The 2025 Draft Thread

The reason why you see it on the returns is once he clears some defenders and has daylight he can go full speed. I have to rewatch him, I'll do it later. But off the top of my head, you'll see the speed in full force on end arounds when they give him in the ball in the backfield where again he has the space (lack of clutter) to do it.

When you catch the ball in traffic, you can't go full acceleration typically. You have to decelerate some. Stop and go. He's good at that. Tai Felton another dude who is really fast and is a good YAC guy but its not because he's at it at full speed.

But even if lets say you think he doesn't play as fast as he looks. His 40 time. And time speed in games is elite level. And 8.3 YAC makes it clear he puts it to use. So its not really a subjective call. It's clear he does play fast. And its clear that he's great at YAC.

The thing with him is similar to Felton in that for a fast guy with the potential to be a deep threat, he's not been that. Can he develop into that? But as a speed dangerous underneath guy, that looks slam dunk.

The clips you posted from the combine, no doubt, he looks fast AF there. Good mitts too and I love the measurement on them. And like you mention above, he bursts on end arounds once it clicks. Same on returns and also at WR. And I totally get your 2nd paragraph about when you can hit the gas and can’t. I get that.

The negative I see, and for sure could be wrong, is that he’s thinking too much during his routes. His route speed doesn’t look like it matches his fully committed speed. And I see a lot of notes saying he has long speed, which I’m not sure is quite right. To me it’s “fully committed” speed. I kinda see like a light switch go off at times and then it kicks. I don’t love that as a receiver trait, but perhaps it can be taught.

But it’s the 4th round. Totally fine with the pick. We need to be taking shots at WR because Terry probably has two seasons of truly elite play at best before age catches up. He should age well with his contested catches but he’s not going to be elite elite much longer.

The YAC obviously speaks to speed, but I think it also speaks to play strength. For a guy that isn’t that big, his highlights are full of him not going down with first contact. He looks physical. I wonder how good of a blocker he is.
Diidnt pay attention to his blocking. But ill warch him deeper now.

Most good YAC Wrs have some RB chops. And that definitely pertains to Lane who they do use in the backfield at times. Sort of like a fast version but less physical version of Deebo.

You can even go pony 2 back sets with him and Deebo at times. What a nightmare for defenses to deal with that and Jayden in the backfield

We are too far away to get these players.

Peters isn’t making any deals evidently even with the late rounders

We don’t have but 5 picks next year. Not much ammunition to make any trades at this point

I don’t want to go into another draft with only 5 picks again. Hopefully we fix it next year.
Gonna be tough unless we trade a player.

I'll watch him again. I like to watch games versus highlight films.

If you can return kicks for TDs, your long speed is good. Check the play on this clip, you can see him take off.

Tomorrow or Monday I plan to bump my Which way is the Needle Pointing thread.

Not every route is supposed to be run at full speed when you’re as fast as he is, it’s a matter of timing. That could explain a bit of it, compared to when he really lets loose and gears up. He had a 99th percentile separation score, which is impressive in its own way, in terms of route running

Damn, I really liked Giddens.....Tahj is next up in the RB room for me

I like Tahj, he made my guys list this year. Here are the RBs left, the ones left in bold. I ranked them based on how I like them value wise versus where I'd think they'd go

I take back what I said about Cleveland having a good draft. They did a good job stacking picks and are drafting good players, but it’s not too strategic taking two QBs and two RBs.

We need to hold onto next year picks too as the Texans own our 2nd and 4th rounders and we now stand with a 1st, 3rd, 5th, 6th and 7th. A comp pick (6th) may be coming our way too in 2026.

This team like athletic scores. He gets almost no buzz. And he's not easy to watch because his career was mostly with New Mexico, and you got to watch their full offense on youtube. I did it for some games. And I did like Croskey-Merritt. His measurables are sick. Vertical, broad. Good size for 4.45 speed. He's somewhat of a projection because his speed. There is some PFF guy forgetting whom who loves him.

The draft media seem to forget him. He's a UDFA in a lot of simulators. We've met him a bunch.

Killed it at the Shrine Bowl

I've talked about him on an off.
