Redskins Announce Ron Rivera as Head Coach

Yea...that'll work just swell. Decision by committe.

The tried and true approach is independent coach and GM who work cooperatively toward a common vision though each has a different time horizon. Not this idiocy of no new GM so Snyder could lure Rivera into he fold. IMO, this is already starting out not on a straight-line course but a jagged track.

No surprise there I guess.
 
I understand that the traditional route is to hire a football GM and then let him go from there. On the other hand, let's see how things go. They may know full well who the next GM is going to be and that individual may have fully blessed the Rivera hiring.

I have to believe that, whatever the course of events, it can't help but be better than what we had a month ago :)
 
Well.....I'm crossing the Atlantic on my boat. I won't have a navigator but I have someone in mind who will meet me when I arrive in Europe who approves my plan for getting there!

Not overly concerned about the "Carolina connection" theme. For Rivera to completely revamp the culture, need to bring in guys that aren't connected w/ the years of bad performance here. And actually, Buffalo currently has tons of Carolina connections - and they are solid playoff team on the rise.
 
Just be glad Snyder didn't name and hand the organization over to Rick smith former Houston GM
 
Morocco Brown or another personnel guy Rivera is tight with will be here after the April draft to join the FO.

The NFL for whatever reason is still a stodgy league when it comes to some changes. It's not just Washington.

Gettelman did the same thing in NY.

They leave the existing people in place thinking those individuals have spent 8 months scouting and setting a prelim board and they don't want to change horses mid-stream.

Al on WTEM gave a good rant over this outdated concept but it still goes on.

Haven't personnel guys on other teams also been scouting and evaluating for the past 8 months?

Perhaps a new voice in the mix leads the team to take a player they otherwise would have missed out on.
 
Turner is in, O'Connell is out as OC.

He's besties with McDaniels so is likely following him to his next HC gig.

Rivera is starting over with a clean slate.

Objectively Turner has only been an OC for what 6 games?🤨

This is a bit of a leap of faith by Riverboat Ron.

Well... it isn't as if O'Connell is a proven commodity other than winding up on "who's hot" lists for whatever reason.
 
Leads me to believe developing Haskins for 2020 may not be Ron's end game 🧐
 
Quite possible Rivera could decide not to hitch his wagon to Haskins if he doesn't see what he wants from him. But I don't think the hiring of Turner over O'Connell would signal anything one way or the other when it comes to how he views Haskins. If he went with O'Connell, some would assume it buttresses the idea that Haskins is going to be the guy, since one of the 'selling points' in keeping him is his supposed chemistry with Haskins and 'continuity'. I'm not sure going with Turner is evidence he won't go with Haskins.

Bottom line, I think Rivera is going with the OC he thinks is the best OC - regardless of who ultimately plays under center. Then again, I'm the one suggesting that if the Bengals select Chase Young, or trade down to someone who drafts him, the Redskins might shock everyone and draft Burrow or Tua.

Respectfully disagree. That will likely be the party line. But the theme is the same as ever: taking care of the friends along for the ride.

What a friggin uninspiring start. Same ole BS just a different coach BS'ing the fans. I see nothing, zero, inspiring in what this coach is doing. But he took away the toys! What a tough disciplinarian we have! How many years will we have to endure his contract? I see nothing but 7-9/9-7 seasons with this guy. his comfort zone obviously has narrow bounds. DS plays another insider joke on the fanbase.

Rumor has it, that upon reading this post, that Coach Rivera has named "Al Fansince62" as the new Director of Cheerleading Squad.

Chris Cooley is right, the Redskins have some solid B players but to win in the NFL a team needs a core of several A players that form the foundation.

Trent was one but is now 31 and may not return.

McLaurin and Allen may become A's with the right coaching. Sweat as well.

But we need more.

That #2 pick is our chance to get a franchise player at QB, OL, CB, etc.

I wouldn't pass that up unless the package includes a pick back that is in the top 5-7.

Miami's pick at #6 and their pick at #2 5 would be a start.

Throwing in a #3 this year and a #2 next year.
