Statement By Daniel Snyder on Roger Goodell

This makes me want to puke. Goodell cared more about keeping Ray Rice out of the headlines and the NFL's good image than he did doing the right thing. And having a bunch of soulless rich owners trying to cover for him is disgusting. Lost what remaining respect I had for Snyder today. And yes, no doubt this is going out from all NFL owners - but it reflects an overall tone-deafness that some things are far more important than the NFL's image. It's astounding to me that even now the NFL doesn't get that.

Goodell screwed up. Big time. It's time to at least admit that and come clean. I think it's a big enough error in judgment that it should cost him his job as well.

The only thing I can say on behalf of Goodell is, he admitted prior to the tape coming out or anything, that he got it wrong. He made a mistake. Goodell is not the one who beat Ray Rice's then-fiancee Janay Palmer. The real one who should have anger directed toward him is Ray Rice. Roger Goodell, made a mistake and tried to rectify it. Did he do something stupid on top of it? Yes. I am not going to lie, and say he was not an idiot during this whole mess, but he made a mistake and tried to fix it. Ray Rice beat a woman.

Ray Rice should be in prison. I'll be interested to find out if the NFL had any interaction with law enforcement that helped keep Ray Rice out of prison. We all know, if this weren't an NFL player knocking out a female, there'd be no question but that Ray Rice would be in prison. Ray Rice is 100% responsible for his actions. We aren't talking about his actions - but Goodell's and the NFL's.

Goodell admitted he 'made a mistake' only after enormous public outcry, and even the revised NFL policy is a joke. I'm not as focused on what actions Goodell took, as I am horrified that the overall focus of Goodell and the NFL has been on how to minimize the PR hit they would take with these events. Goodell, the NFL brass, NFL ownership - they are STILL trying to PR their way out of trouble. And i'll also say that Goodell is either flat out lying about not seeing the elevator video, or he intentionally chose not to view it so he would have 'plausible deniability' later. I just don't see any other possibilities. And even if he did not view the tape, we're going to find out that other NFL leaders did. And even after viewing it, their response has been pathetic.

In no way does my disgust for how the NFL has managed mean that I don't hold Ray Rice 100% responsible for the incident in the first place. But he's not the only individual who has done wrong here either. My opinion.

I get your point totally too. It's a shame that the tone deaf manner in which Goodell and the NFL has approached this whole thing has moved the spotlight from where it should have been all along - on the domestic violence criminal who knocked a woman unconscious.
