The 2025 Draft Thread

Kiper’s mock today which he did a podcast on, its not published yet had us with Shemar Stewart.

Yeah I was watching the QB school guy talk about this as to QBs. He goes he knows a lot of these QBs personally, and many of them don't really work that hard in the off season to work on their weaknesses. So he values QBs that he knows are hard workers because its far from a given. This is me paraphrasing him.
It’s incredible to me that given how short a pro career is people who stand to make generational type wealth by putting in extra work to improve themselves and secure $30M+ a year contracts are not putting the time in.

Point was made earlier but guys like Brady and Manning were wired differently. Physical talent only takes you so far - you reach a level when everyone is talented, what separates is what’s between your ears.

One of my favs took him in the boards draft

Undersized like Stewart but is a handful to deal with. I prefer Stewart but Walker could be fun, too. Had a great Senior Bowl week.

He’s the one Jeremy Green had pegged for us because of Quinn’s ability to find a hybrid sort of role for him, right? I’m curious how you think that would work with Luvu in the fold…

Conerly is getting a lot of attention from them. Riley, too. Gordon is one of the only RBs i havent watched, need to get to him soon.

It seems like there has been, A LOT of smoke around Conerly. Anthony Belton also coming in for the group visit.

They are definitely looking for a RT upgrade, which makes me happy. If we have solid book end tackles and Coleman, Allagrettj, Cosmi and Nate Herbig competing at guard, we should be super solid across the OL.

Suggests Coleman might move inside to LG, Wylie and Allegretti compete to play RG until Cosmi is ready to play. Rookie plays RT.

Nope that was J. Walker. Stewart is a monster athlete for his size at DE.

The Stewart stuff is still weird to me. Sure, the guy is a great athlete for his size, but there's nothing special about him when it comes to actually playing the position. His stats are awful, sacks as well as TFL. I watched "highlights" of him, and they're mostly just him being a guy involved in a defensive line; there's nothing that pops, though he does seem to have a good first step. He's a good but not great run stopper and an underwhelming pass rusher. I'm at a loss as to why he's so popular in some parts. I guess it must be his pure physical attributes.

Stewart, Scourton, and Williams all fall into the "their production was mediocre but they're balls of potential and athleticism and if anyone can turn them into NFL studs it's Dan Quinn and Joe Whitt Jr." category.

Stewart didn't have mediocre production, he had borderline nonexistent production. 4.5 sacks and 12 TFL....over 3 seasons of play. Scourton is a guy with "mediocre" production: 17 sacks and 31 TFL over 3 seasons.

A physical specimen with such horrible production is a guy that teams would usually look to pick up in the mid to late rounds, not in the 1st. And like I said, in watching him I still don't see much other than a JAG who happens to be very athletic.

Yeah is a physical freak that I'd say either has not had good coaching or something doesn't click. On his behalf, stats wise, last year he did have 39 pressures which is a big number.

Walker would be a nice add if they can't get an edge in the first couple rounds. He feels like a guy this staff would enjoy to work with and give us the specialist we need

I am pretty high on Stewart. He is the freakest athlete of the bunch. To me he is a bit like a Travon Walker. He has a decent floor as a DE2 on a team because he is a good run defender. He had a 88.2 PFF run defense grade last year which is probably the highest of the bunch of the guy who could be available at 29. His sack production was low, but his pressure production which is much more sticky stat was okay. He had 39 pressures. That was higher than his teammate Nick Scourton (likely late first or second round pick) who had 36 pressures (in fairness Scourton PFF pass rush grade was significantly higher 80.6 compared to 67.2) and projected 3rd round DT Shamar Turner who had 21 pressures. So he was on a D-Line with two other players who will likely go in the top 100 this year and he lead the team in pressures.

He also played the 4i a lot (lined up between the Guard and Turner) so he had to rush more like a DT than a DE because there is no threat of that speed rush on the edge when you are playing inside. Scourton had to play the same way which is why he went from like 11 sacks sat Purdue in 2023 to 4 sacks at Texas A&M in 2024. In college where O-Lineman are allowed to get three yards downfield on pass plays (Instead of one), can get downfield unlimited yards if ball is thrown behind the line of scrimmage, teams are just so afraid of the RPO (because they don't find out if it is run or pass as soon as the NFL because the O-Line is allowed to get further down field without a penalty) so by putting the DE's in 4i alignment they defend the inside zone better simply by the alignment and they make it easier to drop the DE in coverage and to trick the offense. But it makes a lot harder to pass rush from that alignment. At this point Stewart is mostly a bull rusher so he condenses the pocket, which is going to help other guys get sack but is not always conducive to him getting sacks. He does need to add more finese moves but he is guy who will collapse the pocket while maintaining lane integrity. I see him as a high floor lottery ticket. I would not be excited to get him with a top 10 pick, but I would be very happy to get him at 29. To get a player who weighed 267 pounds at the combine with longish arms (34.5 inches) who ran in the 4.5s (at the combine, not even a pro day where guys tend to be slightly faster) is a nice lottery ticket. Odds that the lottery ticket hits are unlikely (maybe 15%), but I think his power pass rush profile of collapsing the pocket will translate and he is probably the best run defender of the guys who will be available at 29 so I think his floor is solid.

Riley with a formal Combine mtg and now a visit. Interest in Hairston is new though, AFAIR. Adding him to meeting Amos at the combine, I wonder if they might end up seeing corner as a better option than edge at 29 (or after a small trade back), particularly knowing there should be some interesting edges at 61 or into the 3rd+.

The one thing we don't know though is did they met with him at the combine. By my count there are about 20 meetings and chnage that happened at the combine that we don't know about.

If Keim is saying there has been interest through the process in Hairston, am guessing it means they met him at the combine.
