Meh. I'm not too bothered by Vrabel. I think that what he did isn't too bad. Russini on the other hand, will forever be tarnished as a scoop thot. She should have thought this out more. It literally doesn't matter what she does in the profession from here on.
She could have had a completely legitimate relationship with coach but it will forever look like she slept with him for a scoop and that will always follow her. That's pretty much the worst tag a female reporter can have. Probably set the whole female reporter industry back some.
That’s fine, but my point is that actions can be much more or less severe, depending on your line of work. If you’re on a plane and the flight attendant is drunk, that’s one thing, but if the pilot is drunk, it matters a whole lot more. Subjectively, they’ve both committed the same inappropriate offense, but you would expect the penalties for doing so to be very different.
I think it's inherently unfair that the female gets persecuted and the male get off Scott free. I see injustice in that. If you don't, that's fine. But I do.
It's MASSIVELY inappropriate for a HC to sleep with a reporter because you have no idea what the HC (or any coach) might tell them over pillow talk. Did he discuss possible trades? FA signings? Draft Board? Other confidential information?
Should he be fired? Probably not. Will she be fired and her reputation tarnished forever? Probably. Were they both equally to blame? Yes. Was it inappropriate for both of them? Yes.
Is one of them going to bear more of the brunt of it than the other? Also yes.
If the roles were reversed, and it was a female coach and a male reporter, I can pretty much guarantee the reaction would be the same for each person. It would be "OMG, how can a female HC sleep with a male reporter! Get her out of here, that's so unprofessional." and the male reporter would get either nothing, a slap on the wrist.
Now, Rossini should just absolutely be smarter than this, as while there is a double standard, she has to KNOW there is a double standard, and how if they are found out, it's going to blow back on her more. If she's really in love with the guy, and he loves her, then fine, both of them need to leave their spouses, and they can have an honest, open and public relationship, and that might be more accepted.
Many NFL HC (and other coach) contracts have personal conduct clauses that prohibit certain types of behavior, including this. No idea if his has one, but I think they all should. This is unprofessional in both directions and detracts from the organizations both parties represent.
I agree. And I agree that there should be something in the contract which prevents personal relationships with members of the media, cheerleaders, other staff members, etc.
This is a really, really bad look for Vrabel. And the Pats, and the NFL.
But I doubt much will happen to Vrabel. I think he should at least be suspended for a few games if it turns out he was having an affair with a reporter.
And I would say the same for literally any coach, regardless of team.
