Team name...Post it all here

I wish they would strongly consider just throwing things back to their roots. This franchise was born as the Braves, we know that Braves has survived the PC police in other sports, so why not just settle there? I wouldn't *love* it as someone who grew up loving the Redskins name, but at least it would have a historical tie back to the nearly 90 years of history.

By the way, I'm an ES transplant also - happy to be here!

I will maintain that the real reason the name got changed was so Snyder could avoid Epstein levels of press. "Anti-marketing". Snyder was a marketing expert, conspiracies are the norm in business, and the sports press isn't like Ronan Farrow, who has Ivy backup and some clout to immunize himself.

Like it or not, humans are fallacy machines, and a comical name like Washington Football Team leads people to simply dismiss anything going on with the team as trivial when it objectively isn't trivial.

We're never getting back to Redskins, sadly, and it's clear Harris is just going to let it die because everyone who cares is old. Even I'm 35 and go back only to 1998, and unlike many of you, it's been sporadic, so I missed Gibbs 2.0. The Commanders will be the vanilla team once again. A noise maker with some success; just a sports team now.
 
If we ever go to Redwolves i would like to see this W make an appearance or something similar.

With the clinching of a playoff spot and the real possibility of competitive/winning postseason play ahead, I am very curious how branding will be addressed this offseason.

I hope that individual seasons (or even stretches of winning or losing) doesn't impact the longer-term/higher-level goal of branding this team in the best way possible.
 
I have zero doubt that Harris and Company know how most fans feel about the name. Whether they elect to do something about it - that’s the open question.

If they choose to do nothing, they do it knowing damned well it’s not what the majority of fans want.

Yep. I also believe on-field performance won't factor too much into the decision like it might have with the previous regime. Under Snyder, it's pretty clear that he would use off-field news to distract from on-field struggles. I'm sure he would also try to capitalize on the rare successful winning seasons. I don't see Harris as being short-sighted like that. I feel like he will opt to rebrand or not rebrand based on the merits of the decision itself.
 
Along those lines, I saw Major Tuddy get more air time last night than before. Must have seen him like 4 or 5 times as he was placed behind the end zone. Not saying I am a fan of the pig, his name or WWI style helmet but just an observation. Even if the name change does not come next year, I pray to all that is holy, the uniforms are completely revamped.

Same here. I've just heard too many times that there's a chance it'll stay if they, for example, reach the conference championship game. It just makes me nervous when it comes from people like Sheehan, as I know he's plugged in.

I think this offseason is hell or high water that they address this issue instead of the roundabout answers they've given thus far.

This is genuinely on the minds of thousands of fans, and they can walk & chew gum at the same time (especially now that they have a dedicated President running the business side of the house).

This has been the case so far, and I hope HOG maintains this no matter how successful they are. They seem grounded with the fanbase and it helps that several of them were fans of the team growing up as well.

Amen to this. It's one thing to completely butcher the name (and the process of how it was formed), but the way the uniforms were altered completed the assassination of our identity.

The white ones make me cringe.

I've never been a big mascot fan but as far as stupid ugly mascots go major tuddy actually isn't that bad.
I think he's poorly received because he's both new and a product of the past regime that will obviously never be looked kindly upon.
If we had major tuddy through the glory years he'd probably be a legend.
Meanwhile if snyders new mascot was grown bearded men who dress in drag and wear pig snouts well I probably don't need to tell you how that would go over.
 
For me I would still prefer a different name. I know we can do better. With that said, the current brand has elements that are good enough to build upon.

I like the W logo, I have since the beginning, but it could be tweaked even further. I do not like them wearing all the same color uniforms, somebody else said it and I agree it looks like pajamas to me. I would love to see the standard home uniform be the burgundy jersey with the gold pants. Another good option I think would be the black jersey with the burgundy pants. I really don't care for the White jersey. I think it looks entirely too much like the Cardinals. I'm not a fan of the lines on either side of the name Commanders. I know why they did it, it's to represent D.C. but I just don't care for that look.

I very much like the gothic style font they are using this season. They need to continue to do that, and I would like to see more merchandise for sale with the Raise Hail banner.
 
and Major Tuddy is for the kids, and he is growing on me also. (I'm a big kid at heart) He wears the classic uniform and is a throwback to the Hogs. What is not to like about that?
 
I feel like there’s two options here. With the infield success probably driving in a wave of new fans (probably of JD5 as much as the team itself!) you have to feel like either:

A) people are starting to accept the new identity. The Commanders name is here to stay. Best we can hope for is some tweaks to the uniforms and general branding. Or…

B) strike while the iron is hot and rebrand now. Cash in on the new found wave of enthusitfor the team and make a killing in new merch.

I tend to think A is the direction the team will take.

I’m on record as disliking the name. Put me in the Redwolves camp.

And I HATE the W logo. Every time I look at it I just feel like it’s lazy design. Is it innocuous? Yeah. Is it imaginative and inspiring? Nope. We went from having one of the coolest logos in the league, to a W. Went from artwork to typeface. And it’s not even that different from the W we used during our WFT year. I hate to think how much the team paid a design firm for that. (Though knowing Snyder he did it himself on a napkin and then charged the team $1m for it!)

The uniforms are a mess. I hate the white. The burgundy is perhaps the closest to our old uniforms, but is more cheap imitation that cool new style. And while I love the black jerseys, they just aren’t our colours.

Things I do like? I like the ‘Raise Hail’ branding and the gothic typeface. That stuff looks cool. I like the ‘crest/shield’ thing now they’ve got the dates right on it. I like the satin finish in the helmets, thought still wish they’d go back to the yellow/gold facemasks. I’m cool with the Major. At least he dresses the part 😝

I’d honestly like to see us rebrand Redwolves, revert to our old uniforms/helmets with a logo that is artwork again, rather than some generic typeface. Give my a Red Wolf howling infront of a moon. That’ll kind of homage/mimic the old logo and look awesome.

I know many won’t agree with this, but the name “Redskins” is just plain toxic at this point. The new ownership would do well to steer clear of taking any position on that name other than “it’s not coming back.”They should not speak out for the name or against it.

The logo is another matter….although I will add no new brand is ever going to be fully accepted here until people accept the winds changed. For many it’s going to take years if ever.
 
It's almost impossible to go back. The most frustrating thing was that the people who's voice should have mattered on this issue (the Native American voice) was largely ignored. That said, though I never thought the name needed changing I think it actually might be harmful if we went back. If the NFL and the government and all the talking heads declared "We are changing this name because it is offensive and hurtful" then that becomes its reality. To go back is to say, I don't care if it's offensive and hurtful because fans like it. You just can't go, "Oops! We screwed it" up even though the reality is that they screwed it up."

I would be up for one more rebrand though. As I've stated, I like Werewolves. It's got the aliteration thing, you could make a bad arse logo, and the idea of hearing the whole stadium howl would be cool. Plus, I floated it to some teenagers and they went nuts for it.

Plus, going with Peters and Quinn's idea of draft labeling their plus players... it would be fun to learn who the alpha wolves on their board would be :)
