Team name...Post it all here

I’m hoping behind the scenes a rebrand has been in full swing for awhile and hits this offseason. Wolves, Redwolves would be my choice. Be nice not to hear about it and bam it happens.

I like "Pigskins" personally. Double whammy that we could still use "Hogs" and "Skins". Poking around the google machine I saw some cool concept art and old-timey uniforms designs.

Second choice? Jackalopes.

I think that's a great point Bob. Thing is, the new ownership group has been 'all over it' from day 1. I am not going to lie, Josh Harris in particular disappointed me with his dismissive comments whenever asked about the name. But I do hold out hope that while he may not want to answer questions about the team name, it doesn't absolutely mean he is in favor of keeping it or isn't working behind the scenes with a plan to change it. We will know before much longer.

Also, the "Chiefs" hypocrisy just makes my head hurt. Clearly the reason that organization isn't getting the flack ours did is due to the sustained success. Makes things read more than a little hollow.

I think the only reason the Redskins got all that heat about the name was because of how Snyder addressed it and also how he treated everyone, including his partners who own FedEx.

It's really the main reason that I want the name changed again. He cost us our name, 25 years of ineptitude, embarrassment, etc.

He shouldn't also get to choose the name we are stuck with for eternity.

I still believe the NFL was actually 'behind' a lot of the name change, because they knew that was going to be a MAJOR domino in getting Snyder out without ever having to take it to an owner's vote. If events took place to get Snyder to change the name, his likelihood of being able to be convinced to let it go would go up greatly.

Whenever someone would take umbrage with me for the team name, my standard reply was: Have you ever heard anyone use the word “redskins” in a derogatory manner? Now, have you ever heard someone use the word “chief” in a derogatory manner?

My father-in-law called the manager at an Indian restaurant "chief" and claimed he was giving the guy a promotion....

We used Chief like the term Boss in the military...also with Warrant Officers

RedWolves or Wolves HAVE to be the answer.

The nuance to this conversation is the MASSIVE fan contingent that has no ties to the DMV and only became a fan because of the Native American connection. That's my personal story as well, and the only reason I became a Redskins fan.

And while I agree you can't go back to Redskins itself because there will always be controversy there, RedWolves or Wolves is the perfect solution. In Native American culture, it's said that when we die, our spirit often comes back in the form of a wolf. So it's the perfect nod to the NA heritage to kill off the old branding once and for all and come back in the form of a wolf.

Please, Josh Harris and company. Get it done this offseason and take this new era to places we'd never dream possible just a few short years ago.

Imagine, this happens AND they announce a return to RFK?!? And we've got JD5 to build around with the best GM in the game? Holy moly.

Hail.

I don't believe the name is changing any time soon--if ever. Something Harris said (along with the old name is never coming back, which the Name Nuts on X refuse to let go of) when he last spoke about the name: they're looking to unite the fanbase. A name search did nothing but cause chaos--the most popular that I saw (Redwolves, which was my choice as well), was reviled by 40% of the fans. The way I take that: they're going to let the name be on focus on what really unites everyone: winning. And so far, it's working--I've not seen so much commanders gear out and about in years. It feels good to be able wear hats, shirts, hoodies again. That's better than any name,
I don't se the name changing for one simple reason: Christmas. Any minutes now everybody's kids, nieces, and nephews will be turning in their Christmas wish lists and those are going to include JD5 jerseys, Commanders caps, hoodies, t-shists, etc. As I posted on another site, it's time for the next generation to establish their own history and traditions.

I get that KW, but wouldn't that be true regardless of what the team name was? Jayden is a phenomenon - he's going to be incredibly marketable going forward. I think the biggest issue with 'Commanders' is that the potential for swag and themed-gear sucks. No one knows what it means or represents beyond some vague military idea. The gear the team has produced is mostly lame and unimaginative. Good lord - I was in the DMV for the Bears game and stopped at a sporting goods store. The gear was SO bad I walked out without buying a thing.

You give the team a more exciting name and the swag potential goes through the roof.

Redwolves is definitely the answer. I've said it before. Go back to the Uniforms of the late 80's early 90's and just change the face to a wolf and the feather to a tail and you get to honor native American culture and our history.

I think it happens this offseason, because we're going to be legit contenders next season and no way it changes after we win a SB.

We're doing a major renovation this offseason and it would be the best time to do it. I also think an RFK site deal gets done now that the election is over.

It can be one big announcement that steals all the attention during the offseason dead zone and erases the last 30 awful years of bad ownership, at a time fandom is the highest it's been in a very long time and completes the flushing of the Snyder era commodes, like a giant broken poo pipe.

Think of it this way. It's generally appreciated when a coach has a player's back and doesn't throw them under the bus. We don't publicly want the coach to badmouth your own, right? Well, the name is part of the team and until its replaced, the job of the team is to support it. After all, they don't want to do anything to suppress positive feelings about the team and they don't want to tell the fanbase not to buy their stuff. So, just like with a coach who's forced into starting a lousy player, Harris has to publicly stand behind the team name. He can be gently critical of it and hint that in future seasons they're always looking to upgrade, but for now, the name is the name and so he's doing what he has to do.

For the rest of us, we have a choice. I'll still sing HTTR and say Washington for the most part. I probably will stick to wearing my 'skins caps and jerseys, too, but if someone else wants to sport Commanders' gear, well they're part of the family and I'll support that too.

Howl to the Werewolves!
Howl for victory.

I think you are very, very on to something. ;)
