Tell the Truth Monday- Playoff Edition

My truth…I was very disappointed in the effort displayed yesterday. I didn’t feel like there was much, if any, motivation displayed except by Mariotta. If someone unaware watched that game, I find it hard to believe that they would come to any conclusion that Dallas wasn’t the team with something to prove or to play for.

Yesterday’s game, to me, was all about building momentum and improving execution heading into the tournament and they didn’t do that. At all.

I've been saying this for years and get laughed at.

People like to tell me the people in the desert know. I point out 1/3 of the teams every year miss their over/under by 4+ games. Either higher or lower. The thing is, you never know which teams it's going to be.

This league is hard enough to predict week to week in season. Figuring out what opponents going to go look like next year, before draft and free agency, training camp, injuries.... you'd have better luck teaching a horse to tap dance.
 
It feels to me like if the D or the O begins a game poorly, I takes a while before adjustments are placed. On a good note, they adjust better than what we have been accustomed to over thee past few regimes efforts.
 
I agree with Chris that it looked like the guys were going through the motions early in the game. But I will say that they have gotten off to a lot of slow starts this year. And they have adjusted fantastically. So seeing what they did yesterday was no real surprise.
 
My truth is we are a good team that is well run. It’s nice saying that. We lack talent but our guys have gave enough effort to get to 12-5. A lot of teams that get to the playoffs and even Super Bowls get lucky bounces all season. We have had luck on our side. This could be the year and it may not, but it’s been a fun ride.

Look at the Chiefs. They’ve had lucky bounces all season. That offense isn’t humming like an Andy Reid offense usually does. But that defense is nasty and that’s why they have a first rd bye and are considered Super Bowl contenders.

One thing I can’t shake is the fact we look unmotivated at times. I feel that comes down to coaching and lazy players.

If we come out flat against Tampa in the playoffs a lot of players are going to be finding new homes. These guys really need to motivate themselves and making the playoffs the first year in a rebuild should have them salivating. I saw way too many players jogging or looking like they were just going through the motions yesterday.

I don’t know how a man is unmotivated when going against a dude across from them. If I were to fight someone there’s a good chance that I am beaten. At least that person is going to know they were in a fight with me. I don’t know how players don’t have this mentality. I’d feel like a wuss getting pushed around like Payne did yesterday.

I don’t know how guys like Payne, who could be one of the best DTs out there, aren’t motivated after so many losing seasons. Aren’t you just salivating at the chance to get to the Super Bowl? Is that not the goal? Having a chance to get to the playoffs and possibly the Super Bowl should motivate every player to kick as much ass as possible.
 
My telling the truth Monday.

1) Glad we aren’t playing the Eagles in the WC

2) Glad we aren’t playing the Rams in the WC

3) A bit concerned playing the Bucs Sunday even more so about the match up with Mike Evans and Will Lattimore be out there and even if he is can or will he be 100% and Mayfield can be very deadly and silently destroy a team fast, and at times the offenses slow start and our lack of any running game outside of Jayden Daniels, I think the further this team goes (if they get past the Bucs) the flaws of our running game and our really bad secondary will get exposed by the top 3 teams and the Rams of whichever of those teams goes deep into the playoffs.

Payne got lazy when he got paid..the defense doesn't fly to the ball,they wait for the ball carrier to get to them..Another thing that I notice is some of the players just half ass it and expect other guys to make tackles.defense plays slow also

Yeah, I saw Percy Butler jog to a play to make a tackle. He was the first on the scene, but instead of a 2-3 yd gain, they got like 8. It pissed me off. Saw Payne just stand there while other people were trying to make a tackle. He could have helped. Don’t know how everyone wants to play for Dan Quinn and then they give effort like that, especially when playoff seeding is on the line
 
My truth this Monday is simple. We just don't match up well vs Dallas. On multiple fronts. The familiarity of the coaching staffs, the key player match ups, the Dline speed and obviously Parsons is a nightmare and a focus. Then they threw in a running QB. If I were them, I would of run him forever vs us, but they let him throw or he decided to throw....either way it worked out for us. Dallas did a great job of hitting our pressure points in the 1st half. I am not going to get into those details but I know our coaching staff was frustrated as some of the concepts we're relying on just didn't work and forced our hand. Each and every game is different and brings about a new wrinkle we have to adapt to.

Honestly, being our 1st year with everyone, I am floored at our success rate with what is a meal that doesn't have all the ingredients in it. It doesn't taste good or even smell right but its edible. I'll take it. And to put a very blunt....in coaching, you have one goal. Period. WIN. Everybody on the outside will complain and nit pick, but when you have your team believing they can win with whatever adversity shows up on the field....your in a fantastic position. And to carry on with the analogy, we don't have a chance to go to the store and get the ingredients we're missing....so we better make due with whats in the pantry.

Side note.....I absolutely agree with pulling Jedi5 at half. Not the same of course, but have been in a situation knowing the playoffs were coming and my key player came off the field just not right...we knew he was going to be major factor the rest of the game and the game was not more important than having him the next game so we pulled him.

I for one, do not question our guys effort on the field. This is incredibly taxing on just a young still forming team. All things are on the table for us to experience and learn from.

Also wanted to say that one thing I am noticing that we as fans of the Commanders just aren't used to....teams want to beat us and that motivation and extra play of bringing their A game to the field....its new to us as fans watching and we are still finding a way to win. Just fired up at what we can do.

The amount of money that Allen and Payne are making, they should be producing better than what they are.They need to ship both those guys out.Payne will be hard to get rid of unless they find a trade partner..

Kyle Shanahan has been very eager to trade/sign ex-'skins players. We should send them Payne for a third.

I would trade him and a 7th round pick to a team to take over his contract.

And just ask the Bears fans about tough losses, a Hail Mary is about as tough as it gets. We won more than our share on last second TDs. I don't see that happening again. But we also will be a better team next season. I look forward to a long run of seasons where we are contenders, we're just getting started.

Also true: the best teams find a way to win even the games they have no right winning. Give this team even the smallest window of opportunity and they'll try like hell to steal a victory. More often than not this season they've succeeded. More fool any opponent who is not wary of this.

I've enjoyed this season more than any other in my adult life. Whatever happens in the playoffs, it was a fun ride.

I like to think Adam Peters has been taking notes all season and knows exactly where he is going to trim the fat this off season.
