So when will the Redskins Logo get back on the helmet and playing field?

That's true, and a name like that would be just as bad or worse.
Do you honestly think they would choose a name like that ?

I don't think so.

It sounds like you're saying you don't think they should change again just because it would be another change.
I'm saying change to something better while you can.
I'd agree. If you can make something better, you should. Obviously teams shouldn't just change names or uniforms every 3-4 years, but I consider this the Harris Group's one mulligan. Snyder clearly screwed this up given how rushed and poorly received the name change and rebrand was. That gives Harris a shot to do it right. It's a forever type of decision, so he might as well get it right rather than just settle for something that is "better than putting fans through another new name."

If someone had arranged your marriage at 18 and it wasn't great. You weren't in love, weren't attracted to the woman, and knew that you had 50-60 years to spend with her...would you rip off the band-aid when you met your soul mate and correct what had gone wrong? Or would you just let sleeping dogs lie for the good of the people in your life so that you didn't rock the boat and put them through ANOTHER wedding/marriage, etc.?

What's surprising to me is how many seem to feel nostalgic for WFT.
People that love WFT do not make any sense to me. If Commanders is hated because it is boring and shows Snyder's complete incompetence--WFT is worse. It's Football Team. Go Team! It shows his incompetence more by his inability to read any room, or have any foresight, and just biff his way though this all with no plan or thought.

What's surprising to me is how many seem to feel nostalgic for WFT. I guess the subversive side of me enjoyed calling us the Washington Teamsters, but I also thought that WFT was a WTF quality name.

They only liked it because as long as it existed “Redskins” was still our name in absentia. For me, that means the issue would never have been resolved. WFT was a non-starter, and it wasn’t better than Commanders…it was an embarrassment.

I want the issue resolved…or at least settled. Right now we have neither.

Depends on the year you met your soulmate.

2024 or 1924? :joker:😂

It's never coming back. I don't care what they call the team, they could call them the Washington Pencils and I would be fine with it. That would actually be cooler.

My take is that most (not all, but most) of the big WFT name fans are people who like that it gives them an easier opening to just keep calling them the old name, and in fact they take it as explicit “permission” to, in the absence of real branding. They tend to like the generic nature of it so they can pretend that it didn’t really change. Not in a delusional way, it’s just that there’s no mascot tied to WFT so they can keep calling them Redskins without seeming like they’re as stuck in the past (whereas if we’re the Commanders or Sentinels or whatever it seems more stubborn and silly to stick with the old name—people can do what they want, but it comes across as more obtuse when there’s an actual real mascot that you’re ignoring).

Well they have shut down Redskins, but people are still going on about that. Common sense says they won't--even if they do, it's still going to piss off half the fanbase if their name isn't picked. Also, Harris said they are looking to unite the fanbase--another name change--our fourth in the last 5 years--will not do that.

I get it's *technically* the '4th name' but that's somewhat of a distortion given that 'WFT' (or as I preferred 'WTF') was always a placeholder. They had to call them something. No one believed that was 'going to be the name'. If they'd called them just 'Washington' during that stretch, would we have called it a 'name change'?

The NFL forced us to change the name. They took 2 years to come up with the new one. It sucks. You have the right to your opinion just like all of us, but you are in the decided minority from everything I have seen. They need to do what the majority of fans want them to do - which is to come up with something better than the bungled abortion 'Commanders'.

Beat me to it, yeah

I've always said, no matter how you feel about this franchise and it's history, if you've stuck around this long, you've earned the right to an opinion :)
This reminds me of my favorite Teddy Roosevelt quote:

"When I want your opinion I'll give it to you."

:eek:ls:

I’m pretty much saying the exact opposite …

I know. I was just kidding. Besides, it's a great (and funny) quote.

I thought my Dad came up with that, lol

Honestly, the best thing about Commanders is that the players don’t have to be interviewed after the game and asked their opinion on Redskins or what the new name should be.

Make no mistake, that was a problem. I don’t much care for Commanders, but I don’t miss those days at all.

I also think something that’s easily lost in this conversation sometimes is how strongly people identify with the brand. For some, it’s literally like being forced to change your last name and it will never be right for them.

Hard disagree on this one: fans are fickle and stupid. That’s the worst way to run a franchise in any phase.
