I'm looking at the contract now. It's not bad:
Jordan Reed Contract, Salary Cap Details & Breakdowns | Spotrac
The cap hit is moderate the first two years (he'll have the 17th and then 12th highest cap hit of all TEs this year and next year, respectively), and if he totally stinks we can cut him after those two years and the cap hit is not entirely sucky. If he's still playing at a high level in 2017 and beyond, he gets paid, but by then it will be merely top ten money, not The-Highest-Paid-TE-In-The-League money. There's some risk there, but nothing we shouldn't be able to handle.
Pretty shrewd contract, if you ask me. Not that I'm an expert.
