Jon Jansen ?
Also, a 2nd round pick....
And started from day one, and all 18 games his rookie season including 2 playoff games.
Fear, are you talking about 5th round prospect Justin Britt? McD5 made a post earlier eluding to why we didnt spend a 2nd rounder on him and that was literally the only name i've seen dropped in this thread as an available O-Lineman.
That's one.
It might be illuminating to look at first and second round linemen picked across the league over the last say, 10 years. I'd be curious to see what percentage started from day one. And on what kind of teams.
Yes, and it amazes me how so many people put so much weight and significance into a “draft projection”, as if they were gospel, etched in stone, when they are merely opinions, flawed, over-rated, and so frequently proven to be wrong.
God forbid a team draft a player in the 2nd round, who proves to be 2nd-round-worthy, despite some outsider saying he is only worth a 4th rounder.
If the facts and reality is that a player proves to be worth a 2nd rounder, but an opinion states he is only worth a 4th or 5th, why continue to trump facts/reality, with opinion ? We don't do that in any other scenario with opinions.
I agree, and hope to find the time to "illuminate" myself !
I have a novel idea...why not trade our #2 for a RT that could start in the NFL. Are there no back ups around the league worth trading for a #2?
No, the problem is that the FO believes RTs aren't worthy of high picks. Funny, but loads of other teams use high picks for offensive tackles all the time.
Anyone...and, I mean anyone, who witnessed our debacle last year could see that our starting RT was especially deficient in pass blocking.
We should have begged, borrowed or stolen a starting RT for this year...and a #2 for a decent RT would have been a gimme...Polumbus sucks at RT...and when Robert gets hurt, it's going to be Polubus' guy who probably gets him.
Penny wise and pound foolish...that's our FO. Give away the kitchen sink for the franchise guy, but don't surround him with enough big-uglies to keep him alive.
Our FO still doesn't believe o-line guys are worth a premium. When Trent's contract comes up, let's see if they pony up.
Polumbus has been on four teams. He's a journey-man offensive lineman.
Now, seriously, we couldn't have shopped a #2 for a decent RT, especially after seeing Polumbus play last year?
We have a franchise qb (or so we've been told) who the FO doesn't think needs protection.
That's the problem.

Well, who made these horrible picks on o-linemen? Yes, that's right, it was the front office.
We keep getting inferior players...through the draft (with the exception of TW) and through free agency. That's the point I was making.
Gettis was a whiff. LeReibus is looking like a whiff. And, Compton? No one thought he'd stick around. And, in 2013, we don't go after any o-line...even though we all knew there was a need.
I still don't believe that in three years we couldn't improve on the RT position. This is such a glaring need that using a future pick makes sense. Otherwise, we continue to put our true franchise pick in mortal danger.

How are they doing? We still have a terrible offensive line. We still have Rambo giving up big plays. Oh, and Robert is either being tripped up by his own light-weight o-line or running out of the pocket to protect his life.
Yeah, I know who's in charge. It's the same GM we've had for over 4 years.
All of this silliness needs to stop. And, the only way it'll stop is if we get a new owner.
Yeah, we're doomed.

I think Ribs is being kept around to justify the pick.
