The 2025 Draft Thread

I think Peters did another solid job of eliminating "glaring" needs. Because of that, I think he can draft a little more with the future in mind, but if I were to think about needs, I'd say restocking our draft picks, edge rusher, running back, and speed/Quick twitch weapons. My first choice would still be trading down though I have to admit getting Hampton intrigues me. If this really is a once in a generation running back draft, then grabbing the second best back at 29 could be exciting.

I'd add TE to the list of offensive weapons, because of the talent in this draft. If Warren gets close to 29, I'd go get him. Loveland might be there at 29.

The phrase "force multiplier" is becoming the new VM+I.
I’ve been using force multiplies for ages. Maybe it’s just catching on? Am I a trend setter? That would be a first. (It’s very consultant language stuff. We used it a lot at Deloitte.)

Agree on TE, but I doubt they go there as early. Maybe. It’s kindof like RB. If Sinnott doesn’t develop this year into something more productive, you go into 2026 with no real TE’s on the roster except for Bates, who’s more of a hybrid FB/TE.

So maybe they do target a TE.

But I’d take a better RB over a TE. I think the RB force multiplies more than a TE in this offense.

^If Skattebo was a little more physical with blocking he could fill a little of both RB and FB/TE/HB roles

If Sinnott doesn't develop and Etrz gets hurt. our offense stalls.

If Ekeler gets hurt again, other backs and now Deebo can pick up his short pass game. Brob getting hurt, turned TDs into FGs last year, so I'm not disagreeing with you.

I think 29 is going to be Pass rusher or CB, but it wouldn't surprise me if we go offense. Depends how it falls to us.

I dunno. I have no feeling of what they will do because Peter’s and Co don’t show their hand at all.

The media seems to be group thinking defense.

But that’s not based on anything.

I don’t think any media member had even a clue about either the Tunsil deal of Kinlaw. I didn’t hear them attached to either. I don’t think they were attached to Harris or Jones either. The stuff just happened and then Schefter reported it and it was out without a lot of preamble. The one guy where there was some smoke was Deebo.

It’s nice to have a FO that knows how to keep what they are actually thinking out of the media.

Keim even said last year it was pretty obvious the second overall pick and who it was going to be, and this year they really know nothing and are speculating. Part of that is where the pick is, part of it is trading down, and part is because the only people who know what Peters is thinking are probably Peters, Quinn and Newmark.

Not sure what there is to concur on. Where did I question Henderson's pass protect? Saying Hampton is really good at it didn't mean by extension that Henderson is not.

Hampton is a #1 back. Plan and simple. He can be your featured back. I love Henderson. I haven't criticized him once on this thread. Heck am probably one of the only ones here who would be delighted if they took him at 29. But Henderson is clearly a back by committee guy. I am not on an island on this. Hampton is a stud #1 back -- no committee needed.

LOL, I think you misinterpreted my comment. I was agreeing to your thoughts about Hampton as being RB#1. He has the stuff for sure.

I’m maybe not as down on Robinson as some others, but one (kind of random) small thing that’s been a lowkey game changer is how often the ankle tackles bring him down. Sometimes he’d have gained a handful more yards, sometimes he’s about to be in the clear and who knows how far he takes it.

Or maybe not so lowkey given how many yards are left on the field (and subsequently the ypc).

I really would like to know where Peters, Quinn and Johnson place Coleman and Wiley in the mix on the OL.

That and what Quinn/Whitt think of the revamped secondary with Lattimore, Jones, and Harris replacing guys from 2024.

That would help with visibility into who we might draft and when.

I think they realize Coleman is an OG in the NFL whose limitations can't be mitigated enough to go forward hence the trade for Tunsil. But, that left side of our OL should be dominant because Coleman can be a helluva good Guard IMO.

What are Coleman's limitations? Cause he's got the prototypical OT body. He can move. I think you keep him at RT and develop that potential.

I think this forum has kind of gotten into an echo chamber of writing off Coleman. His pass protection stats in the second half of the season matched high profile 1st round OTs that flashed and developed. Nothing is guaranteed, but he had a good rookie season, way above expectations, and we should be happy he could become a good RT.

Personally, I’m happy for him to compete at RT and I think he could become a good one with time. Not just normal developmental time/experience, but in terms of also having to make the transition to the right (I don’t believe he’s really played on that side, IIRC?). But I’m also confident he could be a stud at guard. So it kind of comes down to whether we draft an OL, at which position, and how soon they’re ready to complete/play.
Maybe an odd take(?), but while I’d like to have a capable RT at minimum, I even more so want to have a really good IOL due to how much that group effects 2nd level run blocking, as well as giving Daniels a pocket (to step up into).

RAS is an imperfect measuring tool (Craig and Logan did a nice explanation on it from their mailbag the other day) but these are very nice numbers. Don't love the 3-cone, and I wish we could get info on squats from RBs since that's an important stat for them, but overall a nice potential option.

On Coleman, he might just be more valuable at G next year for us with Cosmi out half the year. Pending what happens in the draft, I think the thinking is Tunsil-Coleman-Biadasz gives you a great left side of the line and being next to two high IQ players in Tunsil and Biadasz who can both help point out blitzers and such will help Coleman out greatly as a younger player and he could perhaps become a high end guard. If I’m Coleman, I’m happy about that as I’m probably looking at a $20M/yr deal in a few years if I become a higher end guard.

In Allegretti and Wylie, I think the right side of the line will just have to hold up until Cosmi is back

I think the draft has some interesting developmental tackles like Belton and Travis who could become better starting RTs than Wylie with some seasoning.

I liked him coming out - had him ranked 9th at OT I believe. The team would not have made the Tunsil move if they felt if he was their LT of the foreseeable future so there is some limitations they must see. I'm not knocking him personally. A move to RT is an interesting proposition though I agree.

I was actually thinking that Wylie might make sense to move in to RG. The biggest issue I've seen with him is that he can be really susceptible in space, especially to inside-out or outside-in moves, where he can get caught flat-footed. So I think with less space to worry about at RG he might actually be pretty good. Coleman has much more athleticism than Wylie, so I think RT could make sense for him if he can learn to play on the right side. Coleman's biggest issue was keeping up with big time speed guys, which he wouldn't have to do as much on the right side.

I was just looking at the Yahoo mock draft which has 2 round (you can find it in the breaking news forum!) and I noticed something interesting:

They have Cleveland picking Jaxon Dart with the 33rd pick.

If you are a team picking a QB in the first 5-10 picks of the second round, you should trade up to the last 2-3 picks of the first round just to get the 5th year option.

if that is what Cleveland wants to do, we should offer 29 and move back 4 spots. Might not get a haul, but could pick up a mid round pick. Based on a coupe draft trade calculators, it’s probably the equivalent of a late 4th, early 5th.

I’d be down with that and that would make a ton of sense for Cleveland.
