And what happens if he actually holds out and doesn’t play? Then he doesn’t make his salary at all. Terry doesn’t have substantive leverage.

I agree that he doesn’t have substantial leverage but he does have some leverage. I believe the team needs him on the field to get where they want to go this season.

The team should, at a minimum, guarantee this year’s salary like they did for Deebo. My guess is that it’s all moot anyway as I expect a deal to eventually get done.

I would concede that Dallas prioritized aggressive pass defense under Quinn, but Jerry Jones and company skimped big time on salary for the defense those years, especially DT. Parsons is a game wrecker as an edge rusher but too undersized to be part of a stout run defense. For the most part, I think they made chicken salad out of … something less appetizing.

Terry likes to see himself as the good solider-non-Diva type who deserves to rewarded financially for that among other things. He's not a diva on the field. And not a diva with fans. Almost perfectly classy on those fronts.

But as to contracts, he does comes off IMO like a diva. Most of the current local media seems to gloss over that this isn't round 1 of Terry holding out. But this is the 2nd regime where he's been difficult with contracts.

And look who knows maybe the team is super low balling him. But regardless, he's under contract. You don't see Micah Parsons, holding out.

Listening for example just now to Mitch Tischler talk about this say heck even if Terry wants 35-36 million a year, you got to give it to him because you don't want Terry upset. That's the type of thought just hits me silly if the premise is Terry is a non-diva. I get the sentiment from Mitch -- which as hey Terry we love you and we want you to know that. But...

As to pandering to Terry as to giving him whatever he wants. And conceding that hey Terry says he won't have a drop off at 30 plus just because he's Terry and for Terry age doesn't matter. And the idea that his good behavior if anything should be factored in what he gets, etc. All of it comes off not normal as a standard negotiation.

Someone IMO shouldn't be compensated more for being a good dude. And you can't have a player dismiss that father time won't effect him because he took a screen against the house against the Lions.

For the record (not that it suprises anyone) but Reddit is a complete cesspool in regards to delusional and incompetent fans discussing Terry.

3x years at 30M, 2 guaranteed +incentives would be my rookie GM offer. Like people have said he is under contract and than we can tag him.

I think I might offer this deal. I don't know our salary cap well enough to know if it would work.

3 year deal

Year 1- 37m all guaranteed
Year 2 -33m all guaranteed
Year 3 - 25m non-guaranteed

Yes, we are paying a major premium this year, but I think we need him this year and can be pretty sure that Terry will be the same Terry this year. Also, I think Terry deserves a "pain and suffering" bonus for being practically the only bright spot in the Rivera/Snyder years. In terms of face, Terry can point to this year and say that this shows the teams "respect." Year 2 is a minor premium, but still a salary level Terry can point to. Year 3, his payrate takes a major haircut, but at the third year he will be 33 and we will also hopefully be entertaining extending Jayden.

His side should be thrilled with 3 years 95m. If he remains the player we love he could even see it all.

In the 90s, the Skins signed WR Henry Ellard at the ripe old age of 33…he proceeded to have 1,400 yards and 6 TDs that season with Heath Shuler and Gus Frerotte throwing him the ball. He played for another 3 years after that, going over 1,000 yds the next 2 years.

Terry’s age is a non-story.

Does anyone have any idea what we may be offering vs what he wants? If we give him a 3 year fully guaranteed deal at $30MM per that has to work, otherwise Terry is nuts. Is it a longer term, does he want $35MM - $40MM per, its hard to critique until you know the details but if he wants more than $30MM per or a longer term with more than $90MM guaranteed I don't blame the FO for balking.

Individual players can buck the overwhelming statistical trend, of course. That’s why we have the phrase “the exception that proves the rule”. The problem is there’s no way to tell who the exceptions will be. HOF-bound veterans much better and more productive than Terry have fallen to the uncaring reaping scythe of time. And will continue to do so.

You saying it’s a non-story is like me saying “my uncle drunk drives home 15 miles from the bar every single night and hasn’t gotten in an accident yet. Drunk driving is a non-story”. That’s an exaggerated example of course but I hope the point is clear. Betting on outliers at top of market prices is bad business.

Maybe Terry’s body and game will age well. Maybe it won’t. But you have no idea and the statistics overwhelmingly say that production (which is already not top tier) will fall off a cliff. It’s not a coin flip, which in itself would be risky.

How much you weight that in your decision-making is certainly worth arguing about. Not weighting it at all because you’ve deemed it a “non-story”? Reckless beyond belief and honestly pretty naive. It’s the height of homerism because you have no reason to believe you’re correct except that you believe it.

I really don't think any of us do.

My guess is that Terry wants a top salary. He said he doesn't want to "reset" the market, but my gut tells me that translates to "You don't have to give me the highest salary, but I want the equal of those top salaries."

So, my guess is that he does want a Chase-like salary. He just isn't asking for more than that. I do thik if it were anywhere in the range of what we have been talking about it would have gotten done already.

His holding out really irks me. "I'm just a professional." Do you know how many times I have heard that?

"That's what everybody keeps saying. "I'm just a professional". Everybody keeps saying that to me. "I'm just a professional", "I'm just a professional". I'm getting sick and tired of hearing that. You understand?" I wish you had more time

Than show up to work pinche gringo

Pain and suffering bonus? Aw, hell no. If the team is going to hand those out…I want one.
We all deserve one.

Agree. The other factor with age is injury. You are more susceptible to it and it takes longer to overcome and you might not be the same after.

Santana Moss, the last really good WR we had pre Terry. Had a really good season at 31. then from 32-35 he was just a guy -- not the same dude. And he prides himself on being in uber shape back in the day. Look at Gary Clark pre 30 and post 30. Totally different.

Yes there are exceptions to every rule. But as you pointed out, we don't know where Terry will land on that front. Maybe he's the next Terrell Owens who still excels into his 30s, or maybe he's Odell Beckham who falls off a cliff.

Probably he ends up somewhere in between, where at 31, the first year of his new contract, he will still be the old Terry or close enough but after that he's good but nothing great but you are paying him as if hes great. Ala the Daron Payne contract.

Terry insisting that its not an issue with him -- comes off silly and self-serving to me -- at least his public version of selling it which is stressing the screen he took it to the house against the Lions. And I don't mind him being self-serving, it comes with the turf in contracts but he's taking that point so publicly and acting as if his point is so compelling. It's one play, Terry. We know you are still fast. The question is why would he defy the odds when he's 32 or whatever -- and the answer is he doesn't know that he will, no one does. So that's where the anayltics come in.

Devante Adams and Mike Evans -- 30 plus WRs, with great careers, arguably greater than Terry, didn't as far as I know have a snit about not getting paid like a 25-27 year old WRs. No drama that I can recall. No defiant, I am bigger than the age, and how dare people see otherwise. Especially in Mike Evans case -- he could equally do the Terry bit about how he's a good guy and has done a lot for the organization and should be rewarded accordingly. Heck Evans might be an even bigger Tampa legend than Terry is here. Like I said, I do think for a dude who sells himself like he's a non-diva, he is IMO acting some like a diva in this contract dispute.

The other compoent of paying a younger dude like a Garrett Wilson more, isn't just that you don't expect that post 30 decline since they are younger, you are also betting on potential. They can get even better. WRs don't tend to get better as they head deeper into their 30s to say the least.

I never thought I’d see the day where I could part with Terry. Love everything about him as a dude. I’ve watched him willfully get bludgeoned to be on the receiving end of Heinicke’s dead ducks. I’ve watched him stay long after everyone else at camp and sign/take photos with every fan he possibly could, including my son.

But…

This team holds all the cards. He’s under contract, and the franchise tag for 2026 is on the table. He’s got Jayden Daniels to throw him the ball.

I don’t know if it’s him or his agent, or even if Peters is just lowballing (which I doubt), but this ordeal is leaving a bad taste in my mouth. I get this is what happens, particularly when a team gets good. But good teams don’t pay elite money to very good WRs on a third contract.

Agreed with SIP, that this whole thing is now coming off very diva-ish. He had a great season and I understand wanting to capitalize on that. But $30M+ with a boatload of guaranteed money is not a bridge I’m willing to cross. Even for a dude as good as Terry.
