Random Thoughts

Mine was a '99 SC-1...black, moon roof, stick shift, I loved that car.

I got a SL-2 with sunroof, and automatic. Great car, however this reminds me of the one big and rare fiasco I had with the car.
I was drivin down the Interstate to visit a Florida friend, hours away. Started the journey with the sunroof open on a sunny day.
The moment I got on the Interstate, it starts pouring rain. I hit the button to electronically close the sunroof, and it would not budge.
Apparently the sunroof motor just went bad. And there was no way to manually close it. The thing was "stuck open".

So after the rain pours through my car top for a while, I pull over. Fortunately I had a giant roll of plastic stretch wrap in my trunk.
So I wrapped that stuff over the open roof and all the way around the inside's inner roof, doing several overlaps til I had a good blockage against the rain.

However between the wind from the high speed I was drivin on the Interstate, and the fact the plastic was flimsy, the vibration of the plastic was so fast
and loud, it was literally deafening. It literally sounded like there was a helicoptor riding on top of my car, the whole way.
Fortunately, I had some sound-reduction headphones with me (I use it to help sleep), so that made it slightly tolerable til I got to my friend's house.

And thankfully, my friend had a neighbor who was mechanically inclined, and my friend is slightly so inclined, and another neighbor had all kinds of tools.
So, between the four of us, and hours of working, we finally got it closed.

But it was not nearly as easy as one might think.
There was numerous hidden screws that required odd or special tools, to loosen them enough that we could manually close the glass.
Thankfully it worked, as they saved me hundreds of dollars or more, from having a mechanic do it.

And once we got it tightly closed, I vowed not to repair the sunroof motor ever, and thereby never again open that stinkin thing and risk
going through that nightmare again, or likely worse.

btw, I would not be offended or bothered, if anyone laughs at my crazy travail.
I can look back and laugh, especially since I was so blessed to have all the things and people that kept it from being even a bigger nightmare

The Clog-stoppers on mine went bad while I wasn't driving it and the damn thing filled up to the back seats with water, had to sell it off. Lesson learned.

Once again I fall asleep at around 9 pm and wake up before 2am. This seems like my new sleep pattern half the time now but then I eventually sleep for 2-3 more hours later too.

If happiness were an Olympic event, the Nordic countries would be a guaranteed a spot on the podium.

Actually, all three spots on the podium.

According to the latest edition of the World Happiness Report, the three happiest countries in the world are Finland, Iceland and Denmark.

Finland was named the happiest country in the world for a record 9th time in a row, with Iceland, at No. 2, and Denmark in third place in the ranking, which is compiled by the Wellbeing Research Centre at the University of Oxford, and included in the annual report on global happiness.

I've recently discovered that I have a bit of an Ann Margret crush.

I never really knew who she was except for her role in this Santa movie.

I knew she had a little bit of a sex kitten in her, but I didn't realize how much until I saw her dance.

Then I found this personality test, and I'll bet she would have been a lot of fun to be around.

I was in Colorado for a summer with a '79 Mustang. Back then the sunroofs were removable and I had left mine at the house as I drove the mountains. As it tends to do in Colorado a big storm came out of nowhere. I found as I drove the wind for some reason kept the rain out of the car. But it was not a long drive.

I was skiing in PA while driving the same car. I ran into guys I had just met on a ski trip so we skied together and hung out in the parking lot after. It was at night and as they were driving away I found that I had locked my keys in my car. In a deserted parking lot at 11 at night in January. I yelled to my friends and found a sunroof on a '79 Mustang can be pried open with a screwdriver. Whew!

Ann Margret and Rachael Welch were my favorites when I was young.

Anyone know how to do this ?
My Engine Light went on, and used my own handheld engine decoder to determine the issue.
Once I discovered what set it off, I decided that I have zero plans to mechanically deal with the issue.
But of course, I don't want the Engine Light to remain on, for a couple of important reasons.
How can I erase the error so that it does not set off the engine light anymore, but without actually repairing it ?

If you disconnect the battery the engine light should go off...........................but it will come right back on once it detects the fault again. I don't know of a way to keep the light off permanently.

So true.
This is what my manual says (for the device, not the car)
But the wording is way over my head. I'm still not exactly sure what all the ramifications are, from erasing the code via the handheld de-coder.
Can any technical minds dumb this down, for me ? :

CAUTION : Erasing the Diagnostic Trouble Codes may allow the code reader to delete not only the codes from the vehicle's on-board computer, but also "Freeze Frame" data and manufacturer enhanced data. Further, the I/M Readiness Monitor Status for all vehicle monitors is reset to Not Ready Not Complete status

I'm not a mechanic so I can't go that deep. What is the fault code you're getting?

The code is P0442, which translates as "small emissions leak"
I don't need to repair it, since this car does not require emission inspections.

One of the possible causes I found in a search, is a loose gas tank cap, but I made sure it was tight, and the engine light still persists,
so it may involve deeper mechanical work, which would be an unnecessary cost, since I don't need emission inspection.
Hence, me wanting to "Erase Code" to turn off the engine light

I'm just wondering, why even care about a code when you live in Florida and you don't have to fix it anyway?

If you lived in Virginia and had to do an annual inspection it would be a different story and would likely cost you a lot of money. California? You might be out several thousand because you'd be failing smog checks and might even have to sell or junk the car. Yep, I had that exact problem with an old BMW years ago.

Hell, I didn't read this until now but I must have missed an episode or 2-3 lol.

Anyway, Anne says hi too.
