Even without Jayden, Sainristil in the 2nd, Coleman in the 3rd, Newton in the 2nd, Magee in the 5th? That's looking super promising, given where the selections were made.

And, I like this year's draft class even better. I don't see any reaches, which most of us felt that Sinnott and McCaffrey were. We only had 5 picks, and in the back half of the rounds, but all 5 have made an impact in camp, all the way down to our 6th and 7th round picks. And Conerly and Amos look like 5-10 year roster anchors if they continue to pan out. The only guy that I really see not making as much impact as Medrano. And he is the epitome of an upside pick. The speed and fluidity of a WR at LB/S. If he hits, you have a pro bowler for a 6th round pick.

I'm honestly already looking forward to the 2026 draft thread, after the season!

This is just shock jock, click bate stupid stuff at the moment.

The future is entirely unclear, it's possible Daniels could be a one year wonder, regresses to the mean, and Maye, who has better size, great athleticism, and a better arm, over time becomes the better QB. Is that possible? Yes.

Is there any evidence to support it's going to happen? Not yet.

Is there some evidence to suggest all three QBs picked 1, 2 and 3 are going to end up as top 10 QBs in the league, maybe as early as next season? I'd say yes. Maybe even 4 if you include Bo Nix.

But to make any proclamations about preferring any QB from the 2024 draft over Daniels at this point is stupid.

And I say this as a guy who liked both Maye and Daniels, but actually preferred Maye in the draft. I wasn't sad or upset when they drafted Daniels, but I questioned his size and durability, and the LSU offense never had him throw over the middle of the field, and I didn't know if he had the arm to do so.

As it turns out, he has the arm to do so, he proved to me mostly durable, and his intangibles are off the chart.

Need to see more from Penix, and McCarthy hasn't played, so he doesn't qualify yet. Penix looked ok in limited action late in the season, but he has a ways to go before he could reach the top 10 QB list.

When he qualifies, he might be good, or might not be good. Have to see. He currently gets an "incomplete" grade.
 
I don’t think anyone outside of Daniels and perhaps Nix has shown consistently they have staying power in the NFL yet.

Penix and McCarthy are essentially rookie starters in 2025 and no one knows what they are capable of doing.

Chicago showed how a bad head coach could ruin a top pick’s rookie season. So expect more from CW.

Maye looks solid. But NE fans need to understand the chances of him being another Brady are very slim.

Aren’t too many 7 time Super Bowl winners around.
 
Yeah at least 2-3 of those guys are going to bust, or at best be journeyman. Very very unlikely that they all hit, or even a majority

I don't think there is any expectation Maye is going to be Brady. There shouldn't be an expectation ANYBODY is going to be Brady.

I think when you draft a guy in the top 5, the expectation is you have a top 5-10 QB at a minimum by the end of year 3. That's essentially a top 1/3 of the league starter giving some time for development. That should be the expectation for Maye. Anything better than that is gravy.

I personally want to see it again from both JD5 and Nix to confirm what we saw last year. I tend to agree with you, both are going to be top-10 QBs for a while, Daniels has the capability to be top 5 or even #1. But as a rule, a one year sample size just isn't enough to pass judgement on anything.

Finding best comparisons among college players with college EPA on sacks, dropbacks, scrambles, etc.

Normally there's nothing, but every now and then there's a dead ringer comp for play style.

In college, Caleb Williams compared well to college Russell Wilson. Likewise Drake Maye compared to college Patrick Mahones. I don't believe Jayden Daniels had a close comp (which is normal).
 
I thought Drake was supposed to be Josh Allen? Big bruiser of a mobile QB. I remember hearing a ton of Caleb William/Patrick Maholmes comps.

Those were the analyst comps, but they're just race driven. Gotta compare a bigger white QB to another bigger white QB, etc. Actual data said otherwise.

Jayden - Randall with a coach in an era that knew what to do with him.
 
Fannin is interesting. I know profile-athleticially he comes off boom-bust but he always got open in college no matter the opponent.

 
I have Njoku in fantasy. I'm going to have to pick up Fannin now. He was the focal part of their passing game and they even gave him a carry

I was a big fan of Knight in the draft. Perhaps he ends out as a DROY candidate (just under Amos!)
 
Obviously Bill won't average 8.2 ypc for the rest of the season. He's currently on pace for:
  • 170 carries, 1394 yards, 8.2ypc, 17 TD's.
That's simply not going to happen. If we drop his YPC down to 5 from 8.2 (5 is still good!), and raise his carries per game from 10 to say 14. Drop his TD rate per game by half. We get a final statline of this:
  • 234 carries, 1202 yards, 5.1ypc, 9 TD's
That's really good. If we keep carries at 14 per game but bump his production up to Clinton Portis in Denver levels we'll get:
  • 234 carries, 1314 yards, 5.6ypc, 12 TD's.
Keep in mind, Brian Robinson only had 187 carries last season or roughly 13 per game that he played. So 14 per game is a hair above what our "bellcow" got last season. Basically, Bill was so good Week 1, that even if we regress his projected stats, it's still projecting an insane season. I doubt that's sustainable and some defenses just figure out how to stop our run game with more film though.
 
I really wanted Josh Simmons in the draft and he has looked very good for KC. Conerly had better pan out, or that is going to look like a huge mistake. It’s looking like our team would be way better this year with Simmons.
