Random NFL Thoughts

Happy for Pierce. He deserved it. His is a really great story from UDFA to foundational player on a Super Bowl team to a NFL head coach.

I remember when he left Washington and defected to NY --Skins fans absolutely trashed the guy. What a long strange trip ....

Yeah, and as it turns out his departure and Ryans were foreshadowing of what was really wrong with Snyder's philosophy. The few times we actually struck gold he never valued them and sought to replace them with Archulettas and Trotters who always wound up being downgrades.

And I think we never gave Simms a fair shot to be our returner.

The previous rumor was that the Bears were going to hire USC OC Kliff Kingsbury, a signal they would draft Caleb Williiams. Not so fast...

Doesn't mean they won't draft Caleb Williams, but seems less likely now.

I've read speculation that the interview with Kingsbury was all about getting info on Williams and that he may never have been a serious consideration for OC there, regardless of who Chicago drafts.

Would be a pretty smart way to get inside info. If that's the case, and they are now hiring someone else, seemingly signalling they may go forward with Justin Fields and not draft Williams - that would be somewhat alarming in regards to Williams. Lots of assumption in that, but it does make you wonder what Kingsbury shared...

Ryan Poles - "So, Mr. Kingsbury, if we hire you as OC here in Chicago, we assume you will want to draft Caleb #1 in April. Yes?"

Kingsbury - "Nope. Are you kidding? I want to keep Fields and draft an OT!"

Ryan Poles - "Thanks for your time. I think we are done here."

If Ron is hired as a DC does he get paid his last years pay with Washington as HC

From what I understand, the way it works with coaches, is that whatever he makes from Philly, would be deducted from the amount owed by Washing.

ie.... if Rivera's final year he's getting paid $6M and Philly hires him for $2M, then Wash would only owe him $4M

My guess (strictly a complete guess) would be that Washington might only be on the hook for the difference.

I hope Rivera does get a gig somewhere and recommits to the DC role. I think he's been a damn good one in the past. Whether he can muster the fire again, I don't know. But he's a good man and I hope he does get to continue coaching if that's something he wants.

The Tennessee Titans are working to finalize a deal with Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan as their next head coach, league sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Monday night.

so one of the top 3 washington is looking at looks to be out of the running now

I can understand him not wanting to go out with this as the last taste in his mouth.

Break out the vanilla ice cream if you have it.
