Redskins Acquire Center Bryan Stork

Nothing's changed with the outcome of the move (including your hysteria). It was a no-risk pickup. If he passes the physical and manages to avoid future concussions, he's a huge steal. If he doesn't, it costs us nothing. Keep ignoring the 17 members who've pointed out the same thing - it's what you do.

Another way of looking at it is that our GM and team is doing everything it can to improve everywhere they can. This is year 2 of the McCloughan era - you can't fix every hole overnight. The Vinny comparison is inept.

Or it's possible that a number of teams had interest and we simply swooped in and got first crack at him. Keep ignoring it - there was ZERO risk. Refute that genius :)

I guess you figured out that you ain't Kate Winslet in this scenario?

You know, when McCl signed on, he had a plan. Build through the draft.

That looks like it's pretty much gone to shit. The rookie will sell jersies. O-linemen come and go.

This is about as far fetched a statement as you have ever uttered on this site...I call :bsflag:

In his 1st off-season he jettisoned many over the hill vets with no value, drafted some key players, and brought in some youth.

What were the results?

WE WON THE DIVISION!!!

Minimize that accomplishment all you want, but that is a great start to any GM's tenure, anywhere!

Nah, Vinny woulda given a 3rd in 2017 and a 4th in 2018 for the Stork.

7th rounders rarely stick around anyway imho, usually long shots for special teams. As El said those ****ing Colts took our future C in the first. I truly believe McLuvs was about to snag Kelly up instead of Doctson. My guess is we go hard at a C within the 1st 2 rounds next draft.

7th rounder for a possible chance to push Leribust off the roster? Oh hell yeah you take that 10/10 times.

So, tr1 is on the internet message board trash heap for a reason. And, we're desperate to keep a member with disaster written all over him. Do we really have a competent BGO Staff, gentlemen? I'm but a naive poster, and I can see this is a stupid move.

It's a Vinny move.

In the meantime, the guys we're expecting to remain civil are certainly feeling great about the development. Team morale on the members list must be tremendous.
Fixed that for you.

Could you please show us where McLovin stated he would build through the draft exclusively. Funny, but every interview I've seen since he signed on said he would build through the draft, and supplement with free agents when the need arose. It saved our ass last season with people he brought in when other players were injured during the season. It may be time for you to take off the skuz colored glasses, and take a clear look at what's actually happening.

I think we get too much flak for winning the division without beating a winning team.

The climb up the stairway to the Superbowl is a long and steep one and you've got to take it one step at a time. There's so much to do to get things right to be a contender.

We checked ALOT off that list last year, but I don't think anyone, neither fans nor anyone involved with the team itself, underestimates the work still ahead. The fact we took a punt on Stork, to me anyway, shows a reluctance to rest on our laurels, it shows a determination to explore any and all options which is what you HAVE to do to be a champion.

You know how I love my analogies, well I was watching a piece on the Olympics and why the Brits were so awesome in the Cycling this year. They were interviewing the team and they were talking about the fact that they have a technical advancement centre or some such who are a brain trust who's job it is to look at ANYTHING that might give any kind of competitive advantage, even if it's just milliseconds. Right down to the material they make the riders outfits from. All those tiny slivers of time add up and they are determined to exploit every single one of them.

I'm happy to have McL and co turn over any stone they can find to look for potential solutions to problems. I don't want them to sit back and say "Naw, lets not bother cause no one else is!". Sometimes it's the person who takes the chance who reaps the rewards. And in this instance with Stork there was no downside. There was no risk. I'd be happy for them to pull in every veteran, waived, cut and on the heap Centre there is in the league and run them through a medical and put them through their paces just in case there's a diamond in there that everyone else is overlooking.

In my view we started looking at all those competitive advantages last year when McL took the reins. I see a guy who's not restricted to just one avenue of improvement, he's willing to look anywhere. I like that.

That's why I think (hope) that this year will be a good one. I think we'll beat teams this year who have winning records. I think we'll compete and look like a professional organisation. Not the laughing stock we've been in recent decades (yes... decades!).

Will we finish better than 9-7? Not sure. I'd wager we'll repeat that number to be honest.
Will we win the division? Again, not sure, but I'd wager that we'll be in the running, which is something that hasn't always been the case lately.
Will we make the playoffs? Who knows, but I think we'll be in the mix.

I understand where we are right now. We're not a bad team, but we're not a contender either. We're in that middle ground and I believe heading in the right direction.
I don't think I'm anywhere near being alone here in that view.

At least one of those teams that we beat that didnt have a winning record, would have if we hadnt beat them. A couple of others would have been 8-8 if we hadnt beat them.

The tired mainstay of the "all is shit" crowd is really a pile of bunk when looked at rationally. The funny part is that I dont believe anyone who feels that we are on a positive track feel things are perfect, we just feel that things are getting better incrementally in the past few seasons.

Exactly! :D

I don't know anyone, here or elsewhere, who is proclaiming us as the cream of the NFC East, the Winners of the NFC and Champions of the World.
I think we're all realistic about what we are.

The fact that we're seeing those steps is extremely encouraging to me. So many times in the past we've tried to look for the big flashy saviour or the all in one fix for things. With no drama and just football at the moment we feel like a PROPER team. :D

I like it. I hope it does lead to sustained success.

And while I would like a Superbowl sometime soon, right now I just REALLY WANT to be continuously relevant from a football standpoint. We've been riding the rollarcoaster for too long.

and we had DJax in the second part of the year.

I've seen you continue to beat this drum and I just have to point out a few things.

First of all, Jackson is still on the team, so ...

Secondly, with Jackson on the field last year the Redskins went 5-3. Without him they went 4-4. I'm not sure he's the huge-mongous difference maker you think he is. Sure, the passing game picked up when he was on the field. Of course it did. He is, after all, the team's #1 WR. But I think you are over-stating things just a bit.

Which brings me to, uh, Thirdly: Pretty much every team in the league that has a #1 WR worth a damn is going to struggle if that guy goes out. It's not an indictment on the Redskins that the best receiver on the team makes the team's passing game better. That's true for every team. The Packers go 12-4 with the #1 offense in the entire league and come within an eyelash of winning the NFCCG in 2014. In 2015, Jordy Nelson goes down before the season starts and they limp to 10-6 with the #23 offense and bow out of the playoffs in the divisional round. This dip in play isn't due to an bumbling front office, or a badly put together team. It's called losing your top WR is gonna hurt.

It hurt the Redskins last year. But we still went 9-7. That's a GOOD thing, not a bad thing.

I've said before, that if Kirk is perfect and DJax stays healthy, we can do well. Otherwise, we have depth problems in o-line and d-line. Basic 101 football that everyone wants to ignore.

I think we all pretty much all agree that this team is going hang it's hat on the passing game. What irks me is the fact that you seem to think we are all ignoring that. We're not. Most of us just recognize that if Kirk plays like he did last year and Jackson stays healthy, we can do well.

Fourthly, I do find it odd that your big criticism here is that without a top WR the Redskins can't succeed, and then you turn around and criticize the drafting of a top WR. You do realize that added depth might just make Jackson's health not so critical this year? Wouldn't it be awesome if the team didn't lose a beat if one of their top WRs went down for a few games?

I agree that the lines need work. Especially the DL. But you can't keep criticizing the need to keep our WRs healthy and then bash the team for having serious depth at the WR position. It's kinda talking out of both sides of your mouth, there.

Anyway, I'm anxious to see what the new kid can do. We really do have the potential to have a great passing game this year, and that might be worth something.

There's no comparing this move to the old Vinny days. The Skins lost nothing here so big deal, move on. I was also hoping for more lineman, especially a center, in the draft, but I'm not losing sleep over it. Getting Lauvao back will make a huge difference.

The Skins are going to score a ton of points this year, and they have what I believe the best tandem of corners in the league. They might not win it all, but they're going to do well. I feel very confident about that. This team isn't perfect, but to act like nothing has changed since the Vinny days is just goofy IMO.

It's funny that some folks can't get over winning the division at 9-7.

For most of the last twenty years this division, outside of two miracle rides by the Giants, has been mediocre to awful.

At least two if not three of the teams has usually been under .500 while only one is decent.

Last year it was our turn to be decent.

No sense in beating yourself up for finishing 9-7 when most preseason publications had us last with 3-13 or 4-12 records.

What has changed so much in 2016?

The Cowboys still don't have a proven qb and they still have an awful defense, not aided by 3 suspensions.

The Eagles still have Sam Bradford at quarterback and a talent deficit after 2 years of horrible trades by Chip Kelly.

The Giants spent $180M on free agents.

Is Olivier Vernon worth as much as JJ Watt?

Janoris Jenkins to me is an average corner for whom they broke the bank. Norman and Breeland are better players.

Damon Harrison is a guy I like that would have fit in here well as a DT. But he has not yet proven to be a year in, year out top player.

On offense Manning is 34 and has good receivers but a suspect line.

Again, when you look these teams over I don't see anyone ready to make a big leap.

That's why 9-7 could win it again.

And lets not forget the Giants and Eagles both have rookie coaches. The division could potentially be worse this year than it was last year ...

Two things are certain this year, Kirk either shows last year wasn't a fluke or he doesn't, depending on his play and our secondary that will dictate our season, imo because I've also got an a**hole and all of us have both, well I'd think.

But then we wouldn't win against teams with win in records which from what hear is just horrible

We'll get plenty of chances to beat teams with winning records this year, in our non-division games.

Matter of fact, you could argue that all, or nearly all of our non-division opponents will or could have a winning record :

Steelers
Browns
Ravens
Lions
Bengals
Vikings
Packers
Cardinals
Panthers
Bears
