Random Commanders Thoughts

Agree HTTR , but given the longstanding whispers around this reporter and the obvious things that were going in Nashville, I would've had something in his contract about this, making it easy to fire him for cause. We had a drinking clause in Scot's contract that was manipulated and exploited by Bruce, who simply lied as usual), and it was used as a justification to can Scot.

I’m not aware of any of these details about their histories so I suspect we are looking at this through a different lens, even though we pretty much agree. I really doubt New England is looking for a reason to fire the coach who just got them to the Super Bowl, and I don’t see this hurting their brand or the NFL’s brand or finances in any significant way. NYT on the other hand is part of a dying legacy media that can’t really afford a hit to its credibility.

I will say, I don’t think it’s really fair that Rossini is suspended and most likely will be fired and Vrabel is going to basically get nothing.

I get that life’s not fair a then you die.

But it’s a double standard. And it’s unfortunate. Both of them were equally wrong. Only one is going to suffer the consequences.
I don’t know.

I can’t tell you that it’s not fair unless we had a situation where it was a male reporter and female coach and the same didn’t happen.

Vrabel is an asshole.

Rossini is an asshole.

Rossini needs to be impartial for her job.

Vrabel doesn’t.

Shitty situation. Might be a double standard but have no way of knowing.

Her being an NFL information broker and having an ~ahem~ ‘cozy’ relationship with a head coach is problematic.

I don’t believe that it has anything to do with gender inequality or double standards. If Jay Glazer was photographed holding hands at a resort with (fill in the blank) head coach the reaction would be the same.

I believe that, too. But society surprises me sometimes.

Meh. I'm not too bothered by Vrabel. I think that what he did isn't too bad. Russini on the other hand, will forever be tarnished as a scoop thot. She should have thought this out more. It literally doesn't matter what she does in the profession from here on.

She could have had a completely legitimate relationship with coach but it will forever look like she slept with him for a scoop and that will always follow her. That's pretty much the worst tag a female reporter can have. Probably set the whole female reporter industry back some.

That’s fine, but my point is that actions can be much more or less severe, depending on your line of work. If you’re on a plane and the flight attendant is drunk, that’s one thing, but if the pilot is drunk, it matters a whole lot more. Subjectively, they’ve both committed the same inappropriate offense, but you would expect the penalties for doing so to be very different.
I think it's inherently unfair that the female gets persecuted and the male get off Scott free. I see injustice in that. If you don't, that's fine. But I do.

It's MASSIVELY inappropriate for a HC to sleep with a reporter because you have no idea what the HC (or any coach) might tell them over pillow talk. Did he discuss possible trades? FA signings? Draft Board? Other confidential information?

Should he be fired? Probably not. Will she be fired and her reputation tarnished forever? Probably. Were they both equally to blame? Yes. Was it inappropriate for both of them? Yes.

Is one of them going to bear more of the brunt of it than the other? Also yes.

If the roles were reversed, and it was a female coach and a male reporter, I can pretty much guarantee the reaction would be the same for each person. It would be "OMG, how can a female HC sleep with a male reporter! Get her out of here, that's so unprofessional." and the male reporter would get either nothing, a slap on the wrist.

Now, Rossini should just absolutely be smarter than this, as while there is a double standard, she has to KNOW there is a double standard, and how if they are found out, it's going to blow back on her more. If she's really in love with the guy, and he loves her, then fine, both of them need to leave their spouses, and they can have an honest, open and public relationship, and that might be more accepted.

Many NFL HC (and other coach) contracts have personal conduct clauses that prohibit certain types of behavior, including this. No idea if his has one, but I think they all should. This is unprofessional in both directions and detracts from the organizations both parties represent.
I agree. And I agree that there should be something in the contract which prevents personal relationships with members of the media, cheerleaders, other staff members, etc.

This is a really, really bad look for Vrabel. And the Pats, and the NFL.

But I doubt much will happen to Vrabel. I think he should at least be suspended for a few games if it turns out he was having an affair with a reporter.

And I would say the same for literally any coach, regardless of team.

Back to the thread topic! 🤣

No. They would both be fired.

That's a bad example. Flight attendants are also responsible for passenger safety, and if one is drunk on the job and the plane crashes, the passengers would literally own the airline after the law suits. There might be other examples of what you are trying to demonstrate, but this is not one of them.

I bet that Vrabel and McCloughan aren't the only ones either. Some women do sleep their way to the top. I saw her give an interview one time about getting her start covering Sean Peyton, etc and it came off like she was willing to do anything to get info back then also

It's very possible. Though I'm not going to disparage her that way.

Im gonna have to side with HTTR on this one.

I get what you're saying and yes they would both be fired but you'd be hard pressed to find someone who doesn't think being a drunk pilot is worse than a drunk flight attendant.

One might be worse than the other but the consequences for both are going to be the same.

Fired with no opportunity to work in the industry again.

People are definitely bored as hell and the news is slow. All we are talking about is a reporter and a coach of another team which really has nothing to do with our team.

You know it is the off season

I’m not sure it’s disparaging. Though, if any of these marriages weren’t open and any of these rumors are true it’s beyond adults doing adult things and it’s scumbag behavior.

Vrabel shares that burden… if he’s not in an open relationship.

But if there is a pattern for Russini that is a problem. That isn’t disparaging. Journalistic integrity matters for reporters and to be quite frank she has hurt ALL female reporters in male sports with her way of doing things…

IF it’s true.

That’s the question here.

She blew up and made her name in DC. She covered the Skins. She was accused of the same thing when covering the Skins. I don't feel like this story doesn't fit in this thread. It's obviously going to be short lived here. Besides, we've been talking about the draft and free agency nonstop for months even when there is either no new significant story or there are clearly a bunch of fake stories about who teams are interested in. It honestly feels good to take a minor break on something else before we hit this full time draft stretch again.

Dlts20 May I offer you something to drink? A wine, a cocktail, an espresso? ... I make it myself, right back there, with a little lemon twist. It’s good. Just try it!

The reason why Russini gets punished and Vrabel doesn't is because of how replaceable they are at their jobs. There is a very limited pool of head coaches who are good at their jobs. Reporters are a dime a dozen. Good ones? Probably not so many. But the difference between coaches good at their jobs and reporters good at their jobs is worlds apart; the value/stability of their contracts reflect it.

Russini's situation would be comparable to a male reporter caught in a compromising position a female coach. I don't know enough about other sports to compare how valued a women's sports coach is vs. an NFL head coach, but considering the NFL reigning supreme over all other sports in America, I doubt even that would be comparable.

Like I said, something about her comments regarding Doubs choosing Maye over Daniels just didn't sit right with me and I imm posted about it on here when it happened as it seemed like her own opinion since he never said that. Now I'm reading what some other fans are saying and it makes me wonder did she possibly even hurt us in a backdoor way in them.

Here are some comments followed by a couple of vidz from her. She's always been for the streets. I know women like her. She's insecure so she throws herself at men and it's especially satisfying when they are married:

“No wonder she was pushing the AJ Brown to the Pats so hard the last few months.” another fan conspired.

”We need @ProFootballTalk to address this immediately. This level of media to locker room cannot be fair. Russini is meeting with teams weekly and most certainly tipping off the Patriots! Makes you wonder how legitimate their success was last season.” another fan wrote.

I mean… this is pretty awful of her to say. Any man or woman that says that about their spouse on national TV has some issues

I personally feel like she's trying to act like she's resigning because of the narrative when in reality she's doing it because she knows that more was going to be exposed. I saw that clown, Michelle Beadle coming to her defense and trashing people.
