The 2025 Free Agency Thread

I’m shocked that anyone would be against the trade for Tunsil. To me this is likely the greatest heist a GM has ever pulled off for this team.

Elite left tackles are vital and don’t grow on trees. We are likely not making a top ten draft selection for the next decade. It requires a multitude of circumstances to come together to make one available via trade or FA. This comes together for us and we have folks against it. Make it make sense.

I understand reservations about our defense and how we generally look marginally worse today than we did last season. But the move for Tunsil to me is as no brainer as it gets.

Well, Jay Shroeder for Jim Lachey was pretty awesome. Not sure anything will ever beat Earnest Byner for Mike Oliphant :)

I think Sonny is the greatest trade in Skins history. And I dont think anything will ever come close to it again.

You said he’s top 10-15 and has never been elite lol. You’re definitely taking a hardline stance on this (which is fine) but imo you should watch him from the last couple years and see if you feel the same way. If you do then I’d love to read your thoughts, but I suspect you will come away questioning wtf we care about “PBWR” lol.
 
Listened to the Texans beat guy on Sheehan.

A. Really good person. Very well liked in the locker room. Voted team captain previously.

B. He's a quiet dude. Not talkative with the meda. But nice guy to deal with including with the media

C. He wants to be a part of a winning culture

D. Houston has a new o coordinator who wants to shake up the roster some especially at the O line

E. Thought Houston lost the deal or at a minimum its a tie -- needed to get a first to win it. Also the draft isn't hot at tackle, it will be difficult to replace him.

F. 2nd best pass protector in the league
 
Even if he was just top 10-15 it would be a great trade. I believe he is top 5.

That's a good one, too. I think Casserly traded too much of that away to get Champ though.

It's not that i don't agree with you about the value of a good left tackle or that tunsil is far better than what we have and that we made a good trade my one reservation is that two teams were willing to trade him.
I don't buy the salary cap thing, lots of teams have guys they need to get signed they still don't let their franchise tackle out the door, they find a way.
The Texans offensive line was real bad last year and they're blowing it up so I'm chalking it up to mostly that but it worries me they see him as part of what needs to get blown up.

Hopefully they're wrong and we're right.

Thanks for chiming in. One other aspect of it is, the hits our team is taking at other positions with the respective draft picks that were moved out, for said upgrade.

Instead of taking that stud corn fed Iowa rookie LG with that 2 rounder we moved, we end up with James Black Jr. or a Rod Milstead who came out of retirement which causes our entire OL to struggle. Doomsday unlikely scenario sure, but not out of the realm of possibilities of what can play out. There is always a weakest link. Of note, it'd be a non starter conversation with RR running the draft board.

I hope that I'm wrong. It happens a lot. We can revisit it after the season I suppose. I definitely haven't seen him play too much. I guess back when we were HC shopping and I was checking out Slowicks offense.
