The 2025 Draft Thread

Anyone else find it really ironic that the Ravens are cutting their kicker but drafted Mike Green?

They were both ‘football decisions’.

Will harris is pretty good in that role.

I hope I'm proven wrong but I think this guy is the signing fans are overrating the most. He's a 29 year old who has had one ok season in his pro career, which he used to parlay into a multi year contract. For reference, he had a 43 PFF grade in 2023 with the Lions. He is a guy who has stuck around this long in the league because he is a good special teamer and a versatile backup (although he is not particularly good at any one position).

He is a definite downgrade from Chinn who we did sign off a down year in Carolina but who also once finished 2nd in the league in DROY voting.

We have to hope here that Owens made some strides and/or Medrano surprises everyone and takes the role in training camp. Not banking on either.

I was just referring to the enforcer role comment and harris is a hard hitting safety.
It's hard to tell sometimes when a player might be coming into their own and finding their role, when you look at dyami browns career as a whole you'd spit coffee all over your keyboard seeing the one year 10 million dollar deal he signed but look at his last 4 or 5 games and you might think it's a bargain.

I agree the expectations on harris should be kept in check but he was a 3rd round pick and it's possible he's just getting his groove.

Hate to say it, but I agree. I like that Harris has a mean streak and all, but he just doesn’t seem like an upgrade over Chinn. As with all our FA signings on D, it’s like yeah he’s ok, but there were better guys available. It feels like we went shopping at the free agency liquor store and came home with Smirnov, Jim Beam, and Cuervo. I would’ve felt better about our D if we would have grabbed at least one bottle off of the top shelf, we certainly had the cap space for it. No worries though, it’s a work in progress and I trust AP to steadily improve it over time. Offense is the more important priority anyway, and especially upfront to protect Jayden.

They used FA to create an opportunity to draft the BPA.

They spread the CPA money (mostly on D) to fill the many roster weaknesses with capable players.

Now that the draft is complete, they will focus on any remaining weaknesses.

That process began at PK. I am sure they are waiting for opportunities like that to arise at Edge, Safety and perhaps a backup Center.

I’m not sure this is the best way to grade a mock draft? The winner by this measure could have had 10 correct picks and 22 other players in the wrong round entirely.

Perhaps I am missing something but I didn’t see Jeremy Chinn make many plays in crunch time to win games in 2024.

Geez, from some here it appears we lost Troy Polamalu to the Raiders on a 2 year, $12M contract.

Let’s look at what the real difference makers at safety like Minkah Fitzpatrick make in re contract and look at what Chinn got.

Chinn received a 2 year deal averaging $6M in free agency because he is a middle of the road player, no more no less.

Agreed . . . Chinn can hit! . . . But he is not good in coverage and while he can hit, he can also miss tackles by going for the big hit instead of wrapping up. He is not some incredible safety that we are doomed without!

Chinn had a decent season.

Quan Martin IMO is better by half a peg or so. The fact that he played last season with two seperated shoulders is insane.

In the playoff game I rewatched, Quan played well. Chinn played poorly. Looking at their post season PFF scores, Quan played well, Chinn didn't.

I liked Chinn on the ES draft thread that year he came out in the draft. Ironically, Quan was one of my guys, too.

I don't think Chinn will be a big miss. I'd be cool with him coming back. But I think he's replacable.

Yep.

Chinn reminded me of LaRon Landry in how he performed.

Landry also wasn't great in coverage, and while he could tackle, he would miss a lot of tackles as well because he would always go for the big highlight hit that would get him on ESPN instead of wrapping the player up.

That tells me that Chinn, like Landry, isn't a very smart player.

I don't feel Chinn is a huge loss.

Maybe we’ve past this but I’m disappointed they didn’t bring in a rookie NT to compete with Goldman for a spot on the team. Goldman, after all, is a guy who bas stepped away from the game twice.

I get why they didn’t use a pick on me but there were options in UDFA. I wish we had brought Nazir Stackhouse to camp.

As for Will Harris, if we are going purely by PFF scores. Decent PFF score in 2022. Bad score in 2023. Decent score in 2024. Before that a bad score, and two mediocre scores. Chinn also with some mediocre scores in the past including a bad score one year against the run. Hard to always tell a narrative with PFF. Let's take Harris with his bad 2023 scores, he was still decent against the run. In 2022, when he had a decent score as a whole, it was the opposite he was better in coverage.

I haven't watched him so I don't have a personal take on him. Logan Paulsen and Mark Bullock who did watch him. If I recall correctly, both liked him, and felt he was a slight downgrade from Chinn but they get it from the money difference as to what these guys got paid as to value for this team.

Going purely based on that and PFF scores, feels like he will be an OK safety. Nothing killer. Nothing bad.

I think it was Logan who also speculated that Jonathan Jones might play some safety because he played it on occasion in NE.

Yeah Pickens toasted St. Juste last year in that big moment that turned that game

My thoughts exactly. This move makes the Amos pick even better. You HAVE to have a solid CB group in this division.

Honestly judges me towards Hendrickson again a little, but I think that ship has sailed.

The NFCE looks pretty killer again. I know Dak isn’t clutch, and Dallas sucks in the playoffs, but they are still a really talented roster with a top 12-15 QB and notching regular season wins against them is not going to be a gimme.

For perspective, there is a strong argument to be made that he is the worst projected starting safety in the division. I don't think anyone on this board is taking him over Quan/Mukuba/Blankenship/Holland/Nubin/D. Wilson/Hooker
