Robert Griffin Stirs Controversy w/ Tweet

I do know this: there is mounting evidence (i.e., studies) now that document that the majority of FB users feel worse about themselves the more they use FB.

Not the case on our little BGO island!!!!

Nope the twitter difference is stark but simple...

Twitter is all about telling everyone in cyberspace what YOU think about something. The other forms of social media from Skype to FB to message boards to chat rooms are about actual conversation, not podium time which is all Twitter is. Even at 140 characters a post in this place would still be about conversation, Twitter isn't (although it can evolve into conversations).

I agree with the technical difference you are drawing out. but am inclined to agree with Tshille on the social outcomes (as a statement of "on average").

Eh! Depends on whose feelings might get hurt, because their life suffered a boo-boo.

Yea that's interesting but one of the first thoughts that comes to mind for me is; is that a direct correlation or just another one of those conclusions that is drawn without enough context to be taken seriously? I have to wonder if it's the social interaction with friends who are "doing better" etc or if it's Facebook. IOW would those same people be doing just as bad with time progression and real social interaction or does the use of a piece of software actually affect it? Does life just suck for them or does facebook make their life suck even more...the former makes more sense to me than the latter.

spot on. one and the same.

I would think that FB provides a near-real time visibility that just wasn't there before.

if you're built like Mike, you're strong and it doesn't bug ya. it appears that there are a lotta folks in our sensitive times who aren't as strong. in the vent, just something I thought was interesting.

me? I just don't like the idea that everything is recorded and stored away for future reference. or even for sale.

I kinda feel like I'm gonna be in the minority with this but here it goes anyway....

RG3 is a polarizing figure...He was the rookie of the year, he lead his team to their division title and the playoffs, he also had a great first quarter in that playoff game... but through injury and irresponsibility on both his part and the coaching staff... the pooch was screwed.

He's working hard at his rehab and many think he'll be back to begin the season. I'm pretty wary of that, but nonetheless... I'm of the opinion that he's talking too much for someone who's injured and unable to contribute for who knows how long.

His little rah rah speech at the draft day party was the first time I saw him lose his cool and seemed quite awkward. The Cowboys comment isn't that big of a deal but then the twitter stuff on top of that just is a little too much from someone who could just be keeping his head down and working it all out behind the scenes.

My preference, I realize many of you like his in your face attitude, I like that when he's playing. But he's on the mend... too much attention can be a bad thing and is no doubt gonna lead to increased expectations from the fans, the media and such. I'd PREFER i f he just kept it all on the DL for a little while until he's back at it full speed.

I don't remember hearing anything at all from AP last year except the picture right after surgery and an interview right before the first game. I may be wrong and RG3 is a QB, a bonified superstar and not a running back for the vikings.

I was excited but yet still sighed when I walked into a huge 10x life size billboard of him at the 3rd street promenade in Santa Monica a couple of months ago. On the one hand I am so proud to have him as our QB but on the other side I want him all to ourselves.

I dunno I guess he would just tone it down a little, we get enough hate from the fans across the nation I don't want him to turn into a trash talker and be involved in every situation that pops up.

:uhoh:

dude...to make the joke work you gotta start dropping the tag on rejoinders!

I saw your awesomeness on display last week! well.....your wife to be exact!!
/compliment

dead,

ya know, he has had to deal with a lot of BS along the way. for example, the predictable black QB stuff.

I think the guy has been flat out fantastic. he is da man! yea, there is the marketing aspect - but I always keep in mind these guys are one injury away. suppose Robert is hurt next season and never plays again - he doesn't even get to cash in on his extension contract!!!!

I noted this when he was drafted: when an unusual cat like this is drafted, multi-talented freak of nature (physically, intellectually, etc.), what makes anyone think he is going to hang around for 10-13 years? life really is short...the productive years. this guy has so many options.

What happened at the DDP? I missed that news.

Nice post Dead...I can relate to your POV...

Redskins Name Change now the 2nd hottest trending topic on yahoo.

Ditto on twitter.

I imagine PTI and Rome will have it too. Can Skip Bayless be far behind?

Now all we need is a popular african american athlete like Kobe to chime in, or David Letterman or Conan in the next few nights.

It's now becoming a national topic.

let's suppose Snyder caves in.

how many of you are gonna trash current Skins' jerseys and buy whatever the PC label happens to be? You gonna buy a number 21, Taylor "Redtail" jersey?

not I.

It's just going to depend on how harshly the media hits it.

At first, the value of the Redskins jerseys etc will go up in value. They will be a rare item.

If they keep hitting it, changing the public opinion years from now to a point where a Redskins jersey is about as cool as a KKK hood, or a confederate flag, then very few will want them.

RG3 decided he wanted to show the Redskins faithful just how far he had come by doing jumping jacks on stage. (That video can be seen by clicking HERE)

Griffin has fond memories from last season, “You’ve got to start with the last game against the Cowboys,” Griffin said. “Alfred Morris runs for 200 yards, does a great job. Then we go back to the game on Thanksgiving and we spanked the Cowboys.”

“We made Cowboys Stadium our home. And that’s what we want to continue to do,” he said.

“We’re having a great draft right now, and I’m all in for Week 1, just like you guys are right now,” Griffin said. “You guys saw me jumping. I mean, I can run a little bit. I’ll be good. No worries. I’ll take it slow, but in the same time, I’ll be ready to go.”

This is exactly what I feared. This could cause a good portion of the country to jump on the PC Bandwagon because that's how they are conditioned nowadays. The sheeple can no longer see the difference between morally straight and politically correct.

Dead Money, I also see your POV. I LOVE RG3 for sticking to his guns and I agree with what he says but there are times when keeping it on the DL is less hassle and if this thing blows out of proportion like it very well could, I'm afraid Danny will cave because, well.....that's what he does. Next thing you know, that ****face Mara will be leading the charge for a name change and threaten our cap and draft picks if we don't.

I have a hard time finding any fault in Dead's point. (as a lot of you as well), I really like his personality ans strength of character but I do think he is talking a bit to much and is maybe getting a little caught up in his celebrity.

I even imagine his Dad getting on him for it sometimes.

What do you think his sponsors are doing right now?

Everyone reading this knows exactly what his sponsors are doing. They're having meetings to gauge just how many pissed off incoming phone calls and emails come in over the next week. Is anyone threatening to ban them?

Nike? They aren't cool with any perception of racism. Subway? What if 50,000 native americans boycott? How about 150,000?

Then they would be forced to drop him.

It's certainly not at that point yet, but it's truly amazing how one ignorant tweet can change the perception of a person from a bright, highly intelligent superstar into TO in a short period of time.

RG3.....stay off twitter. Play football. Thanks.

You think his tweet was 'ignorant'?

Needlessly vocal and aggressive? Otherwise I'd say he described American 'group think' pretty well.
