RG3 Development Tracker 2015

I want to say I heard that the only guarantee is if he can't pass a physical by May 1... and not necessarily guaranteed against ANY injury.

Have to be cut by March. The injury guarantee would only kick in if a player was unable to play the following season after getting hurt. The option year becomes fully guaranteed on the first day of the league year in the fifth contract year.

Ok so basically my months were off... thank you for clarifying

Choice 1: Stick with the guy who has had 2 ACLs, a dislocated ankle and several concussions. Gamble our entire 2016 season that he not only stays healthy, but that he also becomes a good QB that any team would want to start.

Choice 2: Play the other guys. If they suck? Then start over again next year in the draft with a healthy QB.

Decisions literally don't get any easier than this.

This is where Scot either shows himself to be Vinny 2, or whether we know we really have something.

I'm confused....if your implied probability assessment comes true....don't you get to choice two right away? i.e., they are not really separate choices. (much less the only choices).

Vinny 2? How ridiculous and far-hecthed can one get? you're basing a conclusion on the basis of one potential outcome and not all the other events/characteristics that characterized Vinny but not McL? totally different track records? cmon now. we know there are some who believe Gruden is the second coming....but that shouldn't cloud clear reasoning.

What are you confused about?

If RG3 goes down again with another serious injury like an ACL, broken back, etc. then we go into 2016 with $16.4 million less than other teams. We will be on the hook for $16.4 million from our cap.

We are now gambling our 2016 season each time that he enters the game.

Now think back for a second to when we had the Mara cap penalty. We couldn't afford to sign FAs. We couldn't compete with other teams in the league that had more money to give out in contracts.

Now imagine Galette walking. Now imagine Pot Roast walking away before next season. Why? Because we can't afford to pay them. What's the reward in the risk/reward again?

That risk can be taken off the table right now.

Broken back?

We might as well go last boy scout then. What if the corner back has a gun and shoots him?

Game over, man....

that was a rhetorical statement. your logic doesn't offer distinct choices....or a complete set of options.

as for the money...someone (other than fanboys & girls) obviously made a cost/benefit calculation that likely includes some variables we haven't thought about.

as a sidebar: it's also obvious that there are teams that have built up quite a bit of "reserve cap" capital at one time or another. i.e., the marginal value of those dollars may not be as great as some think it might be in every instance. I'll agree we aren't there yet....but it's not a law of nature that cap should be spent....or that the more a team has spent the marginal return remains as high as the first dollars spent.

it is curious, given past Redskin practice, that folks believe more cap availability leading to more spending equates to better football.

Same thing if Kerrigan blows a knee. Of all the blown knees this preseason around the league, only 1 that I know of was a repeat of the same knee. Makes all the delusion about it being more likely seem like stinkier bullshit than it already is.

Agendas are funny.

PS ~ If it wasn't so serious, the devil in me would wish for $16 million hit to happen. With all the whining over something that hasn't happened, the entertainment value of it actually happening gives me a tingle in my britches. But then, I don't wish for bad things to happen so I can break my arm patting myself on the back for being right. Others may.

Nothing could be more incorrect. You aren't seriously trying to compare Kerrigan to RG3, are you? That's like comparing RG3 to Andrew Luck. Or our latest LT to Trent Williams. They play on the same football team. That's about where the likeness ends.

1. Kerrigan is elite. One of the best in the league at his position. How many teams would RG3 even start for?

2. Kerrigan is much cheaper than RG3.

3. Kerrigan doesn't have the past injury history of RG3. Yes, once you have a concussion, you are more likely to have another. That's science.

4. 4 years later, and RG3 still makes bad decisions and doesn't protect himself.

There is nothing similar between the two players.

I really hope that Dan and Scot are seeing things more clearly than you appear to be. Right now, that doesn't seem to be the case.

The similarity is that if a Kerrigan, or Williams, or both go down next year, their yearly salaries would be as big a drag on the salary cap as Griffin's would IF he gets hurt in a way that pays him the guaranteed money.

Get off your high ****ing horse cowboy.

Except those 2 are pro bowlers and RG3 looks like less of a QB every time he steps onto the field and hasn't looked like starting material since 2012.

It's been 3 years now, RG3 is not going to learn how to play the QB position in the NFL without a gimmick offense, which was what the coach they fired ran, not the one they hired. Gruden may not be a great coach, may not be what RG3 needed, it looks like all RG3 can run is that gimmick offense but this is what they all wanted 2 years ago, right? Including RG3 according to the reports. Congrats Danny, you've one upped yourself on cluster**** manufacturing even without the assistance of Vinny Cerrato.

RG3 still has 0 footwork, 0 pocket awareness, bad mechanics, can't move in the pocket, can't feel pressure, can't see wide open receivers or see that they'll be wide open .5 seconds after the snap, the dude is done, cooked, and served but Snyder wants another look and then another, and another. You have to know that professional football coaches and a GM wouldn't be behind this idiocy yet it still goes on and on and on and on.... Do you think Jay or Scot wanted to pony up 2-3 starters pay for that extra year for a QB that has no idea what is going on in the game he is participating in? Really?

Standby for another NFL season reading things like this: RG3 and the Dumbest Team in Football «

does Chip Kelley run a gimmick offense?

don't care what others post - and certainly don't allow it to influence how I actually analyze a problem.

got it....all roads lead to Snyder.

Wonderful. But that wasn't the point. I was talking financial. X amount of millions of dollars being paid to guys on injured reserve, is X amount of dollars of money going to guys on injured reserve.

Period.

No, I don't. And neither do you. That's a fact. If you have any shred of proof, whatsoever, the Washington Post will pay you handsomely for it.

Same answer. I don't know. And neither do you.

No, you don't.

Doesn't even matter when they hired Allen's buddy Gruden because everybody, including RG3, wanted a fresh start in a traditional WCO. Shanahan was the problem, now it's Gruden.

Just as I don't know for a fact, with no proof, that bigfoot or the toothfairy don't exist, lol.

Colt is our best QB when it comes to getting the players ready (with tempo)for the snap. Kirk is pretty good too. Colt shows subtleties with his voice which keeps the defense more honest. RG3 is nowhere near the master of this craft. Deceiving the defense, and now allowing them time the snap count so well.

I believe RG3 needs to run more to get into the game. Sliding has always been an issue for him. Most mobile qbs make it look so easy. He makes it look like a very complicated athletic maneuver.

You Navy guys!

Just pointing out that Kelley's offense isn't a gimmick and it's way more risky (in terms of exposing the QB) than Shanahan's!

Jumping to the quick: I'm thinking Griffin is done. McCoy has a weak arm and has nothing in his resume that instill confidence. Cousins has gotten better - right up to the moment he's under pressure. Don't see him as the long-run solution either.

Sure hope McL has the luck to uncover one more Wilson!

Yep. This is where I am. Cousins has the potential to be an average starter in the league, or a very good backup. I don't think our 2017 QB is on our roster now.

Well, I'm still gonna wait and see how things look during the regular season before I can close the book on Robert.

But with an improved defense, which I think we'll have,
and with improved special teams, which I believe we'll have,
and better coaching, which I'm hoping we'll have,
I believe we can win with any of the 3 QB's we have.

I still say, a winning season, and in contention for the division title, into December.
