Gibbs winning on MNF is monumental. THe next game was even bigger when we blew them out and made the playoffs.

what makes you think just because we get some higher draft pick that they're going to make that big of a difference?

All in the past my friend. I'm looking toward the future simply because the present state of affairs sucks

Getting a higher draft pick may lead us to the next Matt Ryan, or Heath Shuler. But we'll never know if we aren't in position

At the very least we could use the pick to trade down and rebuild the line

I'd much rather have that action than to be able to say "Na, na, we won a meaningless game"

There is no, repeat NO difference in draft position. Three slots ain't gonna make or break us, in fact, we may get a good player at a cheaper price.

Any other year, I'd agree with you.

I'm just tapped out. After last year and this year (and in particular, the lack of rebuilding since Snyder took over) makes me feel like sacrificing a Dallas win is more than worth it if it means my team can start laying the foundation for success in the future.

In other words, I would gladly give up a Dallas game this year for many wins in the future.

I am serious, but frankly, this team deserves no loyalty from any of us for the way it's been run the last decade. Dallas fans know their team sucks as well, it's just that now instead of arguing titles and championships, we argue degrees of suckage.

Being free of the homerage, I sit back and see that part of the way back is to get as good a position as we can in the draft and go from there

There's also the benefit of seeing how other players on the team perform when the bullets are flying. Almost like a second preseason.

If we are serious about rebuilding, and this season is lost, now is the time for the Skins to put in players like Grossman.

Yet another good reason, other than obtaining a better 1st round draft pick, to start him.

seriously, the level of negativity on this site is almost too much. every day i think about not coming back on here until next season. I keep coming back here for the news and articles but it seems like every single thread is starting to get infested with the same negative posts over and over.

These are tough times Mike. I feel the same way you do--it isn't easy, that's for sure.

I look at it positively though. And I just believe a higher draft pick will have a better chance of turning into many more wins in the future. And that's worth it to me.

I never was very good at math. So, hearing that we've been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs means nothing to me. This is Dallas week. We beat the Cowboys and I'm happy for months. In Jimmy Johnson's first season, the Cowboys were winless.....oh, except for the two games they played us and won. I've NEVER forgotten that. To be able to come out the other end of a crappy season like this one and know that Cowboy fans will forever remember that we beat them two out of two makes it palatable for me.

If you play, you play to win. Only bad things happen when you don't. Injuries occur when players are only putting forth 85%. Go 100% and get what you can. It's too early to foresee what draft pick we'll receive and even then, the difference between pick #8 and pick #10 is negligible.

Play young and see what you've got if you have to, but play to WIN.

I am quoting this because I could not agree more and some people need to read it a second time. Under no circumstance do I root for the Cowboys to beat us! I will deal with lesser draft pick, as most Skins fans should.

Now, unfortunately, we are going to lose to the Cowboys this week. They look like a much better team than what we played earlier this year.

Make no mistake, I don't root for the Girls to win. I don't root for the Skins to lose. I simply think if we can't execute a simple PAT, then no matter who starts at QB we probably get whacked

IF we get whacked, we get better position for next year in the draft. Simple as that

I hate Dallas. But what does beating them bring us? Bragging rights? "We suck, but you suck even more?" Do Cleveland Browns fans and Detroit Lions fans argue with each other like this? We have already beaten them once this year.

Yes bragging rights! And I have a friend who is a huge Browns' fan, he despises Pittsburgh as much as I do Dallas. He always roots for them against the Steelers, he does not care about draft choice!


This is the Dallas Cowturds! With playoffs gone, the only thing I have left to root for is:

1.) A better record than the Cowgirls

2.) Upset the Giants the last game of the year to eliminate them from the playoffs!

They are division rivals and I will always root for the team I love to win!



I don't believe Dallas has been our biggest rival for the last 5 years. Unfortunately, teams like Tampa and Detroit have taken their spot temporarily.

While the rivalry with Tampa was born 5 years ago, they are a different team now, not much to it anymore.

As for Detroit, I am not sure there either.

The Redskins/Cowgirls rivalry is one of the biggest in all sports! Thank you George Allen for the tradition of loathing for them!


Months from now, you are going to much happier if we have a higher pick when the draft rolls around.

Yeah, there might be some satisfaction if we have a high pick to fill our needs, but not at the expense of losing to our bitter rival!

1 game against Dallas? Or improved chances for a serious stud like T Williams for the next 8 years? Risk 8 years for this weekend's game? No thanks.

Fallacious! There is no way of saying with any degree of certainty that the player we choose, either one before or one after in the draft order, will be that much better!

McD5, I have followed you for a long time over at ES first and now here. You seem like a very sensible person who is not afraid to speak their mind. But if you think losing to the Cowboys is in the best interest of our team, I have to respectfully call !

For me, it comes down to this. I ****ing hate Dallas. I hate that city, hate their team, their owner, their players, the colors of the uniforms, I hate Dallas!

Having said that, i don't expect us to win. They are playing better and are slightly more talented than we are right now. But by God, if the players and coaches don't play hard and do everything they can to win that game... it ain't gonna be pretty. Damn the draft position, this is by far the most meaningful game of the season at this point. We're out of the playoffs, so this is our playoff game.

Draft position is meaningless. Name the position that hasn't produced a bust. Can't do it.

I'm all for playing every backup we can get on the field, to see what they can do. I'll root for them as hard as I do any starter we've ever had. I rooted for our replacement players as much as I did our Super Bowl teams.

IMO, you ALWAYS root for your team to win.

And, you ALWAYS root for Dallas to lose. No exceptions.

Now compare those to our other draft picks over the last five years.

The only time I'd seriously consider "rooting" for the Redskins to lose would be in this one specific scenario:

A loss insures the number one overall pick in the draft in a year there is a consensus blue-chip QB available.

And by that I don't mean a one-year wonder like Cam Newton, I mean a guy with at least 3 years of big-time productivity against big-time competition.

A guy that I, in all my scouting wisdom, have determined is The Man.

But even then doubt I'd admit it publicly sober.
