as much as, if not more, in the run game.

I believe he still lives in the area and is one of Logan Paulsen’s training clients

Was always a standup guy here. Apparently was a locker room hero in New York gutting it out with injury after injury - set a standard for the younger guys

Deebo Samuel has been granted permission from the 49ers to find a trade. He has one year left on his deal with a 24m cap hit. I’m only posting this as there may be a personal connection with GMAP. He doesn’t really excite me as a player at that cost + draft capital.

I agree. Either he agrees to a new contract with the 49ers or he’s going to be released.

There is a small chance the 49ers can get a day 3 selection for him and he works out a deal with the new team ahead of time.

But it would be a 5th round pick or later because everybody knows he’s getting released.
 
No thanks to Deebo.... availability isn't there. Cant plan around a guy that is in and out so often. He's a guy you have specific plays for, but then can't run when he's out.... has been a consistent problem in that regard for the 9ers.
 
WHEN does Deebo become an improvement for our WR room? Is a 6th round pick too much? If he is released, what value does he command that is too much or the right amount? More importantly, does he give Kliff a weapon that he can really run with and cause even more havoc? What if Deebo gets word to AP that he would play at a discount to be apart of our team? Great questions for AP, especially since he has such a history with the player.

On a side note, what other player is going to come out of the woodwork and become avail? I love the off season and our position this year. AP is going to earn his money even more this year.

I'm cool with trusting AP, but never like the idea of using all our cap space.

I trust AP to not be stupid with our cap jus because we have a franchise QB on a rookie contract.

But you are one game from the super bowl, you actually may be one or two players away, and should absolutely act like it while you can.
 
No thanks to Deebo. Gadget guy who’s lost a step. I know he’ll probably be cheap, but he’s an ‘old’ 29 whose body is giving in to years of abuse due to his his hard nosed running style. We can find better.
 
The fastest path to matching talent against the Eagles may be to load up on older veterans who can still play and will sign for relative discounts to their true value. There are plenty of high character guys that fit this in free agency out there.

Imagine if we can walk away with Mack, Moses, Zeitler, DHop and Folk on reasonable deals ($35M in base salary on 1 year deals), add a couple more guys like Stanley and Ward and bring guys like Chinn, Wagner and Ertz back.
