Why can't we run the ball?

I think the Elephant is in the room folks. Teams are blitzing the FUCK out of us because they dont have a better solution on how to stop Commander Jayden Daniels. Our OL injuries, rookie at LT?? makes them blitz that much more

Can we get some PFF stats on what QB or team has faced the highest blitz rate. I heard someone on ESPN said Todd Blows blitzed the hell out of us last night.

Sure CRod or Ekeler may come in look better in their few snaps but its normal - we have all seen for years a different back comes in and its a curveball for defenses. And yes I do think BRob is slowed by injuries this year but I trust coaches not starting CRod over him. Look at all they have accomplished - we should have no choice but to trust them on this one.

The other thing we are seeing is the absence of the 6'2 215 Noah Brown on the field as one of the better blocking wideouts in the game and Zack Ertz suffering the shoulder injury that has compromised his ability as an inline blocker.

If Ben Sinnott had been able to come in and be a functional TE and effective blocker that would have mitigated some of the decline on the edge.

But the injuries to the OL are important here.

People can point to guys like Trey Smith and Tristan Wirfs that have played with injuries during the season but these guys are among the best at their positions in the NFL.

A guy like Smith or Wirfs playing at 80% is still better than most of the DL they are going to face.

Here in Washington we were getting good team blocking early on but across the front five, we don't have any pro bowl caliber players.

For our guys if they are 75-80% they just can't effectively compete because they are not superior athletes and technicians.

It's like years ago fans of other teams were amazed that John Riggins could be in the hospital in mid-week and then go out and run for 100 yards on Sunday while their backs couldn't do that.

Some guys have a lot of talent and the ability to play through pain at a high level due to their pedigree.

Me too. I think the fact they still had Robinson starting and trying to get him a few carries early on, while leaving Rodriguez inactive tells.us, all things considered, they don't think Rodriguez would have fared any better.

I think they’re beaten up with little depth. I think they said yesterday that Coleman was playing with a knee brace on. That plus BRob isn’t right. And we’re now playing teams which have both a wealth of scouting tape on us AND are playoff calibre defenses. I think playing as a cohesive team papers over our lack of talent in some areas, but the paper is peeling over this one.
I don’t think it’s fixable this season. We need oline depth and a stud RB in the off season.
 
In the history of the NFL there have been 3 games with a rookie at QB where the team had no turnovers, no punts and won the game.

JD is the QB of all 3 of those games. He is remarkable. He is humble yet confident. We are incredibly lucky we were able to get him here.

That's not to say this offensive line has the capability to dominate DLs in the playoffs.

But to my eye you would have to have a running back like Jahmyr Gibbs or Barkley to run behind this group RIGHT NOW and be productive as these backs can take the slightest crease and use their quickness to be at the second level.

Rodriguez and McNichols are not faster or quicker backs than Robinson. Ekeler 3 or 4 years ago could have done it.

But at 29 he's no longer a full-time rusher.

yeah . . . BRob looked extremely slow and to have developed cataracts in both eyes as whatever little hole is there he missed most every time. McNichols is too hesitant. Eckler, even though he is up there a bit, showed a TON more burst. For now I'd like to see Eckler used more and Rodriguez sprinkled in as he can shed tackles, another thing BRob used to be able to do and can't right now. I think we should IR BRob.
 
BRobinson is useless right now. He isn’t a strong pass blocker…. he isn’t running hard through the LOS… he’s running directly into the back of his linemen. He’s not breaking tackles. He’s not falling forward when going down. He doesn’t have the speed to get outside. He was in space multiple times last night… and he can’t juke anyone and he ran directly into the defenders to minimize every opportunity.

Our offense is pretty predictable right now. I almost completely called every offensive play last night.

I know ppl are saying that going for it on 4th down is in our DNA. Half truth. The team has only done it 23 times the whole season. That’s not Dan Campbell level by any means. And it’s missing lots of context. The team never went for it inside their own 50. They did so mostly inside the opponent 50-30 yard line… to get in DECENT/close field goal range (depending on the confidence of the kicker) and avoid punting with only a net gain for 20 yards of field position. Also, when it’s 4th and goal. That’s totally understandable from time to time. What this team NEVER did was going for it on 4th down when they were in EASY/Short (<40 yards chip shots) field goal range… give up points to go TD or bust. Sorry, no, that’s never been Quinn’s MO.

And some of those 4th downs were 5+ yards… those are much riskier than 1-2 tush pushes. Or FG attempts less than 40 yards. Especially against the #4 rush defense in the NFL that was shutting down our run game and dominating the LOS.

We won. Everything’s great. House money. Year 1. Karmic energy.

All true. So let’s not self-sabotage it either with poor decisions. Let’s see how far we can take this… without having to out it all on Daniels to overcome everything.
 
I think in recent years, I've fallen off on goofing around on Redskins boards. The blues just don't lead to humor (other than gallows humor). In recent weeks, I've been kidding around, joking, and teasing my fellow fans. I think that means I don't feel like we're all in an ER on life support and can take a little ribbing.

I also think the lack of running game is showing up on a lot of the 3rd/4th down runs Jayden Daniels is attempting to convert by hitting the corner to the right side. Defenses seem to be keen on the fact that they don't have to use as many resources to stop the RB so they keep more focus on Jayden all the way through the completion of the play. Earlier in the season when B-Rob was going for 4-5 yards on 1st down, it made stopping JD5 on 3rd and short nearly impossible, where as now you see defenses anticipating that Jayden keeping it is a 100% proposition. It continues to be super impressive what Jayden Daniels is doing given that defenses understand there isn't a whole lot else they need to game plan for against this offense besides Terry.

Oddly, I was kind of opposite at the end. I think I said it in the chat, but I never doubted for a moment that JD would take us downfield to score. And when we got there and we were lining up the FG, in my head I was thinking 'Even if Gonzo misses this, JD will get them in OT." I also remember thinking 'Is this how it feels to be a Kansas City Chiefs fan? Having faith that Mahomes will do something magical?"

I think my brain is slowly turning the corner on this team now.

I never thought we would not win when we got it with 440 left. JD is a stone cold killer. But damn can we win games like we were early in the season by wide margins

I am somewhat like that. I am sick in bed during the game and run 100 yards through the hospital midweek.

This is the playoffs, man. Unlike the early season, everyone earned the right to be here.
